  1. Hi

When I had my greencard replaced I made an appointment to see my local office and explained my situation to them. They procedded to direct me to the local post office and asked me to get proof of sending it in and then I could come back to their office for a stamp in my passport. With the stamp it will work out. Mine actually came back in 8 days but I think that was out of the ordinary. Good luck and safe travels.

    Hi AussieKat,

Thank you for your reply. Do you mean that the stamp will "act" like a green card and I won't have any problem getting back into the United States?

    Thank you very much.

    Eliette.

  2. Hi everyone,

I noticed that I have a green card error for the Country of Birth. Now I read that it takes about 6 months to get a replacement card and my unexpected overseas trip is going to be late December and early January. So it looks like I apply for a replacement card, I'll have to send back my original green card. And of course I need my green card to get back into the country after my trip. So what are my choices?

    1. Apply for the replacement AFTER my trip but have the WRONG country on my green card in the meantime. In this case, am I going to be able to get back into the US if the wrong country is on my green card?

    2. Apply for the replacement NOW but run the risk of not having the replacement green card by the time my trip is here? In this case, do they substitute it with something else so I can get back into the country?

    Please help!

    Thank you,

    Eliette.

  3. Hi there,

I received my green card in 2007 and I just noticed recently that they've entered the wrong country on it! The country is kinda under a stamp and is spelled a lot like my country this is why it took me all 4 years to notice.

I'm about to move from Florida to California in April 2012 and I know that I have to send my original green card with the I-90 for a replacement card. The thing is I'll be looking for a job in California as soon as I move there, and will need my green card. I read that it makes 3 to 6 months for a replacement card. Should I wait until I move and get a job before I send my original green card with the application? What are my options?

I also might travel to the Bahamas at the end of this month, can I do that with a green card with the wrong country on it?

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

    Eliette.

  4. Hello there,

Hubby and I got married 7 months ago I just got my green card recently. We would like to take a trip to Australia for our honeymoon. I know he doesn't need a visa but I'm from Mauritius (a country that requires a visa to enter Australia) and I would like to know if I still need a visa if I have a green card or am I considered to be a resident of USA therefore don't need to go through the formalities/visa processing that I usually do if I apply for my country? Thank you!

  5. Hi there! So how are you liking Cleveland? Kent is a smallish college town, so I'm doing some major adjusting (as I used to live dab-smack in the middle of the Metro). No more daily mall trips, no more late nights out.. But I find the peace quite relaxing - I now have more time to paint and work on my arts and hobbies. I think I've gotten quite accustomed to it, that when we went to Cleveland, I went into city-shock. We were planning on checking the area out while we were there for the Biometrics, but changed our minds and just went home immediately afterwards :P Maybe after the interview, we'll have more guts to wander and "get lost".

I love Cleveland, even though it's nothing like the big cities. I won't be working for a few months now (because I'm still waiting for my EAD) so I'm spending a lot of time doing things I enjoy: cooking, reading, internet, movies, shows. I'm even learning how to bake! When I first got here I was complaining that I won't be working for months and will be bored and won't have any income, now I just hope that I won't get used to staying home and enjoying my free time!:)

I see your interview is in a month! Best of luck to you!!!:)

To lynamon: It didn't take a lot for me to adjust because I was working here for 18months before I went back to my country for a year, then coming back here again:).

  6. Hello!!!

I've applied for my AOS and I'm still at the beginning, just had my biometrics done last week. Is any "alien" from the Cleveland area here? It would be fun to communicate on this thread and exchange experiences, great hang-out places etc etc.

    Hope to hear from you!

Hi! I'm not really in Cleveland, but my appointments are (of course) there, since I'm in Kent, Ohio. We're about.. 40 minutes' drive away. Are you in Cleveland itself?

    Helloooooo Iya!

I'm around 8 mins away from downtown Cleveland but I live in a suburb called Lakewood, which is in the East. I'm familiar with Kent but I've never been there! I see you sent your package one week before me, I just got my NOA yesterday actually. Is it your first time in the States?:)

  7. hi im just wondering if i could do this. i filed for aos last july 28th and until now dont hear from uscis about it. not even an noa. so my husband and i are getting tired coz we arewaiting for the noa to file for my ead because we only file for aos last july. so now im wondering if we could just go on and file for ead without any noa of my aos. im a k3 visa holder. thanks in advance for the reply....

Hello Pinay (are you from India? :D ),

I applied for my AOS on July 19th and I just got my NOA today (more than a month later). Please be patient and hand in there. One of the reasons that you might have to wait a bit longer than usual is because you filed right before July 30th, when the USCIS application fees almost doubled. So a lot of people were applying at that time so that they won't have to pay the new fees. I don't think you can apply for EAD before getting your NOA or Appointment for Biometrics (sometimes, the appointment for Biometrics some first I got mine 3 weeks ago, and only got my NOA today like I told you). You'll need some kind of proof that the USCIS did receive your applications so I advise you to wait for either the NOA or the Biometrics appointment.

    Good luck with everything!

  9. Hello there,

I just got a Request for Initial Evidence (I-485). It's asking for a few thing, one of them I'm not sure what it is and it's as follows:

"If using current income to meet, evidence of current employment or self-employment including a letter from each employer on business stationary, showing beginning date of employment, type of work performed, number of hours worked per week, and salary or wages paid. If you are self-employment, submit a recently dated letter on business letterhead or a business license."

Does anyone know what they are asking us? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!:)

    Regards,

    Eliette

It's pretty clear what they are asking. They are asking for a letter from your employer on company stationary:

    - showing beginning date of employment

    - type of work performed

    - number of hours worked per week

    - salary or wages paid

If you are self-employment, submit a recently dated letter on business letterhead or a business license.

Thanks a lot!!! It was a bit confusing because we've already sent the employment letter and wanted to double check if it really was what they are asking for. Thanks again!

  11. Could anyone enlighten me? What does AP stand for? I'm in a similar situation to Angelique and need to apply for my EAD soon.

    Thank you!

    Eliette

AP means Advance Parole......permission to leave the U.S. temporarily and come back!! Application forms filed by K-1's that want to travel outside the U.S. while their AOS is still pending.

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm mistaken :)

Thanks a lot MariaDane!:) That helps!!!

  12. Hello,

When I came here on a tourist visa my now-husband surprised me with a ring and said let's get married. I applied for my AOS with my maiden name and already had my biometrics done. Now I am going to apply for my EAD this week and was wondering if I could use my last name or is it better to use my maiden, since that's what I used on my AOS application? Does it matter at all? Also, if I can use my married name, is a copy of my Marriage Certificate (as my supporting doc for the name change) enough to prove that I'm going to use my husband's name? I don't have anything else (SSN/Driver's License) under my married name.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Regards,

    Eliette
