  1. Hi all,

I recently became naturalized, but had to travel to the UK for a few months. While here I'm applying for my first U.S. passport at the embassy so that I can travel back to America. I was told it should take between 2-4 weeks. However, After 10 days, i've been looking on the state.gov passport website to check on its status but it says 'application not found'. I tried phoning the hotline and they said if the application is done overseas at am embassy they can't give me an update. Has anyone else applied this way? How long does it typically take?

  2. I filed last August 2019. My original interview date was supposed to actually be Sept 25th - but I had to return to the UK a couple of weeks before that interview due to a family funeral. I didn't realize when I got to the U.S. a few days ahead of the interview that you had to be in the U.S. at least 14 days before attending the interview. So they rescheduled me for Oct 19th.

Side note - when I was in the ceremony room, the lady there told me that family and friends are permitted to attend the ceremony and if I had anyone waiting for me in the car, I could go get them. I didn't have anyone waiting outside, but if I had known I definitely would have brought my family along!

  3. Just to give everybody an update.

On Oct 19th I finally attended my interview at the San Fernando valley office. There was a bit of a delay getting seen as their computers couldn't find my appointment (it actually showed my interview as being cancelled! Luckily this was resolved). Had a very nice female officer who was very thorough with all my docs (wanted to see tax returns, proof of living together, bank statements, etc).

    Civis questions:

    - Who is the VP

    - What is the supreme law of the land?

    - When was the constitution written?

    - how many house reps are there?

    - where is the statue of liberty located?

    I can't remember the sixth!

I was approved after she went over all my docs. I was then given the option of doing a same day oath. That took place in a room next door with 5 other people. Took around 1 hour after the interview before the oath took place.

All in all, a very pleasant experience!

  4. So I decided to send a message to USCIS online, to see if I could get any more info about the interview date for my N-400 application. I applied late last August, 2019. At the moment, the estimated case completion date is set to August 2020 (this month). I got this response back:

    Quote

Your application information has been entered into the system which schedules applicants for interviews at their local Field Office.

It looks like a boilerplate response, but just want to check whether others have had any other type of message when making an enquiry to USCIS?

  5. The field office Im' supposed to be going to is San Fernando Valley (SFV) which is located at 19809 Prairie St Ste 100, Chatsworth, CA 91311. Whereas the LA County field office seems to be located at this address: 300 N Los Angeles St rm 7631, Los Angeles, CA 90012

So I'm not sure if these are considered separate field offices or if they all come under the same umbrella?

    Correct....they were never multiple choice.

No, you do not have to know all of them.

If the question is "Name one of the....." then you name only one answer; same for "Name two of the...." then you only name two.

For example, there's a question "Name two cabinet-level positions." My choice of answering is Secretary of Education and Secretary of Defense even though there are many positions in Cabinet.

Easy way is to memorize those specific answers you will use should the question is asked. :)

There are some questions where there isn't a "name one" or "name two" direction given, but where there are multiple answers.

For instance, I believe one of the questions is 'What does the judicial branch do?' and for that there are 4 different answers. Are you expected to know every single one, or just name one of them at the test?

  7. Hi all

I submitted my application and had biometrics done last August, 2019. On the USCIS website my 'estimated case completion time' has been stuck at September 2020 for the last few months, since Covid.

However, as of yesterday it DECREASED to August 2020 (this month). Is this a promising sign that an interview may have been scheduled? Or just a random glitch in the system? I can't see any messages online about an interview date yet, so Im not assuming anything just yet.

  8. I thought it might be helpful to start a thread on filers from Los Angeles. Things seem particularly slow over here.

I filed my application and had. biometrics in late August last year. My estimated case completion is set to September - but as of yet, no interview scheduled.

Be interested to hear if anyone has had any successful rescheduled interviews or scheduled interviews and, if so, what their application dates are.

  9. Technically I filed at the very end of August 2019 (28th Aug). I just wanted to see if anybody else on here in Los Angeles has had their interview yet? I'm not sure where mine will take place, but I suspect it will be Chatsworth as that is the nearest field office to my home.

Did my biometrics on 31st Aug last year. As of yesterday, the estimated wait time went down to 0, and now it says "We are taking longer than expected to process your case. You do not need to do anything at this time."

The estimated case completion is September 2020.
