  1. I went through Hurricane Ike last September...my first hurricane experience.

I'm looking for big things from Hurricane Larry this year. What a great name for a potentially devastating storm, right?

  2. James Sheppard of the Minnesota Wild is from there.

My brother and James Sheppard were line mates for 2.5 years :)

I think my Dad taught Sheppard in junior high. I had a cousin on the Screaming Eagles, too...also played for the Mooseheads and Victoriaville.

  3. Born: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Raised: Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia (Nova Scotia's TRUE masterpiece) :)

Interesting facts about Lr. Sackville: Uh, this is gonna be hard. James Sheppard of the Minnesota Wild is from there. So is nutjob stand-up comedian Nikki Payne. The guy who invented the process of making paper from wood pulp is from Middle Sackville.

Oh, the first season of "Trailer Park Boys" was filmed in Lr. Sackville.

I tell people I'm from Halifax. It's much easier.

Also lived in Ottawa, ON (which I absolutely hated), Toronto, ON (for a summer, people work too much in Toronto) and Calgary, AB (which I absolutely loved.)

  4. We filed for AOS back in mid-June, and received the RFE for my wife's (the USC'S) 2007 W2s on Friday. She's self-employed and doesn't have any.

Without going the tax transcript route, and seeing as it's been impossible to speak with anyone at USCIS all day, does anyone have any advice on what type of note to submit to them stating "hey, she's self-employed...she doesn't have W2s"?

We're looking at a five-month process so far...getting a little frustrated on this end!

  5. It's no different than making $20/hour for an entry-level job in Calgary, but only making $12/hour for a similar position in Halifax.

There are too many variables (cost of living, taxes) to make a comparison between wages in Canada and the US.

  6. Based on a recommendation from the forum, I stayed at the Barclay Hotel when I was in Vancouver for my interview. It was about a 10-minute walk to the Consulate.

I was there in late March and the room was $50/night. The place isn't anything special...the room was tiny but clean. It's right downtown, though.

  7. There's a Canadian-themed pub here in Houston...the aptly named Maple Leaf Pub. We're heading there tomorrow.

The wife tried to get some Keith's imported for me, but the liquor distributor down here couldn't do it. :(

I may be stuck drinking Moosehead for Canada Day. Sad.

  8. If you have nothing nice to say, then STFU!

Yes, because, heaven forbid, someone has a differing opinion than y'all on what TV shows they like. Wow.

Calm down. It was a joke. However, as a heterosexual male, I AM excited the movie is out today...maybe they'll stop airing the commercials now. :)

  9. I had a basic file folder with everything inside it. Security took it and skimmed through it, messing up the order in which I placed the documents.

Guess they were looking for something hidden inside the sheets of paper!

  10. At my recent Vancouver interview, they did not give me a list of the order they wanted everything in...which was good, seeing as security went through my folder and messed it all out of order anyway!

I had everything in one file folder, and handed them the documents as they asked for them.

  11. Is that how the US treats its neighbors? Horrible.

Neighbors with drug convictions, yeah. But they buried that part of his story deep in the article...as they did when this story broke two weeks ago.

  12. O.k. dumb question, But the checklist I got from Vancouver does not say anything about a letter of intent (or maybe I just missed it) Where is that requirement from again?

At my Vancouver interview two weeks ago, they didn't ask for the letter of intent.

  13. Pittsburg is an exciting team. not sure trading for Hossa made them a better team though!!

Hossa is an all-star who had 29 goals this year...I'd take him!

Next Flames game isn't until Sunday night. The Saddledome is gonna be insane...I wish I could be there!!!
