  1. hi all...

    We're currently in Alaska, but we want to get our dual-citizenship for our baby daughter...anyone have any suggestions for how to go about it? I looked on the Canada immigration page, and it said that the application could take a year? Is that true? Surely there has to be some way to fill out the paperwork while on vacation back home and have it go faster than that!

  2. Yep...you will have to pay it back. We kept receiving the checks in Corinna's CDN account as well, even though we notified them that we had moved at the end of August. We owe for Sept- January, which is when they finally stopped sending the checks. There is a phone number on the CTB application that we used that allowed us to talk to an actual person...it took a few times, but it finally happened.

  3. Donny, someone is giving you very bad information. AND you are giving wrong information also.

    K-3 visa holders can get the SSN right away.

    WRONG INFORMATION!

    K3s have to get a EAD or a GC before they can get their SSN.

    Haole, I first agreed with you. But I checke out the SS website

    http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10120.html#proof

    and found this :

    "If you are not a U.S. citizen, Social Security must see your current U.S. immigration documents. Acceptable documents from the Department of Homeland Security include your:

    • Form I-551 (includes machine-readable immigrant visa with your unexpired foreign passport);
    • I-94 with your unexpired foreign passport; or
    • Work permit card (I-766 or I-688B). "
    We filed the W-7 last year and intend to file an extension this year until the AOS goes through and we get our SS number. I may go down Monday though and see if an I-94 is really all they need to apply for SS. As always, it appears that this immigration stuff is based on who you talk to on any given day...
  4. Finally getting ready to Adjust status, and for some reason looked at the USCIS site and saw something called a I-485 Supplemental Form A. I didn't see it on the visajourney guides section. Did any other K-3 visa holders fill this out when adjusting status?

    You only fill the I-485A out if you are:

    A. Alien crewmen;

    B. Aliens who work without authorization;

    C. Aliens in unlawful immigrant status;

    D. Aliens who fail to continuously maintain a lawful status since entry into the United States;

    E. Aliens who were admitted in transit without visa;

    Thanks.

  5. Nancy Grace is a joke. She publicly judged those Duke lacrosse players, telling nationwide audience that they were guilty of rape. When the real facts came out, and it was apparent that they had been railroaded by an out of control attorney bent on furthering his personal goals by getting media limelight, she called in sick. Never an apology, or any hint of remorse.

  6. Here is the link someone was looking for that has a pretty good guide to both candidates and their economic policies. http://money.cnn.com/news/specials/election/index.html

    I was a Republican until I realized that I don't make enough money to be in their club. That, and their continued emphasis on steering any discussion of moral values toward gay marriage and abortion, yet never addressing poverty, health care, or education in the US.

  7. I guess you dividend cheque is going to be less. booo - hoooooo poor Alaskans. :hehe:
    Uh....it's not based on oil prices. It's based on investment returns over the previous 5 year period. But thanks for playing.

    High oil prices are good for Alaska because it's more income for the state treasury. It's like....high orange or wine prices for California, except a lot more so because natural resources are all we have.

    I see gas prices around town have plummeted since oil went from $140 to $100. :innocent:

    12 more minutes and the dividend hits my account :)

  8. Of course, if Sarah Palin believes Russia invaded unprovoked, she's as much of an idiot as those believing Georgia was completely innocent here.

    This country is in deep #### if she ends up President.

    I'm sure she's not worried about Russia...I mean, even if they did invade Georgia, they still have a majority of the South, all those Midwestern states, and then Canada to get through before they get to Alaska. :whistle:

  9. My taxable income falls into the 38-66k bracket. Under McCain's plan, I would pay about $300 less. Under Obama's, I pay $1000 less.

    According to the Tax Policy Center, which hails itself as non-partisan based in DC, it is estimated that over 10 years, McCain's tax proposals could increase the national debt by as much as $4.5 trillion with interest, while Obama's could add as much as $3.3 trillion.

    I found these numbers on CNN/Money magazine's site here

    http://money.cnn.com/news/specials/election/index.html

    I think this site is pretty accurate, but I'm sure there are those that will disagree.

    Maybe if you break the numbers down, they could disagree a little less.

