A similiar situation just happened to us. We filled out our AR11 in January and even at the interview our IO told us the address was changed, but we got the Welcome Letter at our old address and then sure enough last week the Green Card arrived at the old address. Chances are that your card will be mailed to the old address.

Keep an eye out for the email saying 'approval notice sent' for your 485. About 6 days later your GC will arrive. It does not come in an envelope with the USCIS return address on it.

When I called they said that since our case (and yours) had been approved, they couldnt change the address. So I'd keep an eye on that old address for your GC soon.

So Lisa got her Green Card in the mail today! It was waiting for us at our old apartment, so it probably came earlier this week, but now its ours

I want to thank everyone who has answered a question for us or wished us well in the last 8 months when we first started this journey. This website is by far the greatest community I've come across on the internet, and I thank you all for helping us. Without VJ, who knows how this would've gone.

I'll still be around to help others on their journey like you guys have helped me, and I'll see some of you in the other forums!

Well I just got back from our old place and sure enough it was our welcome letter. Green Card should arrive within 3 weeks, and I'll bet to our old address

Just a heads up...

We moved on Jan 1 and immediately filed AR-11 and changed our address on all our case #'s online and confirmed over the phone. Everything was fine, and even our IO told us that our new address was on our file.

So imagine my surprise today when my old neighbor calls me to let me know my wife has a letter from USCIS at our old apartment! This would explain why yesterday I recieved our I130 approval notice at our new place, but no I485 notice. I'll bet you guys that letter at our old plae is our 485 approval notice! I'll find out tonight when I go over there.

So I called USCIS and explained that we got confirmation #'s for our change of addresses and AR-11 and that our IO said it was changed, and they pretty much told me sometimes it takes longer to change the address. Of course, why the 130 was changed immediately and the 485 still isnt even though our IO said it was is beyond me.

She told me in so many words that my wife's Green Card will probably be mailed to the old address and if it isnt there in 30 days to call them. They cant change the address on an approved case. So now I have to time out the green card mailed online update with when it will get to my old place and hope to God my neighbor gets it and lets me know

Sorry, just had to vent. I haaaaaaaaate the USCIS help line.

We did not use a lawyer, and VJ is hands down the greatest community I have ever been a part of on the internet. This place was there for me every step of the way whenever I had a question big or small. Not all of us are suited to go through AOS on our own though, and those people should consider a lawyer as an option.

That being said, no one here is a lawyer and making the decision whether to hire one or not can only be made by you. If you do get a lawyer, do your research on them and make sure its the right one for you. I have read too many horror stories about lawyers on this site. I considered hiring one as well and consulted with a few but at the end of the day, I felt confident enough in myself to do it on my own.

My wife's birth certificate was in French and she translated it herself and USCIS never had a problem with that. They SHOULD have it in your file, but its better to be safe than sorry.

Does he have anything that showed ties to Canada, showing that he did not intend to abondon his life there? Deed to a house, lease, letter from employer there, etc? Anything that shows he intended to go back definitely helps.

Be sure to bring pictures of your relationship over the year. If you visited him in Canada, pictures from there and the US too. Wedding and honeymoon pictures.

Proof of comingling of finances. Lease with both your names on it, utility bills with both names, insurance, phone bills, credit cards, bank accounts, etc. They will ask for this kind of stuff. We brought all of that, plus wedding cards and Christmas cards addressed to Mr & Mrs ***** at our address.

We also brought plane and bus tickets from visits and I brought some hotel receipts but since they only have 1 name on them, it doesnt do too much good.

You can also get friends and family (maybe even your super or landlord if they know you) to write affidavits confirming that they know you and that you guys are in fact in love, etc. We didnt do that, but its always a good idea.

Make sure to bring everything they ask you to bring on the interview letter as far as paystubs and taxes go.

My wife came in from Montreal and she did not get an I94. Canadian citizens do not necessarily get I94's when they enter the US because it is a continuous land border (and hell, its Canada). In fact, she never got an I94 during any trip to see me.

Before filing AOS, I asked a few people here who had the same situation, and they said it is not a big deal. We filed without an I94 and have encountered no problems to this date (Even our interview officer did not ask where it was). I believe it is known at USCIS that Canadians do not always recieve them at the border.

If you want, do what we did. Whenever there was a question on any of the applications about I94 # or I94 expiration, etc. we wrote "see attachment" and then on a serperate sheet of paper typed the question #, my wife's name, and her explanation that she did not get an I94 because she is Canadian. She swore that what she wrote was true and attached a copy of her bus ticket and passport.

