  1. I think her best shot (perhaps her only shot) would be a tourist visa.

I don't think you can sponsor her, and I think Madhu won't be able to until he is a citizen. But I would ask your question on the forum about Bringing Family Members to America (or even in Off Topic). South Asia just doesn't get much traffic, and it's not a region-specific question, at least not at the outset...

And you could also ask what other forms of proof she might be able to show the Consulate that indicate she is likely to return to Nepal after her visit to the US... I believe their primary concern will be that she is not intending to use a tourist visa to immigrate. A letter from you and Madhu may be helpful, from what I've read.

And with the baby due in 2 months, I'd hustle... I don't know how long it takes to get a tourist visa, but as you probably know, very few things in Nepal move quickly...

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Thanks Maya! You are the best!

  2. Namaste mero satthi-haru!

I thought I would revive the Chautara in honor of another approval from Nepal...

Congrats to xochitl (Angie and Deepak) on a successful interview, and wishing Deepak a safe journey to the US and a smooth POE experience!

Yay! that is wonderful! I have a question. The baby is almost here (March 21st) and my husband's mother really wants to come over and help with the baby. However, we are still in the AOS phase of things and I am not sure if we can get her here. Is a visitor visa realistic for an older woman without property who doesn't speak a lick of English. Can we sponsor her? Madhu isn't a citizen yet and I don't know if I am considered family by the USCIS.

    Thanks again!

PS Its a boy! I am leaning towards calling Milan.

  3. Hi everyone,

I havent been on here for awhile and thought I would say hi. THings are going great so far! We got married in Vegas (sans Elvis) in August. It was a short but sweet wedding. My family adores him too! We took an amazing cross country road trip to our new home in Seattle. The most exciting new is that we are expecting!! It's a bit of a surprise but a great surprise! We are doing the AOS thing now. I hope we get the EAD soon as we need to save money for our growing family. Any ideas for good Nepali baby names? I couldn't have done it without the support of Visa Journey and my fellow Nepal members.

    Thanks

  4. Wow, in all the all the rush to get ready (I leave TOMORROW) I missed this great news1!!!!

    Badai chha!!!!

I hope you will give details as to what questions they asked at the embassy - hopefully I will be next, though looking at how slowly VSC is moving it may not be until a year from now..... :(

Yeah!! Eat some Dahl Bhat for me!!! I could give you a whole list of things to eat! Sigh.....

He said the interview was very short and he asked very basic questions. Where did you meet? What were the circumstances of your meeting? He went over the photos and asked him where they were taken. He wanted to know the details of who was in the photos, where, when etc... He also asked him what makes me laugh. He told him that I always laugh when he dances! It's true! The interviewer had quite a chuckle at that. He also wanted to know when we spoke last and what we talked about. Madhu told him that I told him not to be nervous and just tell the truth. He really liked that answer and he told him that he was approved!!! He is getting his visa Thursday. He is going to be here in 2 weeks!!! My family and roller derby team are sooo excited to meet him. He is even going to see me in a game! I hope the derby girls don't scare him! :star:

  5. Ugh, I was so happy that we got approved in a relatively timely manner but its been almost 3 weeks and my fiance has yet to receive package 3. I e-mailed a letter to the embassy and also gave them my fiance's new number. I haven't heard a thing. I have tried calling but it just ends up sounding busy. My fiance has also called numerous times and runs into the same thing. Can he just go the embassy (its a 6 hour bumpy bus ride) and inquire about it? He is under the impression that you need permission or some sort of appointment to even enter the embassy. We are so close and I am looking forward to completing the process soon. I am feeling frustrated. Sigh....lets hope it happens this week.

  6. Hi,

I just had a quick question concerning the DS-156. On question #36 it asks, "Has anyone ever filed a immigrant visa petition on your behalf?"

Does this question only apply to American visa petitions or any at all? My fiance was previously in another relationship with an Australian. An approved visa petition was issued for Australia but he turned it down. If I have to say yes will it hurt our chances? I appreciate any advice on the matter.

    Thank you so much!
