Let`s say, a naturalized US citizen gives a birth to a child overseas (not a military or such). What`s the legal US status for that child?
-
As for just not having a job and having money in the bank you would be fine, but I'm just thinking that's what they're wondering if you are somehow working on the black market...
Oh, ok, I have explained her that I don`t work right now for medical reasons (bad back), but if they want to check my tax returns for all years I`ve been in the country, I paid them in full.
-
I had my naturalization interview 2 weeks ago, everything went ok (or so I think), passed all question, got letter with "congratulations" mark after the interview. An officer didn`t like that I haven`t been employed for a year now, but I am not receiving any government help or such, still, she was kind of suspicious on how do I support myself. She wrote something long under employment section. Could it be a problem for approval?
I still haven`t received a letter about the oath ceremony, have to make a trip...Aproximately how long in advance do they send the oath letter?
-
and the office said that I should be able to make the September 12th Oath Ceremony, all he had to do was get final approval on my application.
That was nice of the officer...
Anybody else has a timeline?

I have just talked to an officer about if jeans are ok, and he didn`t recommend that. He said I should be wearing a dress or a suit. Bummer... Need to loose some pounds before my nice clothes can fit me
-
No jeans? It probably depends on the state of the jeans. Good dressy ones, no rips or abrasions, maybe the trouser style ones, ought to look fine with an appropriate shirt or jacket. That's probably what I'll wear for the interview.
Are you serious? I would love to wear jeans as I fell more comfy in them. I wouldn`t mind wearing a nice jacket (something like white linen one) and nice shoes with the jeans, but not sure if it`s ok. I am in FL.
-
Guys, how about what to wear for the interview? I understand no jeans, but is it no open toes or anything like that?
-
I was looking over the invitation letter, and saw THAT listed under "You MUST BRING the following with you to the interview", but I am not sure what exactly "evidence of selective service registration" is. Also, if I filed N-400 on 5-year residence base, but was married to USC, do I have to bring marriage licence/divorce paper?
-
Another question has just arise in my head-if I`ll be able to take the oath right after the test, do they give the certificate the same day? If not, I`ll be the citizen, but returning to the US with I-551 stamp-I guess that`s a problem already...I guess if they don`t give certificates after the test, taking the oath isn`t the option...
Anybody, please clearify it for me as I don`t really want to call misinformation line.
-
I have to buy a ticket now to go overseas for medical reasons. My test is very soon, and I have no idea when the oath will be scheduled. I am afraid that the oath might be scheduled at a time while I am overseas (I`ll be there for a month). What`s my options, and what`s the best to do?
-
Make sure you known your file and and all the documents you may have entered back in the days.
It was a hell of a ride....
I can relate to the hell ride as my I-751 was pending for over five years just because some person at USCIS didn`t like me...Anyways, I`ll look at all facts I have entered in N-400, they should be the same ;-) I filed on 5 year residency base, not as a spouse of USC, maybe these interviews not that complecated.

It depends... My husband interview(12/04) did not go well. He finnally received his oath letter at the end of june 2007. He was swear in july 04,07. FRom begginning to the end the all process took close to 3 years: N 400 mailed out july 19, 2004.... he became an american July 04, 2007.
Good luck
May I ask what was the problem during the interview?
-
First is if they even offer it, many don't. Another is if they do offer it, do they have space at all? Another is dependent on your interview itself. For instance mine was a week early before my 3 year marriage PR. So I couldn't be sworn in officially for one more week so even if they did offer it, I wouldn't be able to. Also your interview might still need review so you would have to wait for others to look over your details even though you passed the initial interview etc...
I see. As far as time, I could of been USC almost 2 years ago, but they have delayed my I-751 for over 5 years...I just wondering how many and what circumstances took they oath right after the test.
-
Anybody knows what it depends on?
-
It's just like a high school/college graduation, without the robes and silly hats.
Yeah, I remember that B)

It sounds like Denver is a smaller city than the one you live in. There weren't that many people when I had my ceremony and they even had it in the Immigration offices, very icky. But oh well, beggars can't be choosers.
I think hers was at a college or something like that, she said it took 4 hours. I though they sen certificates in the mail, and she said that they gave them theirs right there. Did you get yours at the ceremony?
-
It depends on the local center you are going through. Denver has 2 ceremonies a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Check your local office to find out when you might have your ceremony.
Are you serious? Just 2? I have a friend who had the ceremony in January at the same office where I`m going to take the test. She said there was two groups of people-one st 8AM, another one-in the afternoon. She told me that the crouds were huge. I don`t want to wait again to get the certificate

If you are able to be his sponsor (form I-864, Affidavit of Support), then yes, he can be legilized. There is a 1,000 fine (form I-485) under section 245(i) for your case.
This is only an option if a petition had been filed for him prior to the cut-off date which was April, 2001
I personally know a couple, where they used 245(i) in 2003. Pretty much the same situation they had. The major question how did her boyfriend entered the US-legally or not.

How long is the process between the test and receiving the certificate?
-
I got a letter requesting me for the interview. It was generated a week after I went for fingerprints. Does it mean that I was checked, or they still doing interviews before background check is comleted?
-
As far as the swearing in ceremony, that requires a Judge, and may not be so easily accommodated.
Huh, then how some take oath right after the interview/test?

I wouldn't trust the mis(information) line too much...every time I called they ALWAYS gave me wrong info!
Is it the new Weather Channel now?
Children born outside of the US to Naturalized US Citizen

So, even if the parent and the child are palnning on staying in that country for several years, it won`t affect the child`s right to come to the US whenever? How about documentation for that child, meaning how that child can enter the US, I assume the Birth Certificate is not enough and applying for the US passport overseas is not the option? Correct me if I am wrong, please.
