  1. Hi!

Me and my husband got a green card through DV Lottery and we traveled to the US on May 26th to officially validate it. When we filled the DS-260 we requested a SSN and upon our arrival in the US the border officer confirmed that everything was requested and we should receive the card within 2 weeks at the address we provided (a relative's address in NJ). We spent 10 days in the US and then we came back to Portugal. It's been more than 4 weeks and nothing came through yet.

I called the NJ's office twice. No one tells me the status.
The first time, the person just told me to go there and almost hung-up immediately. Second time, the person was more helpful but informed me that I need to enter the US *again*, preferably when I move in, wait three weeks and then go to the Social Security Office and request directly there.
Our plan was to receive the social security card, apply to jobs and move somewhere beginning next year. Not move and then chase after the number and jobs.

I kinda believe that it may be delayed or may never come, but the part about waiting three weeks makes no sense to me. Based on your experience, should I wait a little longer and see if the card eventually comes (say by the end of august) or should I just start planning a trip to the US to take care of this? Or would it be doable to get the social security number through a US Embassy?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Hi. In Portugal the birth certificate is requested and issued online. Downloading the file is possible but it is stated that "The printing of the document has no certificate value."

Instead, it stated that I should "share an access code to any public or private entity is, for all legal purposes, equivalent to the delivery of a certificate."

Does KCC usually opens a precedent for this sort of thing? My idea was to send a print of the document accompanied with a note with the link and code and explain that for certificate purposes, they should use the code and consult online.

    Any advice or recommendation?

    Thank you,

    Ana Sofia

Curious, if the DS260 was submitted properly you shouldn’t  be able to edit, but you would not have received the document request if it was not submitted properly so it must have been…. Anyway, if you are sure you can edit it’s no problem. All sounds on track, anyway.

Ah, you are quite right actually. The Edit option is available but when I click I can't actually edit it. Thank you for alerting for the strange behaviour (that was nor actually happening 😅  )
I can add new new applicants, however.
I'll promptly request KCC to unblock my DS-260 so I can later update the marital status.

Again, thank you so much for your kind help

  4. Thank you! I don't think I'll need to request for KCC to unlock DS260 because I am still able to edit information and view the Add button on the website.

That's great news, because I'll most likely have all documents by the first two weeks of october the latest. So it shouldn't be a problem. So I'll just gather all documents and after the marriage I'll add the new person to DS-260 and send an email with all of our documentation to KCC.

    Thank you Susie!

  5. Hi. I received an email from KCC during the last week of August asking for the additional documentation needed to proceed with the DV process.
I haven't sent them yet because I am getting married this month so I'm waiting for that to add my spouse to DS-260 and to all all the documents required according to my new marital status.

Is there any inconvenient in taking some time to send the documents? Is there any deadline or recommendable maximum time to send the required documents?

    Thank you :)

  6. Hey there.

I was selected for DV Lottery with case number ~2500 for Portugal after both me and my bf applied (he fell through). I was so anxious and excited about it that I already filled DS-260 as a single person.
Our plan was to get married sometime between august and September this year. I read the information on US gov website and also online and I understood this is not much of a problem because you can just update the application if marital status changes and fill a new form for the partner. However, I'm kinda nervous about it and about how it can affect the overall process.

We met in university, been together for 7 years and bought a house together in 2019, so I know it's not like a sketchy looking case but still.

Do you think it can be a problem? Do you have any recommendations/insights on this?
