  2. I have to say I was shocked how much bashing and dearty ads there is here. I was so disapointed with the media. It's not supprising people don't now what's going on outside of the states. I met people that didn't now there are other countries fighting in Afganistan except US. I always watch BBC World news, reminds me of European news, you get the information and form your own opinion. I don't like Republicans because of the way they do campaing and they supposed to be christians. I'm a catholic and I don't think Good would agree with the way they are trying to win. I think McCain is ok but I doubt he would ever stand up against his party. They need to loose this elections to change. I like Obama but I don't like ultraliberals. I can't stand Nancy Pelosi. I agree with Obamas policies about economy, education and health care and that is what should count. I respect him and the way he's runing his camaign. I don't like McCains standpoint on education where everybody should be able to choose the school. It would cause big problems in a sense that again rich people are going to be able to get into the good schools, and bad schools wouldn't improve. If McCain will run this country the way he runs his campaign Good help us. Just my 2 cents.

  3. Hi everyone,

i'm new here and after reading a lot i would just like to ask few questions. We decided to take lawyer to help us with everything (after i discovered this page and saw that its maybe better without lawyer). Lawyer sent all documents at May 20 and we received case number at June 3 (i saw that at their page). Since then nothing :( Papers are sent to Vermont. I'm croatian and i would like to ask if somebody from croatia is right now in the process? Our lawyer told us that usually takes up to 9 months until interwiev, is that right?

    Thank you for all answers,

    Tihana

Hi Tihana, I'm from Zagreb, Croatia and went through the process, you can see my timeline in the signature, if you have any questions I'll be glad to help, just send me a message. There's only a few people from Croatia that recently went to the process.

  4. However, the two most spoken languages in the world are English and Spanish. So I feel there is a very good reason for speaking both English and Spanish.

In my knowledge the most spoken language in the world is Chinese. I'm fluent in three languages (English, German and Croatian). I studied Spanish because I think it's a nice language, not because I might need it one day. I spent few years in Germany and actually there is a lot of Turkish national that live there for 20 years and still don't speak German! I think they have the law where German is an official language. Making the law is not going to force people to learn it. I also agree with one poster that you can't force private companies like Wal Mart or Home Depot not to use Spanish, it's business only. Also, there's a lot of Hispanic people that do speak English so to generalize would be a mistake. In Croatia we start to learn English in first grade and in 4th grade a second language (usually German, Italian or French).

I do think there should be put more effort for people that already live here to learn English, there are ESL classes. I agree with Obama there should be some kind of a educational reform where would be more emphasis on learning languages not because you need it but as an option for kids who want to learn them.

  5. I can't believe this!!!!!! I was sure the Dutch will win against Russia. Russians qualified for Euro only because Croatia won against England in qualifications, amazing!! I'm still devastated the way we lost against Turks, I hope Podolski and Ballack kick their buts!!! They sneaked trough the same way Italians did on the World Cup in Germany two years ago. But I think Russians deserve the victory today.

This Euro cup is crazy this year

do i smell a non-european final?? russia vs turkey??

  6. Wow, awesome game!! I'm glad Germans won!!! Croatia should win tomorrow but you never know... Anyway, to bad they need to play against Germany in semi finals, I like German team.

  7. Way to go Croatia... was pulling for them for a friend of mine..

:) I really enjoy soccer especially when Croatia is winning... When we got out of the World Cup 2006, after that I was for Germany (because I was studying there at the time), my favorite was Podolski and he's still cute as he was 2 years ago. I remember songs Germans where singing, I loved it. "Berlin, Berlin, wir fahren nach Berlin"...and then when they lost and it was obvious they are not going to be in the final (Berlin) they started to sing "Stuttgart is viel schoner als Berlin, schoner als Berlin...." ...Ah, I miss Germany too, as well as Croatia.... and if I would go back there I would miss Virginia..

