Thanks a lot guys!

Pretty much the question is the subject line, SSA says it will take four weeks to get the number, can we apply without it? What do we put in that space if we can.
Also the A# is the number on the I-94?

Ah yeah, I remember the VJ guild. We ended up naming it Notice of Action I can't convince myself to start up again until maybe the next expansion. Been playing a lot of Warcraft 3 and Starcraft lately though!

OK, thanks, we'll put that.

Anybody have an idea?

On the example form they fill in the portion about Date of Intended Departure and Expected Length of Trip. Is this necessary to receive the Advance Parole? We don't actually have specific plans to leave the country, but it would be nice to have it just in case the AoS takes longer than expected or something comes up.

Wondering why someone filing with Thailand seems to be an expert on the situation in another part of the world.
That said, Tik brought pictures of our engagement party (from Thailand) to our interview, but it wasn't really any help or hindrance, we were pretty much approved before they even talked to her. Hopefully more people that have experiences similar to your particular situation (filing at the same consulate as you) will have some good advice for you.

Tik and I did the whole thing by ourselves and she'll be here Wednesday. Took about eight or nine months, an average amount of time from what I can tell. If you're really bad with paperwork or have a complicated case maybe consider it, but I'm definitely happy we did it ourselves.

Is this completed form inside of the envelope that we're not supposed to open?
Is this completed form inside of the envelope that we're not supposed to open?Nevermind, think I just got the answer from the FAQ, sorry.

I just got a Treo with a data plan and it costs $30 a month for that. Just use MSN or AIM and when I want to call her I get a $5 calling card and can get like three hours of talk time out of that (which lasts us over a month easily). We don't have a lot of money to throw around, $150 a month? That's half a car payment.
What mobile plans do you guys have in the US? International text messaging is adding about 100-150USD a month to my mobile bill with SprintPCS. The long distance is only .13 a minute (I think this is pretty damn cheap), but they charge .25 outgoing and .20 incoming international text. Most plans I look at do not have any international pricing plans. Any of you have international friendly plans with any other cell carriers?Cheers,
Alvin

Hmmm, OK, guess I'll try to figure out which is the best route. Thanks again.

Will it really be a problem if we get married and then get her SSN after? Seems easier, but if DHS will have some beef about it later...

I talked to the security guard at the social security office (didn't want to wait on line to ask one question, there were tons of people there), and she said Tik has to bring her passport and green card to get a social security number. Well of course she can't get a green card until after AOS, after we're married, which requires a social security number from what I understand.
So questions:
1. Do you need a SS# to get a marriage license? Any New York specific information would be great, but if you're from somewhere else please help too.
2. On the application she gave me it says if you're not a US citizen you must bring "US immigration document and foreign passport." Is a K-1 visa in the passport counted as the US immigration document?
The security guard told you wrong... A person with K-1 status is eligible for SSN for the first 76 days after arrival in the USA.
Yes a K-1 & the I-94 are the immigration documents needed to apply based on K-1 status
Awesome, but if at all possible we'll try to get married first and then just get the SSN with her new married name.
-
Thanks, that helps a lot. I'll check with the office here to see if we can do the same thing.
-
Thanks. She already has her K-1 Visa so right now we just need to do the translation of her birth certificate for AOS. That's USCIS, right?
To help out the OP having the documents in Thai seemed to work fine for this consulate.

By certified what exactly does that mean? If Tik is completely fluent in English and Thai couldn't she swear that the translation is correct if she did it herself?
I'm sure this is probably not the case, so how do you know if someone is certified? What institution must certify them to translate?

I just beat it yesterday after 45 hours of playing! Only like 75% done too, but now I can take a break since the storyline is pretty much done with

I've read here that the embassy will need another letter of our intention to get married at the interview. However, our packet 3 didn't mention this at all from what I could see. Do we need the letter of intent? Maybe I missed something

Hey guys, long time, no post.
Tik's interview was scheduled for what seems like a very late date in relation to when we sent out our packet 3 response (nearly three months), so we were wondering if there's any way to call the embassy to attempt to receive a better date. Shot in the dark I'm sure, but thought we would try because it's really inconvenient for us, she wanted to move here in early June, but the interview isn't until May27th so that puts us in a bind as far as booking tickets now. Any info on cases where people have attempted, or possibly even succeeded in this would be helpful. Thank you.

Thanks a lot man, hopefully it all goes well and we will be done with all of this! It really is a journey!

I understand that there is absolutely no requirement for me to attend the interview in Bangkok with my fiancee...yet every review of th Bangkok Embassy, with almost no exception, the sponsor and immigrant went to the interview together.
Will this hurt our case in any way? There's absolutely no way for me to attend the interview with her. I was in Thailand with her most recently for three weeks in February and two weeks in August. We have a pretty good amount of photos and documentation to prove this. All of our paperwork is in order concerning police reports, medical exams, support, etc.
Is there anyone here who has experience with the immigrant going to the Bangkok Embassy without the sponsor? If there is please share your story with me, I'm worried that we're at an automatic handicap because of the fact that she'll attend the interview alone.

Thanks a lot. I've been looking into it more and found a few flights a little cheaper. Just don't know when i have to buy them by to get the price.

Hey mate, glad everything is working for you. Tik is also nearing the end of this part of the process (sending in packet 3 the day after tomorrow). I was wondering if you bought a one way ticket from Thailand to the US and if you did, how much did it cost. Everything I find costs almost as much as a round trip. The best deal I found to JFK was $882 and she would have a layover in Abu Dhabi. So what's the plan for you?
to early?
