First of all, I thank God that VisaJourney exists. I dont think I could have made any better choices and its only because of ALL the helpful people that I have come across here.
As a Canadian, I did want to say that I was very nervous with my overstay and heard many stories that made me doubt a positive outcome at the US embassy, so I figured my story may help someone else out!
Well, it was pretty standard- I guess the same reviews that most people gave- accept she asked about my extended overstay in the US. I told her that I had a baby there, blah blah blah. SHe pretty much gave me a slap on the wrist and said that although she could not do anything about the fact that I overstayed, she recommended that I tell all the people I know to NEVER stay more than 6 months.... then she welcomed me to America.
The crazy thing was that I had so much proof of information- I mean a couple of pounds worth of stuff and all she asked me was for proof of my name (discrepency on my birth certificate) and that was it!
Anyway, just the jist in this post but if anyone has any questions, please feel free to IM me.
Take care and good luck to everyone.

Hey Vjer's,
So I have an interview third week of May and wanted to ask what are we supposed to do if our joint sponsor, because he has a med-sized business and a wedding the same month (pretty hectic to say the least), has filed an extension. My husband has requested his 2008 transcripts so we should be good there but we need the joint sponsors tax return right???
So does that screw us up in the interview? Should we reschedule???
THis has been going on for soooo long, I am so tired of this- I am sure you all understand!!!!!!!
Any responses would be appreciated.

Hey, I do think that you need to submit the most recent tax return from your SO as well as a sponsor (if applicable). This is just based on research since I wil, too, have an interview soon.
Good luck

thanks for the warm welcome Trailmix,
Good luck to all

Thanks you guys. So yes, our I-864 was signed in Feb and was completed and approved by the NVC then (in Feb).
I guess I am trying to prepare for the "unexpected". Just want to cross my T's and dot my i's.
Thanks,
Peace

Hey VJ,
I completed the NVC process the 3rd week in February. I assume that my interview date will not be until after 4/15/09 so here is my question. When going to the interview are we required to provide 2008 tax transcripts or what? I read a post and it had me thinking. My husband has already filed, however, we have a co-sponsor, our friend, and since he is self employed, I wonder if they automatically have an extension or if there is something else that they provide? I dont want to inconvenience our friend because I assume there is a lot of paper work involved for filing business taxes-
any advice appreciated.

Thanks. I guess I must prepare for the interview!! Very apprehensive but I gotta do it!
Good luck and/or contrats to everyone else, I have a lot to read. IF anyone can direct me to some helpful posts, I would appreciate it!
Peace
-
Thank God!!!
We mailed our package, both the i-864 and ds-230 on February 12 and in one week, our package was approved.
I am very scared about the interview because I know that nothing is guaranteed and one decision could easily split my family apart longer than we have already been and make it that much harder.
Anyway, I wanted to share with VJ because I can't explain how much I appreciate this site!
Peace and good luck to everyone.

Hi to all,
I guess I should post here! I am trying to find out the average time it takes for an applicant on the CR1 process to obtain an interview in Montreal. I thought it took about two months, can anyone help me out please???!
Thanks,
Ohmy

Correct, although the day I left the US for the last time, it took a lot of effort for me to get into Canada because my passport expired two days after having my son!!!
But essentially, emt103 is right
-
As always, emt103, Thanks
Actually I had an overstay 4 years ago as well but only of one month or so!
So the aggregate part would not apply to me????
You are correct the answer is "no." The key word is "unlawfully present." As long as each stay was the correct amount of time and you only had ONE overstay, you are fine. You will have to explain though on Question 32 about having been denied entry.
-
Hey Everyone,
Here is a quick history, I stayed in the US when I had my child for a total of 10 months continously, I tried to go back and they denied me. So, basically, I overstayed roughly 4 months.
On page 4 of the DS-230, question H asks: An Alien who ...was previously unlawfully present in the US for more than 180 days but less than a year .... OR an aggregate of one year.
So here is the thing, before the last stay, I was in Toronto for Two weeks, but I was in the US for the most part of the last two years. and in the last 10 years, I was there A LOT!!!!
Its a YES or NO question, I just want to know if I am understanding the question CORRECTLY.-
I think the answer is NO, can I please get some help with this.
I am probably making it more difficult but I am sure you all understand
Thanks in advance

Thank you all.
Trailmix, I dont have a problem listing all my listing all my schools BUT I went to 4 different high schools- one twice- so it is a little crazy going back so many years ago and getting the dates!!! My mind is spinning too.
Carlawarla, if I am not mistaken, they don't ask for the EXACT days- if so I would really be screwd!
-
I called the NVC and I just want to verify with other Canadians,
On question 23, it asks to list ALL EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS ATTENDED! I would think this question meant all post secondary or at the most, high school- did any of you go back to your elementary days????????? This is what two NVC men told me to do!!!! I just find this question and Qu. 25- list all previous visits/residence in the US the reason why it has taken me a month long to complete this form.
I remember more and more but then I feel like there will be a discrepency with the dates!
What do I do??????????
Please, anyone help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Good luck fellow VJer

congrats, we are both November filers!! I will be definitely following Lotto's guide.
Only problem I have experienced was getting the INVOICE # (IIN) to pay the AOS ad IV bill. I have tried at least 15 times. So good luck!
-
This may not help, but I was travelling from the US back to Canada with an expired passport and since I am a CDN citizen, I was able to enter back into the country. I would suggest you be there a few hours before.
Hopefully that helps!
