  1. I had my interview on June 11/08 (at the West Palm Beach, Fl office) and my oath ceremony is on June 23rd...total of 12 days between them. Got the letter yesterday

After my interviewer told me I'd passed he said to expect a letter within a couple of weeks with my oath date. I'd heard from someone who'd had her interview here earlier this year that she had her oath ceremony 3 weeks later.

So...long story short...my husband travels for work and because I know we'll be here for July 4th I asked if my interview could be scheduled then. He didn't know if they'd be doing a 'special ceremony' on the 4th (normallly closed for holidays) but put a request on my file asking for that date or the day before or following the holiday, and the reason for my request.

Doubt if my husband will be able to be with me on the 23rd for the end of our visa journey....breaks my heart. He, above anyone, should be there beside me.

  2. I don't believe you need a valid passport to naturalize.

But they do want to verify that your dates of travel are accurately accounted for, to be sure you meet the continuous residence and physical presence requirements. So they may want to see all passports that cover the time since you've been a permanent resident. Even if a passport is expired, it still may be useful as evidence of travel (or lack of travel).

My interview is next week. My appointment letter asks for my passport "and/or any other documents you used with any entries into the United States." My letter doesn't specifically say a 'current' passport, nor does it specify any time period.

I'll be bringing my current passport, along with my old passport that expired in 2003 which has my original fiance visa along with some entries from when we took vacations out of the US.

  3. I mailed my N400 the day before you and it was delivered (according to the post office) on 30 July. (Weekend in between). I included the old fee.

I read the instructions you quoted above as meaning that as long as the post mark is before 30 July the old fee is payable, but the date it was received at the Service Centre will be the priority date they honour, rather than the date they open the packet, cash the cheque and get a moving with the application.

I may be wrong, of course, but i feel fairly confident we'll be OK

We couldn't possibly know what date our packet would be officially received at the SC, so how could we know which fee to enclose if it relied on date of receipt instead of postmark. I feel confdient that it will be the postmark which is relevant to which fee is payable.

Thanks "annatenna". Hope you are correct! After 11 yrs of dealing with the INS I guess I just expect problems  ....But one thing I have learned...it gets done eventually!

  4. The USCIS Update pdf file dated July 23rd regarding the new filing fees says:

"WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reminds its customers that the agency’s new fee schedule is effective on Monday, July 30, 2007. Applications or petitions postmarked or otherwise filed on or after that date must include the new fee."

But thier website (link below) now says this :

"USCIS will honor the actual date that an application was received in our mailroom; this date will be indicated on the receipt (in the Received Date box) when Form I-797, Notice of Action, is mailed."

Anyone know for sure which it is?? Is my app going to be rejected because I sent the old fee?????

I mailed my N-400 on July 27th with the old fee, but it wasn't officially delivered until the 31st...according to my USPS delivery confirmation

  5. Has anyone used a different "mailing address" from their "permanent address" on thier immigration forms? If so, did you experience any problems doing so?

We have 2 addresses...our permanent address in FL and a second/long term but temporary one in GA. I am back and forth between the two.

I recently filed my N-400 to the TX Service Center and listed our FL address as the permanent one (which is what they have on file for me) and the GA address as our "mailing address".

Just wondering if it may cause some mix ups!
