  1. My husband is visiting family in Morocco. We didn't get an airport visa for him when he flew through Paris, and he was almost stuck there. The French consulate here told me he needs an airport visa and he can get one in Morocco.

    Two questions:

    1. How much does the airport visa cost if he buys it in Morocco? (French consulate in Morocco has given different answers)

    2. I read that he doesn't actually need one since he's just changing planes in Charles DeGaulle since he already has a green card, but since they gave him such a hard time GOING to Morocco, we are afraid to chance it. Anyone know what the actual regulations are? Also, the airport is VERY big and he had to take a train from one part of the airport to another which is why we think they gave him such a hard time.

  2. Hello. We are about the send the I-485 and my husband had his medical exam in Morocco. He turned over the envelope when he was admitted to the country which I know is supposed to go to immigration so he doesn't have to do another medical exam; however, I did ask him if he got vaccinations when he did his medical stuff. He said he did but we don't have a copy of what he actually received.

Do we need to get all the vaccinations again for him as listed on the I-693, or does anyone know if Morocco gives all that's required? We don't want to wait around trying to track down the information so we're thinking of having him just get all again, but it'd be nice to know if he needs them or not.

  4. Hello. My fiance arrived here on May 31st, 2008 and we are required to marry within 90 days; however, I had some medical issues and family issues I needed to take care of so we are now down to the wire with about 10 days before the end of the month. We will apply for the marriage license tomorrow but we would prefer not to do the ceremony until Tuesday, Sept. 2nd.

My question: Can we take an extra few days past the 90 day time limit? It is for a VERY important reason.

  5. I gave my friend all the information. Unfortunately she was sad because it seems pretty clear that surrogacy is haram. However after talking to a few Muslims I know, I was told that haram comes in degrees, meaning that one sin is not necessarily the same as another. I'm sure hardliners (like the hardline Christians I know) would say a sin is a sin, but from what I've heard, if something is haram but it's not harming anyone, and one might ask God to understand in the day of judgement, it may still be possible for her husband to accomodate her desires.

Also, from what I've heard, most Muslims (at least men) have done haram acts, like watch pornography, or masturbate, or drink alcohol, especially from the more liberal Islamic countries (like Egypt, though I'm sure masturbation is done in even the strictest of societies and that's considered haram too). I hope I'm not offending anyone here by saying this; I'm mostly just reporting what was told to me.

I told her that she should not force the issue with her husband, but try to see if she can ease him into the idea soon. He's still new to all this medical technology even though he's been here for some time.

  6. Hello. I have a friend in New York who is newly married to an Egyptian man. He's been in the country for 10 years and is a practicing Muslim.

Here's the question: She cannot become pregnant but she wants to do invitro fertilization with a surrogate. They had already talked about adopting but she feels he also wants a baby that's biologically his. When she told this to her husband he said that it was Haram (spelling?). She told him that the baby would be created from her eggs and his sperm, but the baby in the surrogate process is carried by another woman who delivers the baby. She doesn't have any relation to the surrogate (not a sister or relative).

He told her that the baby would have the blood of the surrogate and it would therefore be against the religion for him to do that because he'd have to be married to the other woman to do that. As you can imagine, my friend was very distraught by this information. They decided to consult an emam to ask since this is all modern technology and of course the Koran couldn't explicitly refer to this procedure.

Any suggestions on how she can find information on this? I think she needs to talk to someone knowledgeable about the Koran but also educated enough in Western medical practices to get a valid opinion.

  7. My fiance just arrived three days ago and I'm pretty sure he had "the blonde." He did the interview, got normal AP and then got called back 5 days later, I'm happy to say. Actually, she did not ask nor do anything unfair, that is, out of the range of reasonable but she did talk about personal things with my fiance. I don't know about all that talk that the visa is approved or not before you get there because so much changes in the 9 months or so that you wait for the interview, but maybe it does. Anyway, when I put the packet together I didn't really know what I was doing so I guess that they must have taken some of the documentation in to consideration at the interview.

She looked very carefully at all of the phone records and I told my fiance to be sure to place the photos of our engagement party (including photos of my mother and his mother in Morocco together) on top of all the other papers and facing the interviewer when he went up to her. She asked about all the information in the original application, including information on my former spouse.

