  1. Hello all, this is my first time going through this visa process and was wondering if anyone would take the time to give me some advice. To sum most of it up; I'm young, in the US military, and currently deployed to Afghanistan. My fiance is from the Philippines, and thats currently where she is at right now. I talked to her for a little over 6 months before meeting her, and we got engaged on my first visit last February. I returned for a second visit in March, and in April I shipped out to Afghanistan.

I already filed an I-129F on her behalf with the service center in Vermont, and I received a receipt and got a case number. So our plan was that hopefully by the time my deployment is over in December, she will be close to getting her visa. For now, she is trying to get her passport there in the Philippines. She has met almost all of the requiremens but ran into a problem getting a certificate from the CFO. She had to go to a seminar and they asked what her passport was going to be intended for. She told them our story and that she is going to be getting a fiance visa. And then they started harassing her with a bunch of personal questions and demanded legal documents from me. Is all that really necessary? I have trouble believing that all that information is required just to get a passport. I told her to try again, and tell them that her passport is for tourism. To try to minimize the interrogations.

So anyways, if someone has run into a similar situation i'd appreciate any help you could offer. And if anyone else has some advice for the petition, visa, passport, immigraition processes, etc. that could help my experience go smoothly, that would be great.

Tell her to go to the Quezon City office at St. Mary Euphrasia that is were i got my cfo certificate the people there are very nice.

  2. Hi Nick-Nick,

Thanks for that info. I was about to ask almost the same kind of questions. Now I am preparing some documents that we need to my change of status here. I already got married and I am planning to get SSN soon, but it should be on my new surname right? coz I am already married.

    Thanks

They will not put your new surname unless you have a green card or a letter from Homeland security that u are doing AOS , even if you show them your marriage license. Thats what they do on mine. When i received my GC i went back to the SSN office to change my name with my hubby's last name.

  3. I've read where there is a phone # to schedule... but they have delayed it? I thought they sent the schedule of Medical and interview to her?

    1. do we have to do this?

    2. whats the advantage?

Thank you kindly for the help

They will not send medical and interview schedule unless you or your fiance will call the USEM call center to set up her interview date.

  4. So I called the Call Center today and after 17 minutes on hold they said the system is still not ready to set up interview appointments. She told me to call back March 19th. I'm so sick of this. This is ridiculous. At least I have one more call left on my $18 pin. I'm so frustrated right now. Way to ruin my week! If they can't set it up when I call back I think I will blow up.

    Hi Eric,

I just called the Call Center and they told me the same. Why they told us to call on the 14th if the system is not ready to set up interview appointments yet. Their sucks!

  5. Who among you here have tried eating BALUT? and how was it?

My SO never dared to try it. We argued just because of that cuz he said he would try it but he did not. haha oh well, I can't force him!

    shai

Balut taste so good  My fiance tried it. He said balut is nasty but he ate twice.

  6. We didn't send the correct size but got approved. I wouldn't recommend it because you can get an RFE. She already sent me the wrong size so I figured not worry about it unless they asked for the correct size.

Thanks alot EricC. My fiance was so worried about the picture size. :D

    Hi everyone,

I am new on this site. I just want to ask if where to get an American size passport picture here in Manila. I mean name of a place that you got yours cause according to my fiancé when I gave him my passport picture when he applied for our application he said our (passport size in the Philippines) is very small.

    Thank you in advance.

I can not give you a name but near the embassy there are a few places that can give you the correct size. We got our photos accross the street from the swagman hotel.

    Thanks po!

  7. My fiance's passport size is 2x2 here in the Philippines, so it's different from us. But it would be best that others with experience can answer this concern.

Thank you so much "RyaNRiza for the info. God Bless!

This is actually the 2x2 size in Philippines. It's the same size I sent to my fiancee along with the docs needed for K1 petition.

You got lucky RyanNRiza. What my wife sent was more like a 1.25 by 2 inches. She said it was normal passport photos.

I think this is what Nathancel was talking about too. They have too size passport photos in the PI. The what they call "normal" one and the 2x2 (American size) that you have to specify.

Your a big help NoelandTintin. Thanks!
