  1. My fiance and I are in the process of the K1 visa. He is from Jamaica. I recently discovered (thanks to this forum) that the medical exam would consist of a drug test and that THC would cause him to fail medical and be denied the visa/ given a one year ban. I also have learned that he will be asked "Have you EVER smoked before?" by the doctor, and if he admits to past use, he could still be banned for a year even if he passes the drug test.

I'm looking for people who have had a similar experience in Jamaica to tell me how they responded to The Question, and how it worked out...

Has anyone admitted, in some capacity, to past use and NOT been banned? If so, what exactly did you say?

On the other hand, has anyone ever responded "No, I have never ever smoked," and been determined to not have been telling the truth? What happened? I heard they can decide this based on your appearance alone, and my fiance is rastafarian, has locs, and cavities :(

I'm not looking for anyone to laugh in my face and tell me that because he smokes weed he is a "substance abuser" who deserves the ban. That's a standpoint that is culturally insensitive, outdated, classist, racist, and cruel. I'm also aware that it's federal law. If you're still confused, yes I believe the federal government has policies that are culturally insensitive, outdated, classist, racist, and cruel. Moving on.

It's true that a one year ban isn't the end of the world, but I am giving birth to our child about 2 months after when his interview will be, so for me, if it's at ALL possible to get him here without a ban, that's what I want to do.

Any insight is appreciated. Thank you.
