  1. Hi,

I am preparing to file an I-130 application for my mother. Since I am currently unemployed, do I need to attach any additional documents or forms from my spouse to show financial eligibility at this point. If so, what forms need to filled out? I have been trying to file the online i-130 in the morning and for some reason the link is not responsive. I am not sure if its the USCIS website or something at my end that isn't working. Also, am I supposed to submit copies of documentary evidence while filing this form online or at a later on stage?  I have not filed any applications online through the USCIS website so am totally clueless. Your experience and advice is highly appreciated. Thanks

  2. Dear friends,

I am almost done preparing the documents to reapply for my mother's I-130.

Now, Since I am currently not working and taking some courses, would I need my wife as a co-sponsor to sign any forms or submit any documents while filing the I-130. I was assuming that would come at a later stage once the I-130 is decided upon. I came across certain questions where, I am being asking about my employment and wanted to seek advice here at visajourney before submitting the application. Since I have opted to file online, I want to file as accurately as possible with complete required documentation. As has been advised earlier, I am filing the I-130 and will file the abandonment Form 1407 for her previous green card subsequently.

Thank you for your input in advance.

  3. So, until the Green card is relinquished and LPR status revoked, I cannot initiate another application? Atleast that's my understanding. The US embassy has restricted its services in Pakistan(and I am assuming in the rest of the world as well) since March, due to the Covid pandemic and since my mother is presently there, she would not get an appointment to appear in person.

  4. Thank you for your input. I will from time to time return to seek further guidance. One more question. I read up somewhere that in order to re-apply for a green card, a form needs to be submitted, to acknowledge abandonment of  previous residency status. Is that necessary? Or can I simply re apply and the system will automatically pick up our situation? Thank you.

  5. Hi,

I have once again returned to my visajourney family for help...

Here is my situation. In 2015, I sponsored my mother. The entire process went smoothly and she received her permanent residency status within 8 months. She stayed with me in the US briefly, but due to a family tragedy back home, had to travel back. Since she had ended up spending more than a year in Pakistan, we assumed that her residency status would be deemed abandoned. Now, after 5 years, I plan on sponsoring her again and am a bit rusty on the process. What do you seasoned members think? Would her previous abandonment have any bearing on a new application. Is there anything else I can do to expedite the process? I was advised the SB-1 application, but we really don't have a reason to show that she was out of the USA for reasons beyond her control. Also, are the I-130's online or still paper format?

Thanks you all for valuable input and advice.
