I am married to an iranian citizen who lives in canada. He is a a permanent resident of canada. How does the NVC choose a consulate -- > by their residence or by there citizenship/nationality? or do we choose where the interview takes place?

Here is the senario:

He got a temporary visa to come to the states to visit in the summer. If we get married, just have a short ceremony at the clerk office, get the marriage license, and then he'll go back to his country and we'll start the visa process untill he is approved to be here permanently and then we'll have our wedding, will this work or will USCIS have problems with that? Are there any ristrictions on his visitor visa that prevents him from getting married while he is over here? I could not find anything online.

After Marriage, would it better for him to apply for H-1 (work Visa) or K-3 to come to the states?

He was given a job offer and they are going to help him come with an H-1. Then, I think once he is here, we can work on getting his green card. Is that a better option or faster tracker?

Is it illegal to copy my American passport in color? Just a precaution before I send it in. I scanned it and I want to print it in color so it looks good for them.

Up until today i would have said Ankara just because they handle so many Iranian applicants. If your SO speaks english well i do not see that either would be a problem. I think they only have a translater at AbuDhabi periodically.

But after the experience the past two weeks my rating of Ankara has dropped. They have absolutely no consideration for the fact that Iranian applicants must travel to Turkey and wait for them. My SO went Oct 1 to pick up his visa, his number was on the website as being ready, he has waited 10 days and now they have finally sent his passport back today so he will receive it tomorrow or Saturday but we don't know if it is with the visa or without.

In my mind the biggest concern would be the expenses to travel to and stay at each place while waiting for interview, medical, visa, etc.

Hey....thanks for the tip, that's horrible that they made him wait so long. I think that being from Iran, our cases are always doing to be delay more than they have to be.

So when he went to ankara, were you with him? My fiance reads and writes in English well but his speaking skills need practise. Can we request for a translator just in case?

I have read all the message postings regarding the different embassies. I am still trying to decide where to have my fiancé go for the interview, any suggestions? I looked at the Ankara website which has a good section and info for Iranian applicants but the wait time is 9 weeks to get an interview, and Abu Dhabi does not have any update info. What would be the pro’s and con’s for Iranian applicants for these two places?

I also was looking at my certificate of naturalization, and we have two A numbers, but I was told that the A number is an eight digit number that they want in the I-129F. The other A number is a seven digit number which refers to the certificate number. I would put down the eight digit number and in your packet you will already include a copy of your certificate with both numbers so do not worry...

The best thing would be to inform them that a parent has passed...so I would put deceased.

I think if you can include anything that would show you have gone out of your way and translated the document (if not in English), then it is good to have and send with your I-129F. You can also wait and save it for your interview.

I became a US citizen in 2000, so I was naturalized thought my parents, because they first applied and once they became US citizens, I was 18yrs and younger, so I became naturalized through them.

Here is what it says in the I-129instructions:

3. What Documents Do You Need to Show That YouAre a U.S. Citizen?

A. If you were born in the United States, give USCIS acopy, front and back, of your birth certificate.

B. If you were naturalized, give USCIS a copy, front andback, of your original Certificate of Naturalization. (True for ME)

C. If you were born outside the United States and you area U.S. citizen through your parents, give USCIS: (True as well)

Which one am I?? I am so confused.

1. Your original Certificate of Citizenship, or

2. Your Form FS-240 (Report of Birth Abroad of aUnited States Citizen).

D. In place of any of the above, you may give USCIS acopy of your valid, unexpired U.S. passport issued witha validity period of at least five years. You mustsubmit copies of all pages in the passport. (Also an option but will take more time to submit application, passport not yet renewed)

Also in the I-129F itself, it asked ::::

10. My citizenship was acquired through (check one)

If "Yes," give certificate number, date and place it was issued.

Birth in the U.S. --> ( no )

Naturalization --> (yes, I was naturalized)

Give number of certificate, date and place it was issued.

Parents --> (yes, our case number and naturalization is due to my dad's naturalization)

Have you obtained a certificate of citizenship in your name? --> (yes)

Do I check both and answer this question???? Do both apply to me?? Thanks for all your suggestions.

I have not submitted initial I-129F yet...I don't have a timeline yet, but I will update as soon as I do.

If this is for the I-129F package, only include a few emails no more than 5, and they don't need translations, USCIS is more concerned with evidence proving you have been together sometime in the past 2 years.

Communications info like Email, chat, phone records should be brought to the visa interview the Consular officer is concerned with continued relationship.

This is wrong.

Everything you send with the I-129F must be in english or accompanied with an english translation and the appropriate statement regarding the translator's abilities.

You do not need emails and chat records for the I-129F, so in my opinion keep them for the interview.

most likly it's turkey that I will be going to...so I would probably just include a screen shot of the timeline of dates that we chatted but keep the transcripts for the interview.

I am putting my inital packet together and I want to include our online message chats which comes to 100 pages and they are all in farsi....Should I translate everything (its alot!!) or can I just send in a couple scripts?

just a word of encourgement. Make sure you have everything and then triple check it. My fiance's english is fairly good but I still found errors on his forms and we spent about 2 hours online filling out the papers together. I sent copies of random selections of all our online chats, yahoo lets u save them, photos of us in sweden, etc.

I wrote his letter of intent for hiim and emailed it. He wrote it out by hand in his own words in english and signed it. I found this to be better because he is insecure about his english abilities. He was very proud when he did the entire interview in english.

Since he had to mail everything to me for me to UPS to Ankara I made sure all the blanks were filled, even the ones that were N/a

And was he approved at the interview??

I think our problem is going to be his military service. Because we have to list his occupation in the last 5 years and he had the mandatory 2 yr duty service working in an office in tehran. What are your thoughts?

Because there is no US Consulate in Iran, we have the option of going to Ankara, Turkey or Abu Dabi, UAE.

Which should we choose? Is there anyone that went to those places that could help us choose which on is better ( that would have advantages vs. disadvantages).

I'm getting ready to send in my K-1 fiance petition. I told my fiance to write a letter describing how we meet and some background to our relationship. His English skills are very limited, so would it be better that he write the letter in his languange and them I can translate it for him? But it looks like every document that is in another language has to be offically translated i.e. it needs to be certified. Would it be better to have him write it in his language and certify it or take my chance and just submit one copy from him (the English version that I would help him translate).?