    I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I've been reading through the point by point comparisons of the two with my financial state in mind. Everyone's got to make their own decisions based on their situation...

  11. I've said this several times - Palin has a coherent plan for energy which she touched on last night. She has been consistently - without a script or a teleprompter - in the business press talking about it persuasively and articulately for the past 6 months (that I've noticed). And I generally disagree with her zeal for drilling.

    She has raised taxes on oil companies and given the voters $1200 in energy credits.

    I'm not gonna vote for her. But the way she has been outrightly dismissed by people who were probably more than a little rattled this morning has been very interesting to me.

    Incidentally, she has never introduced any legislation to promote abstitence or limit contraception. She mentioned "god" far fewer times in her speech than Barack Obama in his.

    Just saying

    I agree with her drilling stance. I agree with her increasing the tax on the oil companies here in Alaska. But, she did not give the voters $1200 in energy credits. That would have been the wise thing to do if it were truly about energy. Instead, it will be a $1200 add-on to the permanent fund dividend check that we get every autumn as a result of market investments made on oil royalties. I'm very worried that a State that already has a welfare attitude and an entitlement attitude will only get more dependent on government as a result of this action she took.

    I agree with her drilling stance and McCain's as well. Now I get what they mean by *country first*! But what I want to know is when did the dividend check get cut off and is this a permanent situation or temporary? The divident is permanent as long as government doesn't take it away, in spite of the name "permanent" it really isn't. This is an add on that will most likely become an expected annual addition when people see how many big-screen TVs they can get, and realize that they will really need money for energy next year.

    Can this be changed? Yes, but it takes politicians who are willing to commit political suicide And what concerns you about the dependent on government welfare entitlement attitude? That in a state where my entire local and state tax burden was $2500 on a $200,000 property. No state income tax, no state or local sales tax. Yet people will still claim that this is excessive and want oil companies to pay for everything. and Is it that this will spread to the rest of the US? When it comes to the rest of the US, I'm actually more worried about the US unemployment rate and the loss of jobs overseas. Because if us drilling on our own soil gives some benefit to American people like Alaska is then does that mean that the welfare attitude will spread to the rest of the United States? Not sure what you're trying to say here, but let me say it again. DRILL ANWR. And then build the gas pipeline too. And log the Tongass too! :thumbs:

    The portion that has been proposed for drilling is less than one tenth of the Alaskan Wildlife Reserve. No one lives out there and it won't affect anything out there. Well, that's a simple view of it. But I live in Alaska. Why are you telling me this like it's news? It's simple economics that make sense. Demand remains the same while supply increases and prices go down. Actually, I'm all for drilling but I think Oil prices are pretty much set by a cartel, OPEC. In a true free market, I would agree with you. But contrived scarcity keeps prices high. And the amount of oil coming out of ANWR wouldn't change our overal prices much we really need to explore alternative fuels. ANWR oil wouldn't be like turning a spigot on and boom! there's oil. It could be years post-ANWR passage before we get oil to market. Alleviating our prices & having taxes actually do thing by going to what they are supposed to (the communities we live in), helping our businesses I thought taxes hurt businesses by taking money away from potential investment which help us in return and keep us employed, helping our economy as a whole because it spills over from state to state, allowing the arts and sciences to flourish during a time of prosperity and a general boost in moral (I'm assuming you meant morale, but we could be talking about Family Morals, right?)because we're taking care of ourselves and not the world. We're taking care of our future as well by picking our battles. We'll pick a battle with anyone who has a resource we need! Personally, it bugs me that North Korea has nukes that could actually fall in my front yard, but since they have no oil, I'm not expecting much...We've had an agenda and we've been on the path and a sudden change isn't going to do us any good. What sudden change? Have you been following ANWR? A sudden change would do us good, because change would mean drilling. Despite having both sides of Congress and the White House from 2000-2006, we couldn't get drilling done! People are wanting to change things before we've gotten to the good things about the path we are on. All the models indicate globally we are going though a transition period where the two parties are really the same party and that we are going to experience moderate change to ensure lasting peace. Which model? The most recent model is the democratization of South Africa. Based on that a country seems to stabilize from the date of constitution in about 15-16 years. How long does that last? 5,000 US troops have already sacrificed their lives for something they believe in. In a Democratic Society. In lasting democratic peace. In the Middle East? LOL!! We have already gone a great distance and we're looking at being 10 years away from the completion of our investment. Oh...we're not talking about oil anymore? Or are we? I'm confused...In making allies and exchanging powers with resources like never before. 10 years of paying a debt to our children and grandchildren. Is that the debt that currently is about $31,000 per US Citizen? We have the resources and time to take care of what needs to be taken care of now so that our families and citizens in the future are more secure. It's realistically going to take time and making any big changes now is going to be more chaos, more blood, more sweat, more tears much further down the road then what we are experiencing right now. I wish you would have told that to Bush as he stood on the aircraft carrier telling our troops the job was done :)

