A lot of women are afraid of their children not being Egyptian and having Egyptian rights when they marry foreigners. Do you not think they should work on this problem? A lot of these women don't want to marry "older men" and men "older enough to be their dads, and grand dads" and we really can't be that naive to think "only true love" brought our husbands here. I know we don't want to hear that. I'm not saying that they don't love us; but we are used to certain liberties here and will not stand for anything less. We, well most of us speak up for what we stand for, we speak up when something is going right for us. To men, all women are nags, and we hear American men saying it to us all the time. How so, men from Egypt. Do you think they want to hear us talking(but to them nagging) all the time? No!

I'm Muslim, and wouldn't deny my husband another wife. I see (unofficial) polygamy practice all over the America. I see so many married men and single ladies dating. Why is that? Why don't they just be men and tell their wives they want another women? Why cheat and lie? Don't believe this one. Post on Craigslist and ask for a MENA man. I swear, I've seen a friend make up an e-mail and posted that she wanted an Arab boyfriend just to see how many responses she would get. The box was full.

So the spouses are here and reality about the streets paved in gold is in front of them. Let's here the stories! Good, bad, funny, sad.

One guy told me after almost two years his wife is always threatening to go back to Africa. He offered to stay there with her but she wanted to come here, now she hates it here, misses her family. You might ask why doesn't she go back if she hates it so much. Her husband won't let her go just yet; because he warned her live being difficult here, and he made her promise to stay for 10 years.

It's funny to us, but some people really do think the streets are made from gold. LOL!

Well I experienced something that really hurt me.

My kids (they're twins) are from a previous relationship and they are 3 years old. Thier father is half Puerto Rican. And if you didn't know, Puerto Ricans are US Citizens anyway.

Basically, I had a picture of my kids hanging up at work and one of my co-workers said "whose kids are these? we dont have any mexicans working here." and started laughing. I almost got fired for what I said to that person. Fortunately my manager saw my side of things.

Other times, people ask me if I'm babysitting or if my kids are half black. If they were, would it matter????

Why is it so important to distinguish WHAT they are. They're kids. They're American kids.

It's very disheartening and it's sad that people are so narrow-minded.

My husband entered at JFK on 10/06/08. He wasn't finger printed. He wasn't questioned. He gave them the envelope and waited while they looked in it. They called his name, they put the I-94 in his passport. They gave him 6 months (instead of 90 days) and totally ignored his questions about the Temp EAD. He was out in the main terminal in 30 minutes. 3 minutes with the Immigration Officer total. After that he went to take his bags and they didn't even open them... Very uneventful...

Still mourning the lack of a Temp EAD... He's so bored I think he is going to wear out the carpet pacing... Sometimes I think the immigration processing might be the easy part...

About sharing your wealth: For a Muslim we have zakat and sadaqah so I will not answer any more "selfish" questions about giving your money to lazy, crack heads, etc., because I don't know what you are trying to say. A lot of lazy family members live in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and you give to them on a regular basis. When I visit those places I always see the men outside either smoking, or just hanging out. I would see patients with children who didn't visit them, and one part of me felt sad, but one part of me didn't. That's the way they raised them. Allahu Akbar! I went to have a talk with my Congressman about three weeks ago; now my husband's visa(K-1) is ready for him and now we are waiting for them to send his passport back.

Now, don't think this was easy. We filed in July/Aug 07 he interviewed in April 08. They asked for his passport in July08, and basically sat on it until the threats came from me. I was serious about it. I was willing to sue, because why did they ask for the passport if they was just going to sit on it?

It's a shame how stupid they act in Egypt. Yes, I'm not typing wrong, he is my husband. We got married Islamically when it was not legal to marry without US permission.

I admit I complain about America; but you know, I catch myself so much and thank Allah, I don't have to be involved with the craziness called "Egyptian government" I love the average people living there and feel sorry for them.

May Allah take La Husseine La Mubarak away and his troops; in'sha'Allah. People want freedom and they want to breath.

I pray for each and everyone of us going thru this bull #######.

If you are waiting from the summer of last year. Please go and see your congressman/senator; because it's no reason you should be waiting this long, when people came months later than us, and their husbands are here and we are still waiting for K-1.

This is really un-necessary for such a long wait from Cairo. Oh, my congressman will be getting a call and letter from me. You have some people who came months after us, yet their husbands are here now. I understand Qadr of Allah(swt) though. Everything is for a reason.

I read on here a long time ago about the way the Embassies work once the Congressman/Senators are involved. Can someone please give me the link here. I can't seem to find it anywhere. It was from a former worker, who said something about what cases get worked on first.

I'm praying for everyone. Certain names Usama, ibn Laden(yes from Egypt) gets to go thru all this bull for no reason at all. We are all now, guilty by names now.

Mohammed, Usama's, Laden aint going anywhere so I guess we wait. I'm just so upset right now.

The Quran was not written by "a man" and the question was "is pork haraam?" and"IT IS". I mean we can say what we want as far as "our husbands respecting us, and it's true a couple should respect each other. Go to a Jew, and ask if it's okay to eat pork. Go to the bible and see if it's written about not eaten pork. It's written in the bible, yet, people insist on insulting Muslims for us noting eating pork.

We dont have any pork products in our home - I am from a southern family so I grew up with ham, bacon, and/or salt pork in EVERYTHING. But actually I really dont miss it at all, and less so over time when I learn more about commercial hog farming. YOu can find decent enough substitutions for most recipes if you search around a bit.

I'm just interested if anyone from Egypt is awaiting visa because of AR, or AP review still since summer of last year?

My hubby arrived in May 2008 and from the time we filed until he arrived I never had a problem with the Egyptian embassy. They answered within days of our emails..my husband even emailed at the same time and we both received answers to our questions. Not detailed but specific enough to assist us.

I'm sure others have had different experiences but I have no special contacts there or special treatment...they just did their job. So insha'allah, they will be the same with you guys! Not sure if it makes a difference being from Alex and my hubby from Cairo? Who knows.....I'd assume not. One more thing, the embassy website for interviews was updated regularly when we were waiting. That was my experience and that of two of my other friends. So I'm hoping they have not lost that momentum! There is a new ambassador as of this year (2008) perhaps she is the reason.

Well, right after we received the same message (prompted by my email) they issued my husbands visa 3 weeks later. After this email, I did call NVC to find out the date the visa was issued then I emailed the embassy back to say, that NVC had told me they issued the visa on (date), what was the status? And I kept on with an email each week...LOL. Perhaps we are not a typical case but emailing back and forth can't hurt...especially armed with new information from NVC.

Sorry! for the lack of participation on this board. I'm not a well person, I stay sickly a lot, damn chronic illnesses. Yuck!

I filed the last day before the fee increased last year. His interview was in April 08; and now I'm getting "his visa will be issued, and be sent by DHL e-mail replies.

I guess this means he will get it shortly, inshaAllah. I've waited all this long time, I'm not trying to stress myself out more worrying about waiting 2 to 3 weeks.

I swear I look at the timeline and always say I will file it out. Anyone who suffers chronic asthma knows that it's just to tiresome to breathe, let alone type.
