  1. Hi All,

Well, I'm a US Citizen now. Took the oath this morning and it was very wonderful.

Here is my experience for the Houston Oath Ceremony:

Arrived at the M.O. Campbell auditorium at 6:15 am. You get into a line depending on the last 3 numbers of youe A number. The same IO that interviewed me last month received me in my line. I gave him my green card and oath letter. He then showed me my naturalization certificate and asked me if all the info on it was correct. He gave me a colored piece of paper. I then went into the auditorium to join my husband and son. This is now about 6:45 am. At 7 am they begin to sell coffee, donuts and snacks. Cash only! So bring money. We then sit until 9 am when someone from Immigration gave us information on voter registration, passport application and SSA. Thay also told us there were 1,683 people there to take the oath !! At 10 am the Judge comes out and says a few words on freedom and your new responsibilities. The Judge advises us we are about to become citizens....if anyone wants to back out now is the time. We say the pledge....and like that, from one moment to the next, we are citizens. They then call your color paper and you go get your naturalization certificate. Stand in line to take pictures with the Judge. Next stop is SSA. You can complete the SS-5 form prior to going there. Bring the SS-5 form and your naturalization certificate to update your status with SSA. Next stop is Post Office for passport. Again, you can have the application completed prior to arrival. Have your photos and naturalization certificate ready......in and out in 15 minutes.

We are finally finished. It was a long, complicated and expensive journey....but with our Visa Journey friends we did it all by ourselves.

Best Wishes to all on your Journey,

    Jenny

  2. Broma25, here is what they did....clean hands with a liquid cleaner lotion, take print of all 4 fingers and thumb of left hand, then all 4 fingers and thumb of right hand. then take print of each finger and thumb individually. No picture of my face taken. Just bring NOA2 and Perm Res card and any other ID.

That's it....in and out very fast. Oh, and be sure to get your free Citizenship study guide....... :star:

  5. sorry, but I don't think that it should be generally recommended to do walk-ins on biometrics. Appointments are given out for a reason - one

being that the workload of the ASCs stays at a manageable level each day. If everyone would follow your advise there would be chaos at every biometrics place.... may-be you should consider removing your "advise" from the general faq area.

Gotta disagree here.....if you walk in and they are too busy they will tell you to come back on your date; if they are not too busy and they let you come in why not get the bios done??? I just don't see what harm it does. You are the one taking the chance of getting turned away if they are too busy.....it is your time, your risk. Getting another requirement in your control out of the way.....well, the sooner the better in my book.

    Good luck to all,

    Mark & Jenny

Then they will just turn you away and those with appointments will be let in.....still don't see the problem.

  7. You’re welcome, EAU, this is why I posted about my experience today. Like I said previously the application support center is within walking distance from my house.

For clarification Nia, I didn’t think I’d be “allowed” to jump the queue (why are you so bitter?) I tried it out --- people have been known to be accepted when just walking in for their biometrics if the support-center is not busy, and that is why *I tried* today. (who here wouldn’t do anything they could to move their case along faster???)

Case in point, this particular center DOES accept walk-in’s (but only if a person has MISSED their appointment) so if I missed my appointment, they would have accepted me and done my biometrics today.

Jenny did a walk in two weeks before her appointment. The service center is several miles away, I happened to be off that day, so we took a chance and they took us. Otherwise, I would have had to take a day off from work. And like you say.....why not try to move your case along.......makes sense to me.

  8. Hey Everybody,

Jenny just got finished with her biometrics. Her ASC appointment notice has 19 Oct 2007 for her biometrics (sorry I made a mistake on earlier post.....I said it was 12 Oct and this is wrong). We went this morning to the North Houston ASC and they let us walk in !! Jenny filled out the one page form and we sat down to wait our turn. In less than 2 minutes the guy comes over and asks if Jenny has number 64....that's her number so she is next. We were in and out of there in less than 20 minutes.

A very good experience. This is the second time we walked in for biometrics and they took us both times. The lady who received Jenny at the door did look to see how many people were getting biometrics........so I got the impression if they were too busy they might have turned us away. But as luck would have it they were not busy.

So, biometrics completed today 28 Sept 2007.

    Good luck to all,

    Mark & Jenny
