  1. My fiancé just had a horrible experience with his k-1 interview at the New Delhi embassy. The interview was incredibly rude and even ordered him to “stop smiling” during the interview (he is a good natured fellow who almost always has a smile on his face). The interviewer found nothing whatsoever flawed in our documents, but is still demanding tons more materials from us, including, among many, many other things, voters lists for the past 5 years with his name on it to complement the half a dozen other forms of identity proof he has already given, and notarized statements from our parents saying that they approve of our marriage (I am 28 and he is 31!) They also demanding more proof of relationship, when we already have given boarding passes, tickets, pictures, and reservations for a trip we took together, a skype call log showing long daily conversations extending back almost a year, and boarding passes from four different trips he took to visit me while I was away in another city for the summer! And this is India, where many of these petitions are for arranged marriages in which there is no past relationship at all! I’m getting very frightened that they are just looking for an excuse to reject his application. He is Muslim, so part of me is concerned that that may be a factor as well.

Have other people had these types of experiences with demands going above and beyond the basic requirements put forth at the interview? Should I try to hire a lawyer or is it too late in the game? Also, no one even bothered explaining to him whether he will need to come in for another interview after submitting the materials. Does anyone know what the standard process is?

Both of us are feeling pretty crestfallen and vulnerable right now, so any advice or even shared similar experiences would be much appreciated...

That sucks! Sorry to hear that.

  2. sahil908,

    Congratulations on your approval!

    1) Your profile says K3. Did you use your K3 interview date to change over to CR1? If so, how did you go about doing it?

    2) What docs did you submit for interview?

    Goodluck.

Thanks. I was going for K3 but for whatever reason USCIS closed my I-129F petition "administratively." I had no choice but to go with I130 instead. I did not do anything.

Also, I submitted all the docs requested by NVC. Below is a list of supporting docs for DS-230 application:

    1. DS-230 Part1 (Signed) and Part 2 (Not signed)

    2. 2 Pictures of 2X2 size(write case number behind picture)

    3. Passport bio-graphic page(Copy)

    4. Birth Certificate (Original)

    5. Marriage Certificate(Original)

    6. PCC from District Police Station(Original)

    7. PCC from Passport Office(Original)

I hope this helps. Good luck...

  3. Hello all,

I just wanted to inform all the fellow Vjers who have been through this process with me and/or going through it that my wife's visa was approved on Sep 8thm She received her visa on Sep 11th. She will be in the US on Sep 18 (God Willing).

I want to thank everyone for helping me and guiding me through the process. Good luck to all those who are unfortunately still waiting.

  4. just an update to my case... i just called DOS and she said they just received my info last week... ( basically 1 month went to waste - hubys interview was on july 28 08 in chennai, and it took DOS a month to get our info)

she was a nice lady, God bless her.. usualy they dont give you any info.. and i said whats the reason for it? since i was present with him at the interview and it went well, and we were not asked for any additinal docs.. she said oh everyone goes thru this review after 9/11.. so i said basically name check, background check?

    she said yup exactly!

so i was so hapy to get some info, rest is in God's hands.. and may everyones AP speed up, and may soon be with our spouse...

just wanted to post as an update to my case..

i also plan to call chennai embasy tonight (their morning) and see what they say..

    anyone else get any updateS?

Sorry about your AP thing. My wife's interview is on Sep 8th. She is from Hyderabad, India. I hope it goes well. I might join you guys on this list haha.... I am preparing myself.

  5. My husband had his interview today and it appears to me that it didnt go very well. It was the black man and he ask him maybe 2 questions. The last question was has your wife taken any money from you for immigration purposes? Then he told him he was putting him on AP and would call him back in 2 months. I dont think any amount of money would be worth this bull #######. Are they kidding? Anyway I have a feeling this is gonna be quite a wait for us. I am thinking maybe a year or two. There was another man there also that had an interview and he didnt even ask him one question he just put him on AP also and said they would call him in 2 months. What is messing us up is because I had put in a petition for another person a couple years ago and I broke it off because i suspected fraud on his part. Now they think I am taking money for this i guess. My question is, I am going there in November . Do you think the embassy will let me in to follow up on our case? I plan on emailing them and telling them I will be there at that time and hopefully they can give me an appointment to talk to a consulate.

Another thing is my husband had all kinds of proof but they never asked to see anything. I think he froze up because he should of told them what he had. But i can't blame him for that , those people can sure make you feel nervouse when they dont believe you. I guess all I can do is focus on my visit to see him this November.

