Thanks for the advice and support everyone
I'll be seeing my doctor as soon as I can this week to get a note saying all is well. Fingers crossed that it does the trick.

I don't think I could pass them off as anything other than self-inflicted, unless I happened to crash my car into a knife factory
I haven't even seen my doctor in years, so I don't see how a note from him really proves anything. I'm sure the conversation will be great: "Hey, I used to self harm when I was 16, but now I don't, so can I have a note to prove it?".
Still, if there's one thing I've learnt from this visa business it's how to jump through hoops.

Hmm, I'd need to do that even though it was a short-term thing years ago that didn't require medical attention? To be honest I didn't even think about any of this until I saw it on the form.
That sucks.

I received package 3 in the mail a few days ago, and the form about the medical exam has me a little bit worried. When I was a teenager I cut myself on my legs and arms, and I have some pretty big scars. It was a long time ago and I've not repeated it since. I see there's a question about self-harm on the form. Will it effect my chances of passing the medical? What's likely to happen?
Thanks

Thanks for the help everyone, I feel better knowing I have a few options.

I'm about to start the K-1 visa process, with intentions to marry in spring next year. Unfortunately, another member of my family has planned their wedding for two months after mine. I hear the advance parole takes around 90 days to process, which means I'd miss their wedding. Is there any way to file for advance parole earlier, or is there anything else I can do?

Looks like it'll be option 2 for us, as she's attending a college course and has pets she doesn't want to leave. It all seems so close, yet so far away. It's frustrating when "normal" couples don't have to jump through all of these hoops, but then where's the fun in being normal?
Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it!

Wow, thanks for the responses! Looks like things just got a million times more complicated I hadn't realised DCF was for US citizens who were residents in a different country.
So, it looks like our options are either:
1) Get married in the US, have her move to the UK for 6 months and file the I-130 in London - having big wedding here in June
2) Get married in the US, file for a K-3 and wait for around a year.
I'm pretty sure they won't like me entering on a visa waiver if I'm in the process of applying for a K-3, so that almost rules out the June date.
Thanks for all the help

Howdy,
I'm looking to marry my American fiance and move to the US sometime next year (I live in Nottingham, UK). I've read the guides but my brain is swimming with information at the moment so I was hoping I could get a few points clarified We've already chosen the date we'd like to get married (June 2008), so it's a case of trying to work around this date.
Anyway, a few questions:
* The plan is for me to fly to the US in June, get married and then return to the UK. I don't think there will be time to file a K-1 before June, so the choice is between a K-3 and DCF. If we decide on DCF, does it need to be sent to London or the State which she lives in?
* Would my wife need to file the DCF in person?
* Would there be any problems with entering the US on a visa-waiver to get married and return?
Plan B is to get married in the UK and then file a K-3/DCF, so that it would (hopefully) be ready by June and then we could have a "proper" wedding in the States. Naturally my wallet would prefer to only pay for one wedding, but I don't really like the idea of getting married and then having to sit in the UK for 9 months twiddling my thumbs!
Any advice would be most welcome
Cheers!

Hi,
My family is coming to visit for my wedding in a few weeks, and seeing as they're allowed two cases each I've asked them to bring my stuff over (much cheaper ). It's mostly books and clothes, with a few cd's and dvd's for good measure.
I know customs and immigration can be a little unfriendly at times. Are there any forms I can fill out and give to my family so they won't get hassled? Would a copy of my I-94 be enough to prove they're bringing it for me so they won't have to risk paying fees?
Any help is greatly appreciated
