by my calculations, thats 43 days from the issue date of the NOA to the issue date of the card

Congrats!!! My husband got his AP approved and his EAD card ordered today too! Yay!

Did you have many touches on your application before those were approved? We have had about 5 on the 485, but nothing on the other two. Also, no touches since Friday

I have had 3 touches in a row on my AOS too. Wonder what that means. I can't see AP or EAD online.

My case was transferred to CSC on Feb 29.

Are most K-visa holders exempt form the AOS Interview? I read the following in another thread:

"Yes one advantage of adjusting from a K-Visa, is the odds of not having to interview for AOS is good, however if you adjust from a visitor's visa, the odds of getting approved without an interview is low. They almost always interview for adjustment from a visa other than a K-Visa."

My interview was on Wednesday (morning) and I picked up the Passport from VFS on Friday evening!

My hubby had his interview on Friday and got his passport with visa stamp the following Tuesday (by courier, to Hyderabad).

INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE:

7:45 am : Reached Chennai Consulate (for 9 am interview)

8:30 am : Allowed inside

8:50 am : Reached the Immigrant Visa Section

9:45 am to 10:00 am : Interview with an Indian Consular Officer at Counter 11

He had all the documents that I had submitted at the VFS Office 2 weeks ago. He said he has all the documents he needs except my Interview Letter, Medical Report and Demand Draft. I gave these to him.

He asked me:

Have you traveled / lived outside India?

Please tell me briefly, very briefly, how you met him.

What kind of a masala dosai is that? (He was looking at the photo with the 4-foot rocket masala dosai and laughed.)

He said "everything looks good, all the best" and gave me a token number for my next interview.

11:30 am : Final Interview with an American Officer at Counter 10

The officer first handed back all original documents to me along with the visa fee receipt and a brochure that said "Welcome to the US ..."!

He then asked me to take an oath that I will tell the truth / have provided the correct facts. He also took fingerprints of my both my index fingers.

Officer: What were you doing in Country V?

Me: Father worked there.

Officer: Do you understand that you have to get married within 90 days, if not you have to come back to India?

Me: Yes, I understand that.

Officer: Ok, everything is fine. Your Passport will be couriered to you within 4-5 days.

Me: Thank you.

Officer: Just so that you know, you can have only one valid US visa at any point. With K1, you will be Adjusting your status in the US. We have cancelled your existing B1/B2.

Me: Ok, thank you.

11:45 am : Came out of the Consulate, Yay!!!

Altough the PCC is valid for 1 year from date of issue, it has to be valid for 6 months at the time of the interview (for Chennai Consulate ... pls check with your consulate about their rules). Hence, the validy of a PCC is effectively only 6 months, if I am correct. Please do check this with your local Consulate.

First time I am actually writing on an Indian forum .. Got me thinking, why I didn't do it before .. I have a question..

How long is a PCC valid for? When we filed our I-129 Petition, I got the PCC (passport office) and from the Police too. This was in may 2007.. Will they still be valid or should I get more recent ones??

Yeah, 3 - 5 Business Days is what they say. But the Chennai Consulate is known to have it ready by the next day. Hence my worry. I hope there are no problems.

The law states that you cannot hold 2 US visas simultaneously. Hence, I doubt they will process 2 visas parallely. I too suggest that you just wait for your immigrant visa.

The only thing is possible that u had already had a visit visa when u were filing your case otherwise i think it is extremely difficult to get visit visa when your case is pending and it can bring suspicion in the mind of the consul officer about your case and can damage u so better to wait when u get your immigrant visa.

Agreed. I have only heard of denials of tourist visas while immigration visas were pending.

I have made copies of the medical report.

Yeah, the process keeps changing perhaps. Anyway, I checked with the Consulate and they told me that I can take the medical report to the Interview directly.

Dr. Sanjan John did not seal my husband's medical, either. We didn't have any problems or questions about that. Don't forget to make a COPY of it, you can send it with AOS paperwork here in USA! We gave our medical to the VFS office along with other paperwork (Hyderabad) and it was accepted. I don't know why he said don't give it to the VFS office, he did not tell us that. But then again, things are always changing in this process.

Dr Sanjan John (Chennai) told me the following:

1. gave me the medical report in an unsealed envelope

2. asked me not to submit it to the VFS

3. asked me to take it to the interview directly

Actually, the Consulate schedules your interview date within 1 - 3 days from when it receives the package from NVC. However, I think the busy Holiday season (Dec) is perhpas the reason why you dont have a date yet. I am sure you will get that by next week.

Chennai Consulate schedules an interview immediately after receiving the packet from the NVC, but they don't inform you.

I emailed them last night and they did email me back this morning..They said interview could be sometime in Jan/Feb 2008..so, radkri you are right..it may take about 6 weeks..

I'll email them in about 2 weeks to find out the actual date..

You should hear from the Consulate within the next week. They usually schedule an interview so that you have 6 weeks time to prepare the docs, etc. You could expect a late Dec / Early Jan interview Date.

My petition was sent to Chennai consulate last week and am wondering how long would it take before they assign an interview date...

Does the consulate release monthly interview schedule on the first(of every month) or prior?

My Father's name in my Birth Certificate is not spelled correctly ... it ends with 'um' instead of 'an'.

Is that an issue? Thanks.