Damn! feel sorry for you. Thats awful. May Allah make it easy for all of us.

  6. That's correct it doesn't really matter if your wife haven't got the packet... If you can sent her the interview letter and everything that this has on (WHAT'S ON PACKET #4?????????????????????????) It will be helpful, you never know when she's gonna get it and she really needs the interview letter for the interview

    Hi,

Does anyone know if I can scan my P4 and email it to my wife? Or do I HAVE to send it thru snail mail? I am not able to tell the difference between "original" P4 they sent me and its scanned copy because its not color. I dunno maybe I am missing something. Maybe someone else out here knows better.

    Thanks,

I feel so sorry for you guys. That really sux. My wife is appearing for a visa on Sep 8th. She is from Hyd as well. This is def not a good sign. Makes me more nervous.

  8. Hey all,

My wife went to Ahemdabad to get the PCC but she was denied the PCC because they wanted the interview letter. She did take the copy of NOA2 with her and all of the supporting evidence(passport, marriage certificate, and even the local police clearance certificate). However, they still refused. I really wanted her to get the PCC before the DS230 is generated so that I can send it in as soon as I get it. However, this PCC looks like to be a major hold up in the process. I asked NVC about what interview letter the ahemdabad passport agency wanted and they said interview letter that they need is the request letter that NVC sends you after you pay your IV fee bill.

Is there a "request letter" in the DS-230 package? Is this request letter the instructions for DS-230? Does anyone have a copy of this that they can share(ofcourse with personal info removed)? Has anyone else gone through this process at ahemdabad and what did it take to get the PCC?

Please advise me asap so I can get this squared away. I'm hoping that my choice of agent is accepted this week and I can pay the IV fee bill by end of week so that DS-230 is generated next week.

    Thanks!!

    Hi,

My wife had the same problem (through Hyderabad though). Maybe you can ask your spouse to print the article from the following link and then try it.

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciproc...ocity_3582.html

Also, make sure your wife's passport is valid for at least one year. Apparently, Passport office requires one year validity to issue PCC (Bull s**t)!!!

  9. Hi VJers,

I have a question for anyone who used James' shortcut to create Barcoded coversheet for I-864. What did you guys put next to case number where it says CR1? In the sample coversheet it is written as:

    MNL2006123456 CR1

I can change the case number to my case number but what about CR1? I have been married for like 8 months now.

Also, we need to generate bar code of the case number(including the three letter prefix) only right and exclude the CR1 part? I searched for this info in VJ but couldn't find it.

    Thanks,

  10. Hi fellow VJers,

My wife is the only one I am sponsoring and I am the only sponsor. I am using my income from W2 which by itself is well above the poverty line and income from 1099 I received from my stock broker. Am I still qualified for using I-864EZ? I already have I864 filled out, but I see some people on VJ are preferring I-864EZ over I-864. I am trying to avoid an RFE. Would appreciate any help.

    Thanks,

  11. We just called NVC to check on our status if there are no more problems or if we are near completion and well guess what we found out, they are sending our I-864 form because there was a problem in PART 8 line 30....my husband typed in his name and NVC requires it to be handwritten, they said its the rule it doesn't matter if the signature is affixed. The petitioner's name should be handwritten. Oh well, we are sending the corrected one today. She (the operator) said we don't have to wait for the letter to come from NVC.

Just another tip to avoid RFE. Goodluck!

    Thanks.

  12. We emailed our Choice of Agent to NVC and we got a response saying that they received it. This response was received via email. When I call the phone line to check on the status of our case, the message says "We received the Choice of Agent form" for this case. Please allow 2 weeks to receive papers, etc.

At no time did the email or the phone message say anything about our AOS bill. Will they send that separately or am I to assume that they also did that the same time they accepted our Choice of Agent.

FYI -- I sent the email before I got the recording saying that they had mailed the Choice of Agent forms.

Please advise. What should I do?

Can you actually do that? My case status on NVC's Automated system still says "...This case was entered in the NVC computer system on _______. The case number assignned by the NVC is (Case #). Please allow 6-8 week from this date for the beneficiary to receive the documents." Can I have my wife still email them the Choice of Agent?

  13. Hi all,

I am preparing the DS-230 package ahead of time. My wife went to the local precinct in Hyderabad, India and requested for a Police Clearance Certificate as required by the NVC, but they denied her the certificate saying that they need a written request from embassy or something. If I wait for the letter from NVC and then approach the Police department, then it will delay my wife's visa process. Does anyone know where I can get this "written request?"

    Thanks,
