    Hi,

The requirement for an F-1 visa is to show that you and your family have money in the bank or the ability to pay for ALL 4 years of your studies.  If you show them that you only have savings for one year, then you will not get a visa.  You will want to bring your father's financial paperwork showing that he has the money or the ability to pay for your US education and a letter from him stating that he intends to pay for your education.  There is nothing official.  You need to provide evidence from banks, tax returns, paystubs, etc.

Oh I’m aware of that, my concern was that on my DS-160 form I selected ‘self’ as my financial sponsor, since I will be paying the first year, but since the rest of it will be paid from somebody else will it be an issue that I put ‘self’ on the form?

  2. Hi!! I’m an aspiring international student in the US but I need help with something

when I filled out my DS-160, I answered ‘self’ to the sponsor question since the first year is coming out of my own savings. However it didn’t let me add any additional sponsors and my father is going to be funding the remaining 3 years for my computer science degree, will it be an issue if I turn up on interview day and name him as a sponsor for my studies if i haven’t explicitly stated that on my form?

also, do sponsors need to sign anything official themselves to say they’ll be paying for my studies??