    Geez Austria:Poland 1:1....Good for us

  8. I am rooting for the frenchies, even though they haven't been at their best since '98 World cup.

I really liked Zizou...he is one of my favorite players. To bad he's not playing anymore.

  9. My husband has been recording all the games and watching them when he gets home from work. I have to keep quiet about the results because he has a self-imposed media blackout (as he calls it) so he can watch the games "live."

My husband is waining because he has to be at work but I kept him up to date by screaming on the phone  My parents gave him croatian jersey for christmas an he still didn't have a chance to wear it.

It seems to me that on ESPN everybody are so supprised by Croatia winning, I don't get it why. Croatians are big soccer fans and I think we are doing good for a country with 4.5 millions of people... :)

  10. Yeah good luck with that.

'cause things are so much better in Europe.

Europe is probably better if you're a lazy bum who likes to take it easy ;)

That's what I've been saying for years.

But yeah, let's go to Europe because gas is $4 / gallon.... it's only $10 / gallon over there.

Yes, but many places in Europe are much more friendly to living without a car.

Yes, but who wants to live without a car?

Or air conditioning - it's also "optional" in many European countries.

You don't need air conditioning in Germany :) It's waste of money. Most of the places I visited where it gets really hot in summer like Italy or Spain do have air conditioning.

Something else, Europeans are not lazy, that is a wrong stereotype. I didn't noticed that people here have a better work ethic....

  11. Big companies had their tax cuts before but I havent seen them investing in new technologies, tax cuts should go only on money used for investment not for profit sharing. Managers here give them self 400 times more money then ones in Europe. Pure greed.

I agree about public transportation. There was an issue about puting the Washington metro all the way to the Airport, federal goverment wasnt sure if they would want to finance that but public transportation=less people using cars=need less gass=demand goes down=gas prices go down.

If all non defense spendings are cut down (McCain) I dont think well see much of a public transportation.

  12. It is hard to advocate for either side to support tax cuts during a time of war or significant military operations. Taxes can be cut, in theory, for anyone right now and for years to come. The only problem is somewhere down the line the rising annual defecit and overall budget defecit of between $8-9 billion is going to continue grow. It would be great to have tax cuts, wouldn't it? But, at what expense? And what about future generations, like Mr. Big Dog was referring to?

It's hard to acknowledge paying for a "needed" war from cutting spending on domestic programs such as education, highway repairs, park services, medicare, unemployment benefits, etc. Sure, some domestic programs that are ineffective (possibly No Child Left Behind Act) should be cut or at least modified. But to cut those programs to fund a war that most Americans disapprove us doesn't make sense. And no, this isn't the liberal left talking. This is both sides of everyday Americans talking.

Domestic cuts such as for education make it harder for the not privileged to afford college education. I can only imagine an America where these kinds of programs were done away with and my kids will hopefully not be a part of it.

I agree with you  Although every country has its advantages and disadvantages I noticed some difference between Europe and US. For example, first time in my life I have seen a homeless person when I came here, and I was surprised how many criminal justice study programs there is. In Europe study programs in Environment Science are very popular. But I have to much of a European way of thinking

  13. Republican White House candidate John McCain will promise on Tuesday to lower corporate tax rates if he wins the U.S. presidency.

    ...

McCain will pledge to act quickly to lower corporate taxes from "the second highest in the world to one on par with our trading partners to keep businesses and jobs in this country."

    http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/080610/usa_politics_mccain.html

I don't know where McCain gets his information but corporate taxes in US are not the second highest in the world. Most of European countries has corporate taxes between 30 and 40%. Instead lowering taxes they should give tax brakes or something on invested money only.

Anyway, I agree that corporations shouldn't pay high taxes but they've been far behind in investing the money in new technologies and other sources of energy, they rather give more profit to shareholders. If they where smart they would make a lot of money today on a high fuel efficiency cars and not loosing money on SUV and Trucks they can't sell. Pure ignorance.
