    Hello All,

    I am not sure about the marriage registration process so I thought I will ask the forum here. If you get wedding ceremony done in India, then you go for honeymoon for couple of weeks. Then after coming back you get your marriage registered.

    > What will be wedding date entered in the forms? Will it be the date you got your marriage registered or the date the wedding ceremony is done?

    > I think you are supposed to send pictures together sightseeing etc. on honeymoon. Since these pictures will be before marriage is registered, will it cause any issues?

    They are two kinds of registered marriage in India.

    ( a ) you perform a religious wedding. And your religious wedding is registered (where your marriage date is same as religious wedding date).

    ( b ) you apply for registered marriage at register's office. There is a 30 day waiting period and marriage is registered. (in accordance to section 7(A) of marriage act).

    So, in your case all marriage pictures and etc. are valid even before you register your ceremonial marriage.

    RFE for Packet 3

    Hello All,

    I hope all is well! I was hoping that my case would be complete by end of this week at NVC! But I got an RFE.

    My wife did not have an Original Birth Certificate so as per NVC we had Affidavits of Support in Lieu of Birth Certificates prepared by her Parents/Uncle/Grandfather (3 of them). They did not mention to me that I need a letter from the local authorities as to why she does not have an original Birth Certificate.

    I wish they told me when I called them weeks and months back. I wrote back to them but if they stick to this formality, I am back to delays for a few weeks! What a roller coaster of a JOURNEY!

    Anyone else in this situaiton, any feedback, suggestions.......THANKS IN ADVANCE - PANKI

    my wife didn't have original birth certificate. We ended up getting original birth certificate from local authorities(english and gujarati) and submitted to NVC.

    Most likely you may assigned an interview date mid of May (15-25). if so, you could have your interview in July approximately.

    Anyways, I would wait until your case is completed and interview scheduled before making any travel plans.

    Hello all,

    Our case is is the last phase at NVC. I have sent out the DS-230 and AOS paperwork. My question was what is the timeline of interview gettign scheduled for her once they approce ?

    I am planning on going there to travel back together last week of Jue or first week ofJuly? Is that wishful thinking! Do you all think she will have visa in hand in 2 months?

    Sample letter for requesting Police clearance certificate (India)

    I thought of sharing the letter we used to obtain police clearance certificate in Ahmedabad Police department and regional passport office.

    Dear Sir or Madam:

    I kindly request you to provide me Police Clearance Certificate for myself, as I have to submit the mentioned document to National Visa Center, Portsmouth, NH 03801, USA. By submitting this certificate my DS-230 application can be processed and than forwarded to local(Mumbai) consulate here in India for final adjudication.

    My husband is representing myself for entire NVC (National Visa Center) process and hence, I would be forwarding this document to him. So, he can submit this document along with DS-230 application.

    Thank you for your kind consideration and quick issuance of certificate.

    will the cover letter from NVC requesting PCC be enough to obtain the PCC from the passport office? I know some people said they had to show the appointment letter.

    You would first PCC from police department and than take the same to Regional passport office, it should work.

    Since the process has changed, without submitting original PCCs one can't get an interview letter.

    Better to complete your medicals earlier. so, you can submit your medical report to VFS.

    My spouse is having her interview on May 22nd. She got her medical done couple of weeks back. So earlier the better prepared you are!

    Police Clearance Certificate in Gujarat India

    Ahmedabad provides police clearance certificates. My wife got her's from Ahmedabad police commissioners office and regional passport office.

    You are right. As per the previous link I provided, you are not required to produce anything but RPO clearance, as you just got a new passport. However, because of Dec 2007 change of Indian consulate and embassy from "Standard" Post to "Appointment" Post, NVC now collects all the civil docs, PCC, RPO cert, etc. So, you have to follow NVC's guideline and not specific consulates'. As Jigi correctly pointed out the mismatch between VFS, Consulates, and NVC, the requirements are slightly different and creates a lot of confusion (see separate thread on this: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=115809&st=0&p=1660414entry1660414).

    It does not have different guideline for people with new passports. So, to be on safe side and to avoid any RFE, I would suggest that you request PCC from both Gandhinagar and Rajkot.

    I know of at least two major cities (Ahmedabad and Baroda) that provides PCC for immigration. I know Mumbai Consulate states that there seems to be unwillingness to provide PCC on part of some other districts in Gujarat. But, I am not sure which cities/districts these are that don't issue PCC. My sister had to get one from Baroda and my nephew had to get one from Baroda and one from Ahmedabad.

    I am waiting for mine to reach me! still. With out orginal interview letter it will be hard to get things done at VFS, Medical test & entering the embassy!

    fyi,

    As soon as I got my interview letter, I scanned it as PDF file and emailed it to my wife. She took print out of it and was able to get her medical done.

    Ofcourse for VFS you need to show original interview letter.

    I-864 and DS-230 Documents / Updates

    (a) you don't need to send your naturalization certificate(photocopy) for I864. Also, if you are going to show your employment as proof and sponsoring only one person. You could use I864EZ form instead of I864.

    (B) I assume "Police Certificate – Passport City (Lucknow, UP) / Original" this is from regional passport office.

    © Photos should be US passport size 2x2.

    Does Chennai care if the marriage was arranged and it is between first cousins ...?

    is there anyway that they can come to know? Will it be a problem at all?
