I know 2 people (Haitian) who did it 2 years ago. They didn’t ask them prove of residency at the embassy. If your husband is still in the DR, I think  he can have the interview without the residency but when you’re gonna fill the I-130 or I-130A your need to put in the location where he’s gonna have the interview “Santo Domingo ”. I would recommend you to call and ask them first.

Now I’m currently waiting for the interview letter in Santo Domingo, my case was assigned to Haiti and I switched it to the Dominican Republic.

Thank you for your response! That’s very helpful 😊

  2. Thank you for your reply. My husband is a private tennis instructor and has his Masters in Physical Therapy. He just graduated before the virus hit and was not able to do either for several months. The tennis picked back up in September 2020 and he just recently got a contracted Physical Therapy job for 7 weeks. So I am not sure if that is sufficient enough to prove social or economic ties. He does have two siblings there that are also enrolled in the university. As far as residency he was there on a student visa until it ran out and now just on a tourist visa.

  3. Hello.

I hope this makes sense! My husband has been staying in the Dominican Republic for approximately 5 years on a student visa because he was enrolled in the University there. He got his Master’s Degree a year ago. Since the covid pandemic happened he has not gone back to Haiti of which he is a citizen, but has a B-2 tourist visa. Does he have to go back to Haiti for the CR-1 visa interview or is their an option for him to choose the embassy in Dominican Republic? I have not filed the I-130 yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 😊 Thank you