I am not the first to do this, and like I said, so far so good.

My wife translated hers (1 piece of paper for the front, another for the back) and then typed out the statement on a seperate sheet of paper. We did not get it notarized and never had a problem.

The IO at my interview didnt ask for my passport. She asked for my drivers license as my ID and then my birth certificate for proof of citizenship.

No shrinking required. 4 passport pages can easily fit on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of copy paper.

Canadia - Make sure to copy EVERY page from your passport, not just the ones with stamps.

I opened up my passport and copied it. So theres 2 pages on each sheet, like an open book. That is completely acceptable. As long as you give them copies of every page, it doesnt matter how you do it. And if it does, I'd love to see where USCIS says so.

Our marriage certificate was the only thing we sent in that was a certified copy, and we bought that for $4 from the city clerk. everything else was and should be photocopies. Never ever send in originals of your birth certificate, passport or any evidence. All that should be taken with you to your interview (if you have one). Good luck!

Yea I would hold off on telling them anything unless they ask. On the bright side, you have paystubs thru January and your 2007 W2. The only thing you dont have that they may ask for is a letter from your employer. My IO asked for either paystubs or a letter.

Perhaps since by the time of your interview you'll only be missing 1 paycheck, it wont be that noticeable. At the same time, I agree that you should show evidence of a savings account if you have one. Good luck.

I'd say just call them after a few days and confirm, and if they say they cant tell you, hang up and call again. That's probably what we should've done.

Our interview was at 2PM at the Garden City, Long Island office. We got there at 1 and waited in the big waiting room until they called our name at 1:45 to go upstairs. We then waited in the smaller waiting section from 1:45 until 3:15. Boy did that SUCK. Finally, at 3:15, a lovely Hispanic woman called our names and off we went to her office.

I immediately liked her. She just gave off a vibe that she was one of the IO's that you'd want. We got to her office, she swore us in, and then asked for Lisa's passport and my (I'm the USC) driver's license. She confirmed with Lisa that she took the bus during her last trip to the US, and asked when that was and if she had left the country since. She verified our new address, and asked how we met. She asked if this was our first marriage, and then asked to see our papers showing joint assets. We gave her our bank statements, lease, phone bill, etc. This whole time she was flipping our file super fast. She asked to see both our birth certificates and my paystubs and letter from my employer.

We told her we brought pictures and she was very excited and asked to see them all. She just loves pictures. She looked at all our wedding photos, other various photos and stuff from our Honeymoon (we went to Disney). After that we pretty much just talked about our trip to Disney and our dog, because she had pictures of dogs all over her office. She asked us to select a picture for our file, and then told us that everything seemed to be in order and our file looked good. She asked Lisa the list of yes/no questions.

She wrote in Lisa's passport whatever it is they write (that Lisa was here at the interview, etc) and then said we would recieve a decision in the mail in about 2 weeks. She said she just had to go over the file one more time. I asked if Lisa could still travel with her Advanced Parole and she asked if we could wait a month for the Green Card. She did not take Lisa's AP or her EAD card.

And that's it I am under the impression that unless they notice something that raises a flag, we'll be approved

Our IO was VERY nice and very personable. We immediately felt relaxed and it was like just talking to someone new about our relationship. I'm very happy we came so prepared, and I'm glad we brought so many pictures.

Now we just sit and wait to get that letter!

I found the guides on this site to be very helpful. However, I seperated each application (485, 765, etc) with binder clips so they were all seperate, and any papers that I was sending (copies of passport, copies of birth certificates, etc) I put holes in the top with a hole puncher so they lined up with my application.

I like to think that if I made their job a little easier, my file would be handled nicely. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but I'd rather make it nice and in order than just stuff it all in an envelope and let them sort it out.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I am bringing photocopies of everything and have them all arranged in folders. I will be seperating the most important stuff from the rest so its easy to hand over. Oh yea we also have our health insurance cards so we'll be bringing those.

Only thing I'm worried about is that when we moved, Lisa hadn't gotten her SS# yet, so the utility bills are only in my name. All the wedding cards are addressed to either our old address (which USCIS had on file) or my father's house (grandparents...what can I say heh), but we saved all the envelopes (mostly because we're sentimental geeks). We have yet to get any cards at our new address, only been here a month.