    Models show that with the population of China and the increase in their productivity for less because they are Communist country with labor resources unlike anywhere else that they will surpass the United States in the next 50 years. China already occupies the world economically and there is no labor force population like it. Even the US's 'once great middle class' is being done away with. India with nearly equal population to China, around 1 Billion, agreed to alliances with China in business but India is a Democracy. With the nearly the same population labor resources that the US companies like Walmart exploits. We already had established alliances in business with India, but business is business, and there is no nationalism in business except the almighty dollar, which everyone subscribes to some form of money worship these days. This is why our government chooses to put "In God We Trust" on our materials of commerce. Part of what the global committee has been doing with China is to make it more Democratic with giving it the 2010 Olympics, by forcing it onto the World Stage; though media we are being aware Global Citizen bringing light for every humans right and the violations countries insight. This seems like something I would have said during my Econ 101 classes...Does the U of I have an economics program? Are you part of it?

    When are we going to start paying attention to the serious news? Show me some serious news, I'll show you a show that's going to be cancelled after a month. When are we going to learn to differentiate between comedy potrayed as news, and the liberal media vs the conservative media and rhetoric of party line agendas? Here's my guess...NEVER. I'm sorry but this is not about who has the best legs, and who wears lipstick, and the ####### monolouges. I saw it happen in Alaska. It can happen anywhere. This is a capitolist economy and a democratic society and a collabrative global partner and leader with the highest GNP running. If you all aren't getting it (what is it?)and you'd rather live somewhere else then by all means travel the world but there is no better place than here and I want to keep it that way. I really like Boise too. It was like Pleasantville. Everyone smiled and waved, no one littered, and everyone actually waited for the crosswalks! Old Chicago Pizza is so good and I love the beer tour. This is my property and no one is going to take from me. Check again. 5th Amendment. It happens in the US still. They are going to have to pry the shot gun from my cold dead body first. "This land is my land, this land is your land. This land was made for you and me." You should write a song with those lines...It would be a catchy tune :)This land is the United States of America and I am an American citizen and a global citizen. Did they ask you to choose during your visa interview? I know my identity. And because of USCIS, so do "they"!! I know my blood. I do too..mine is O- :)

    On a side note which has completely nothing to do with politics I love the way Palin says, "snow machine racer," with a smile looking lovingly at her Husband, Todd. The First Dude of Alaska is a stud, no doubt. It's the most genuine loving look ever and his cute "I'm the man" smile in reply to her giddiness from being in love with him is really something lovely to see. :luv:Or maybe it's a smugness that comes with knowing you're making babies with the Governor and possibly future VP :thumbs:http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4414033n It's around 8:34 in the time code.

    Oh...and Alaska won the Kelly Cup too. And did you know when Idaho won it the first time their Captain was from the U of Alaska :dance:

    And finally, just curious, but what Labor Unions have endorsed the McCain/Palin ticket? I know several that are against McCain, but haven't heard of any actually for him.

    Ok...bed time...sweet dreams everyone :)

  12. To be fair, I don't think that's neccesarily happening.

    Sarah Palin isn't about appealing to the "Clinton Woman" It's about appealing to the "Reagan Democrats" - socially conservative, older, working class voters who swing vote

    wow ... didn't know this group of people were that popular ... :o

    And big enough to sway an election? Where the heck did they hold that convention :whistle:
