heya, I am so confused looking at my tax stuff... I had someone do my taxes...
I have a stapled pack of papers that say 1040 on the top, but then one says schedule M and others are about credits (doesnt say 1040 on the bottom)
should I unstaple it and only send in the ones that say 1040? do I need to send in schedule M too?
also do I need transcripts?
thanks for any responses, I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Ok, thank you for your responses
I'll just do it when I get back, then I will have more time to prepare everything.
Have a good week.

Hey,
my time is coming to file to remove conditions. I understand how the 90days works but I was wondering about the timing. I bought plane tickets today and completely forgot about removing condtions... my card expires on feb 2 2011 (so I can start filing next month) but my trip is dec 26-30.
I was wondering, If I file asap will there be a high possibility that I will be called in for biometrics during my trip? and if so, would it be better in that case to wait until I come home to file?
I know this topic has probably been beat to death, and I apologize, in my defense I did scan the forums but had troubles.
Thanks in advance for any information.

I don't get health insurance until I've been employed for 6 months. I'll just try calling up the planned parenthood office and making an appt. Thanks for the help everyone

Hi everyone,
Just a little question about birth control, I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right thread but here goes anyway:
I brought with me from Canada a years supply of birth control (thats all they would give me after the dreaded exam so I took it all) and now of course, I'm down to my last month. I just got a job so I could technically go to a dr and get a prescription but I was told by a co worker that the planned parenthood/family planning clinics usually offer pills for more affordable prices... so my question is this: can I get low income birth control pills? or will that go against my record (like food stamps or welfare) I don't want my sponsor paying for birth control if you know what I mean.
I don't have health insurance from my employer yet, so I'm not sure if I can go to a dr to get a prescription. My husband is a student and only has health coverage through his school for himself.
Any info on the subject would be greatly appreciated!

Laura, just to confirm the documents you'd need for a DL:
EAD
Marriage Certificate
Social Security Card
Bank Statement or Utility Bill w/ your name or a first class mail doc from federal, state or local gov't (to prove you live at your home)
(I also brought my NOA's I suppose that counts as a gov't document though)
the link has a neat tool that lets you select what documents you have and shows you a point system and you'd need 6pts to qualify. good luck again

Still nothing
What's funny is there are two other people at my job that moved from Canada to the U.S. on a K1 visa around the same time I did. Small world.
My biggest worry is that I won't get my green card before the one year anniversary of my medical in Toronto and then I'll have to go and get another one done.
I also really really REALLY need to get my drivers license.
Hi laura,
I hope everything turns out well for you, I haven't been reading the post much but I was just curious why can't you get your license? did you have one in Canada? if so you may be able to just go ahead and get your foreign license transferred to a state license. The EAD may be enough proof for them to do that.
If I'm reading this right you're in NJ so check this out to see if you can get it now
http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/LicensesNon-Citizens.htm
I live in WI and I thought I had to take a road test and everything, but I went in with all my info and was able to get a license rather quickly, no tests or anything, they took my old license though. Now I have a temporary license, but when it expires I can go in with my greencard to get the full deal. It doesnt expire until 2011. Hope that link helps, good luck!

Got a letter from USCIS today. I had been hoping for an approval notice, but no dice
Just a notification that we had contacted them (a month ago, mind you) about the status of our AOS. It said that our case was transferred to the CSC, and we should wait 180 days before contacting them again.
180 days from what? Who knows...I guess it's their way of saying, "Don't call us, we'll call you." Bastards.
Although, interestingly enough, the letter contained this sentances: "as soon as they reach a decision on your case you will be notify by mail."
"notify"????
And they want my hubby to take a bloody English test....
lol
Mine says "When you receive your card you must cary it with you at all times if you are 18 or older." pretty funny, but it just goes to show that they are human too.

Hi, I got my ead in Nov, and I passed an interview last week. I filled out some forms for a background check, Will it take longer because I'm Canadian? I'm just curious... I'd hate to lose a job opportunity because of a background check.
In Canada, I've never had to do a background check or a drug test... (just never been in a job that required it I guess) it's very confusing to me. Usually I would just give them my references and resume, and that would be fine.

hi,
I've only gone through customs once, but I've been through border checkpoints several times. When I went through customs at the airport, I said "I'm going to visit my boyfriend" and they grilled me big time, even went as far as to call him and ask if I was indeed staying with him.
so from then on, I flew from seattle, because it was only 4hrs away. and at the border checkpoint I would just say "I'm visiting friends for a few months" (which wasnt a lie, he is my best friend, and his family are my friends too) and showed them my return ticket and had no problem. I did hide my engagement ring when I came down during the k-1 process, not that it mattered. Its definitely not good to lie, so have some ties to your country and a return ticket.
My cousin was dating a guy in SC and she told the border patrol she was "staying with her boyfriend for 3 months" and they took her inside and interviewed her for 2 hours, she missed her flight. I think she didnt have enough proof, like a return ticket.
good luck!

