My wife didn't have a problem getting back into the country with the green card with the missing fingerprint, but the customs officer told us to contact USCIS and get it taken care of
I made an appointment through infopass and went to talk to an immigrations officer. She said it was an error on the part of USCIS and told me to file form I-90. I am still waiting on USCIS to send us a new card. I didn't have to pay the fee of course.
hi hi,
I got the same problem as you did, no fingerprint on my 2 yr green card... So did you contact the infopass? It'd so helpful to share with us what happened, since there would be many people have the same problem.
Thank you in advance!

Hello,
My wife received her 10-year green card a few months back. We just noticed that on the card, instead of an image of her fingerprint, it says "Fingerprint not available." Is this okay? We are set to leave for our vacation in a few days outside US. I hope this won't be a problem.
Thank you for any response.
Best,

If I am not mistaken, I think it says on the envelope "not to forward".
Are you keeping your current address when you go on the temp assignment? If you are, then can't you have someone get your mail and forward it to you?
Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I just need someone to check my mail once in a while and keep it while I am away. I thought about doing a "mail hold" at the post office, but the limit on that is 30 days.

Hello,
I think I read on this forum somewhere that the post office will not forward mail from USCIS. Is this true?
I filed with VSC in August 2008 and was transferred to CSC in Mar 2009. I am still eagerly waiting for the 10 year GC. My wife and I will be going to California on a temporary assignment for 3 months.
Do I have to do a change of address with USCIS for those three months, and then change it back to my current address when I return home? I don't think I have a choice, if mail forwarding is not an option.
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Best,
Jin

It is a good idea to keep your status so file early enough to allow the USCIS to process the extension NOA for you. That is why they recommend looking to file once you get inside the 90 day window.
Thank you very much for all your replies. I will try to file the petition as early as possible.

When my husband went through his POE he was given a half sheet of paper and it had the date of his POE and it is marked for him to file 90 days before his greencard expires. I would try and have the petition sent in to prior to the green card's expiration.
Thank you very much for the quick reply.
To clarify my question... Would it be okay for me to file the I-751 ONE WEEK before my wife's green card expires? As explained above, it will be tricky for me to file the petition 90 days before expiration.

Hello,
I am a US citizen and my wife has her conditional green card which expires toward the end of August.
Our window of when we can file I-751 petition is a little tricky. We live on the East Coast, but we will be in California for the summer (May - beginning of Aug) due to my work.
I am considering waiting until middle of August (when we will be back on the East Coast in our home) to file the I-751 petition. Does USCIS look at the postmarked date on the petition to determine if the application is on time? OR Does the petition have to be processed before my wife's GC expires?
I'm concerned about filing the petition during my temporary stay in California, but at the same time I do not want to cut it too close to the expiration date.
Thank you in advance for any advice.

Hello,
I have been in Korea for almost 2 years. I am a permanent resident, and I have a re-entry permit that expires in July 2008. But I actually left the United States in May 2006.
Do I need to get back to the U.S. by May 2008 so that I am not out of the country for over 2 years, or can I stay abroad until July 2008 since my re-entry permit is valid until then?
Thank you very much for any guidance you can provide.

I don't know how long it would take. I submitted the form about a month and a half ago and still no card. But if you need to travel, you can take the receipt letter from USCIS to the Infopass appointment and get your passport stamped with something.