Don't freak out (like I did) before you know what kind of AP he gets, if he gets AP. You can tell him to email you exactly what it says and then ask on the site what that means. There is a good posting on this where the person was kind enough to color code everything. Good luck!

So I have been reading that the approval of the visa happens before the interview and it depending on the interviewer you get could mean approval or denial or ap hell.

Exactly who does what? I have heard horror stories about a blonde...

Im a little freaked out. My fiance's interview is on the 19th and he is curently at this very minute he is at his medical exam.

Should i warn him about the blonde? What signs should he look out for? I know we have plenty of "proof" and every one tells me that we will be fine and some people tell me he will get his visa right away.... how do they know this?

    omg Im so freaking confused.

  8. Hello everyone! I'm so happy to write that my fiance got his visa, sold his car the next day, and entered the country 2 days later! He would've come that Friday but I told him he had to spend the last Friday with him mom before he left. His family was sad for him to leave but happy for us to start our new life together. I'll post information about his interview in a different post for all those going through Casa who have to read it all (just like me).

Here's my question: Do we have to get married before he can apply for the EAD so he can work here as soon as possible? I know we have 90 days now but we'd like to plan something so I was hoping we'd have about 2 and 1/2 months before marrying but obviously I don't want to hold up the paperwork, which I don't know where to get or how to fill it out.

This site will tell me all I need to know I'm sure as I've relied on it so heavily since we began this process.

Thanks to everyone who responded so helpfully and made me calm enough to walk through the hardest part--separation. I encourage everone else out there waiting to have faith and patience, and to be super organized and act swiftly if and when you need to. Preparedness and documentation seem to be the most important elements in bringing your loved one home.

  10. Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. My fiance just received his visa and we are together now in the U.S. He got here 3 days ago and it's a dream come true. I'm still in shock that he actually made it here!

I know how you must be feeling! Best wishes to you and your husband.

  11. So it's been almost 10 days since I left and I am really missing the Algerian, moroccan music my husband listened to. I have an I-pod that he downloaded music too but can't sinc with my computer cause it's a "different library" and unfortunatly the music on there isn't all titled so is there a place on line I can listen and download music??? Anybody Anybody?? Bueller Bueller (lol)

Live365.com has a Berber Moroccan music station. I haven't seen another one like it. I listen to it sometimes to remind me of the trip I made to the Sahara with my fiance. Go to the site and use key word Berber or Moroccan.

  12. My fiance received the 221g from his interview in Casa from the blonde lady. After reading several posts, I am clueless as to whether I need to start fighting this now, contacting senators, etc or if I am supposed to just wait until he gets a phone call first.

He did great on his interview, had all proof she asked for, and there was only slight confusion over one question which he was able to explain.

Also, is it true that they will call him to get a visa, but only send a letter with no phone call if the answer is no? I am in Casa with him now and need advice badly as to what to do next.

    Please help!

What does the 221g notice say? We can't help you in the dark.

Generally, you follow the instructions on the notice, precisely.

It says: Your case requires additional addministrative processing. We require nothing further from you at this time. We will contact you by phone as soon as we are able to continue with your case.

Those are the remarks under the 221g box that is checked.

  13. There are different types of 221g's. They might want more info, they might have him on AP (administrative processing) or they have sent it back to the CIS. The first 2 I mentioned are not much to worry about but if they send it back to the CIS you are in for a fight. This is why it is important for you to tell us exactly what the notes they made say. We want to make sure we guide you in the right direction.

Yes, I believe he is on AP right now. I will check it out at the hotel asap.

  14. I believe the paper they gave him says something about requiring additional processing. In any case the interviewer said the papers are not going back to Washington as of the interview, he just has to wait. The definite response was that the paper they gave him did not say that the papers were going back to the USCIS. She said it was going through an inquiry, if I got the word right in Arabic.

She did NOT ask him for 134 sponsorship document.

  18. Hello. My fiance just received his packet from Casa and I have a few questions:

    1. What should we expect to pay for everything including the doctor's visit, vaccinations, translations of documents, etc.?

    2. What forms come in this packet?

    3. What forms in this packet do I, the petitioner, need to sign or fill out?

    4. What original forms should I provide to him?

    5. Is it better for me to be at the interview with him? Will they allow me to go inside with him?

    6. Is there anywhere I can find a copy of the forms he was sent without him having to pay to fax it to me internationally?

    7. Any other information I should have?

    Thanks.