Hey fellow sept. filers,
I got some good news this evening in my email:
Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS
Current Status: Card production ordered.
I'm extremely relieved that they didn't send any RFEs, and also relieved that everyone in our group is seeing some action on their cases. Good luck to those who have interviews still, and congratulations to all those who have received their cards and who have passed their interviews.
yay!
-
sounds to me like you're going to receive a gc in the mail, so that would be good
Congratulations!

I haven't posted much on here and periodically check here to see what's going on. It was transferred in November 2008 and we were touched on 1/12/09 saying that the paperwork was at the place it was transferred to. Is anyone other than us having trouble with getting anything done since our paperwork has been transferred to the CSC?
Mine is the same way, I expect that the CSC folks will be hearing something soon. Hang in there!
-
I am so happy to see all the approvals coming in! Congratulations to everyone, especially those who had interviews, the worst part is over for now!
I am still waiting, had a touch on the 12th... but they didn't change my status it still reads "Case transferred to another office for processing". I hope it turns out okay. I am hopeful because of all the approvals, I've gone back to checking the uscis website daily lol.
also... I've embarked on my job search... I think I've applied to every applicable job and retail store in my vicinity. Its so hard to find a regular old job in a college town. oh well. Just like the aos process, I just have to sit back and wait now.
good luck everyone, and congrats again
-
Hey everyone,
I also got a touch yesterday, my status didn't change though. It's really nice to know someone is working on the csc cases.
good luck everyone!

Hey Guys,
I haven't heard anything on my case since it was transferred to csc but I thought I'd share some cool news,
got my married name SSN in the mail today, and I also applied for my DL - and I didnt have to take a test... they just transferred my canadian license... I studied all night and day thinking I'd have to take a written test and a road test... guess I'm lucky.
anyway,
good luck to all, I hope you guys get your EAD's soon!
Happy waiting.

Hello September Filers,
A bit of info needed if that's OK. I applied for the EAD/AOS/AP back on October 4th - had the letters, biometrics etc done already.
We got an RFE late October and sent it back but it was November 20th before they got it onto their system - two weeks after it was sent back.
Anyway, just wondering if any of you guys had a similar experience - RFE-wise - and when we could expect to see our EAD at this rate. The spreadsheet you guys have here seems to show no-one had an RFE - go figure.
Thanks,
R
I had an RFE as well, you can see those with RFE's on the spreadsheet are the ones with a red "*". My case didnt get updated for a couple weeks like it got put at the back of the queue or something... but then my case was transferred to csc and I recieved my EAD. so don't give up hope, if it takes a really long time then you can always make an infopass appointment.
good luck!

congratulations!

Envy me, I got my AP in the mail yesterday.
I got two copies...does this mean anything? Do they keep one and I keep the other?
congrats..
yes.. 2 copies..
i think one for you and the immigration officer when u get back..
.
So what happens if I travel back to Canada again?
I'll only have one copy....
here is another post that might help everyone understand how the AP works:
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=116452
I think they keep a copy and you keep the 2nd one (to use for mulitiple visits), I would make a photo copy of it to store at home, just to be safe.

Praise God!!!!!!!!!!! My 2 year greencard is on it's way! Just received the email -
Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS
Current Status: Card production ordered.
On December 17, 2008, we ordered production of your new card...
We are sooo happy and thankful for this wonderful Christmas gift. We will pray for continued approvals for our "September AOS Filers family" - especially for those waiting on AP for holiday travel and much needed EADs.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Annie & Tim
Yay!
Congratulations!

ok thanks your post was very informative! I will do as they suggested and inform them that I moved, and wait until they send me a voucher to send the money back, I am not going to cash it or just send it back, the lady on the phone informed me that if I just mail it back to them they won't know why and will probably send me another one.
-
okay...so while I pray that our address change went through because we are approved now, I have a couple of questions:
1) Once my wife gets her EAD, do we go to the Social Security office to get her name changed on her card and get the "vaild with DHS approval" taken off?
2) What does the Travel Document look like? is it a card like the EAD?
3) What info is on the EAD card?
1: you can go when you get the EAD, bring the marriage certificate and all the other stuff (passport etc) and they will change the name and remove "valid with DHS Authorization". They may make a photocopy of the EAD, at least they did for me, because even after 10 days I wasn't in the system... which doesnt surprise me. and they will do a manual check with DHS (if you're not in their system)
2: Travel document is two identical papers, it says you're approved for travel, lists any conditions etc, and has your picture on the bottom.
3: the ead is a a card, had your picture, name, fingerprint, and signature on it and date of validity... a barcode etc.

I didn't work much at all last year, and when I did it wasn't taxable unfortunately... so I will see what happens.
Thank you for clarifying that when I activated the visa I became a non-resident. I had thought that this was the case but the lady on the phone made me confused about it... she didnt know much about visas though...
Thanks for the help Sprailenes
what part of tax return do I submit?

Ok, thanks! I will add the 1040 pages only. I don't have time to get a transcript, but I will do it if they ask. Thanks again
