  1. So I just received an email from CRIS saying that my AOS application has been approved!!! so happy and excited!

We're actually moving tomorrow, I was going to submit the change of address form tomorrow (before I got the approval email) after closing because I didn't want to jinx anything (yes, stupid I know).

Anyways after I got the email I called the misinformation line immediately and explained that I'd got the email and the moving etc.... and the lady said just change your address online and submit form AR-11 (isn't that the same as changing online??) and I made sure that she was certain that my green card would be sent to our new house. I'll fill out I-865 today as well and send that off, then I'm off to the post office to get our mail forwarded (I know they might not forward mail from USCIS). Is there anything I'm missing? I just want to be sure because I'd hate to have it delivered to our old address after all this.

I was in the same exact situation. We changed our address online and received the GC in the mail a week later at the new address. The change is instant as the database is updated nightly.

  2. The best is wait until you have green card. But if you really need to change, make sure and change address with post office, too. Immigration all the time made mistakes sending on old address even though if we change.

Example my ante, she change address with immigration, and they sent her green card again on old address, thanks god she change address with post office - in general post office will forward you if any mail comes on old address to new address (you never know).

Example my friend, after an interview he changed address with immigration, and they sent again on old address GC, and green card return to immigration since no one didn't take mail, and when he call them and they told him, call after 60 days, and he supposte to get GC on August 2007, and still waiting for one.

I don't know is this will help, I mean we all have different experience but you never know

Thanks Saratara. My concern is I read somewhere that when INS mails documents they write "don't forward, return to INS" so I was concerend that even when I turn in the form for a change of address USPS may not forward INS mail to my new address.

Thanks. If I give the interviewer the new address will there be a need to present new affidavit based on the new employment in the city which we are moving to?

If we inform the officer of the intended change of address which will be effective 4 days after the interview (interview on Thursday, we are moving to new city on Saturday and starting a new job on Monday) will the officer cancel the interview and transfer it to the INS office in the new city? Should we change address after the interview by calling? Please help.

  3. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the thread. I have my interview soon, so really trying to make sure I have everything right. Do I need to get all the original documents for the sponsor. As in the do I need original Tax Returns, W-2s, Paystubs etc. from the co-sponsor of my affidavit or support? I submitted copies with my application, Do they need to see the originals? Thanks.

Great thread. One question that I haven't found the answer for which is if the petitioner is a naturalized US Citizen will he/she still have to bring their foreign born birth certificate to the interview or will the naturalization certificate and a US passport suffice?

  4. Thanks for the advice folks, it _does_ help. Sometimes I just feel rudderless in this ridiculous process. We've got an infopass appointment for Thursday and an appointment with a laywer on Tuesday.

Ive given up on calling USCIS for anything anymore. Those have got to be the most useless people on the face of the earth. I cannot count the number of times Ive called them about our AOS alone and every single time I get a different answer. Ive been transferred up the ladder until I got nosebleeds and those supposedly superior people either wouldnt help or couldnt help. Not that my local office is much better. I feel they are partially to blame for alot of the stumbling blocks we've had with AOS, due to their horribly bad advice and information.

I know of a similar case and was corrected at the infopass appointment right there and then. Good luck and good job that you have contacted a lawyer

  5. Since its been over 30days after interview, I'd make an infopass to find out what is going on. By now if they needed more information, they should have sent out a letter.

Make infopass appointment right away. Be sure to tell them that you were not told of the exact reasons why you were not approved at the interview and demand answer. If there is a name check they will tell you otherwise they will need to approve your application.

  8. Hello all good people on this website

Our AOS interview is coming up in 2 weeks and we are planning to move to another part of the state (same state different city) one week after because of change in employment (different employer, new job). What should we do?

    1. Tell the INS officer of the planned change in address during the interview?

    2. Change the address after the interview on-line and via the form through regular mail?

    3. Do nothing and hope the GC will arrive at the new address as we will fill out the USPS form to have all mail forwarded to new address.

Your help/recommendations/advise will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks much

For question # 4 I sent the vaccination worksheet which the doctor gave to my fiancee. The consular officer overseas asked my fiancee to send this worksheet (which was filled and signed by a "panel physician" along with AOS application in place of the supplemental form). You should be OK sending what the doctor gave you if you had done your medical exam overseas.
