  1. I'm not from the PI but I don't understand this -- is this considered to be normal? Do all American men married to Pinay women send money back to the PI on a regular basis?

I can only speak for myself and my wife, I'm married to a Pinay. We never send money to her family back in PI, we give gifts (rare) or cards on special occasions only like birthdays. And her family never asked for money or insinuated the thought at all. And no, my wife thinks it's not normal to support the family back in PI but it is a common occurrence there.

  2. Hi Guys and Ladies i have 2 questions here .

1- on Form N-400 Part 6 B. (Where have you worked(Or, if you were a student, what schools did u attends) during the last 5 years,, act... so now, i never worked since i arrived to USA but i went to schools to study some english and i Registered for (FREE COURSES) so now do i need to write this down or they meant something else)

2- On N-400 Instruction, there is a Free Number to call to order Forms. is that forms for free or i have to pay for them ??? because i called the number today and the answer machine came on and asked how many Copies do i need ?? thats why i thought maybe i have to pay for the forms any idea i'll appreciated

    Thank you so much ..

    # 2. You can download the N-400 form directly from the USCIS website for free without having to call them and wait for the form to arrive in the mail, link. But if you still prefer to call for copies, it's free. The only thing you need to pay is when you submit your N-400 application. You must include the filing fee of $675 ($595 plus a biometrics fee of $80) along with your application and required documents. I hope that helps.

  3. My wife and I only send money (or cards, gifts) on special occasions like birthdays. But my wife is planning to buy her mom's plane ticket to US when she comes here for a visit as a birthday gift from her own paycheck.

When her family in the Philippines have emergencies, they have their own funds and they never call us to ask for financial help.

  4. my 2 cents

The problem is you.. doenst seems like you have a heart to say 'no' so until you can change, she's not going to change. But if you let it continue longer, it'll be a lot harder coz you know.. the older you get the harder it is for you to change!

    good luck.

I agree. Give her (and her family) tough love. And don't give her full access (privileges) to your financial resources so she wouldn't think she has more to spare.

  5. so my hubby and i went on a tour to chocolate world, we bought a bunch of chocolates to send home and drove to fedex to have it expressed since he doesnt trust the ever doubtful postal system in the country ( he sent me a package thru united postal service once and it arrived after more than a month or maybe 2)

so i was so shocked we paid $212 for 12 lbs but he was like ok, we'll just deal with it .. and then the package arrived in effin manila and my mom was called by the local fedex in the city that they wil collect 1900 pesos for the package i was like ####### the stuff in that package would only amount to $70 why the heck would they want about $42 for tax??

has anyone ever experienced something like this? or is this one of the hocus pocus shenanigans that they have under their sleeve? does anyone know the % hey usually ask for the tax?

i did call up the toll number for fedexand they said for international packages, the country of destination may ask for tax but she said it is up to the fedex there....

and the friggin fedex people were askin my mom if the sender was her fiance since i put my husband's name there instead of mine.. i was like, was that a cue of the mentality that white people are always rich like they grow dollar bills in trees rich? it's so embarrassing...

maybe they thought that since the sender was a white guy and my parents house looked like a mansion in their eyes (ahahahha) they thought money is of no issue

It happened to us several times when my wife was still there in the Philippines and I was sending her some USA goods. She paid $100 for "tax" a few times too many, otherwise they wouldn't release her packages. Complained with fedex but apparently, they told us Philippine customs bill fedex. And now we only use LBC for sending balikbayan boxes with goods.

  6. but can he not be spared for his good record and moral character.and he actually did nothing.

although he seems pretty sick for doing this.

but i think his crime is not that big.

in plus nobody knows what he was trying to achieve.

  7. I remember asking you what job you were applying for in your previous topic. I know for a fact that it is not that difficult to find a decent job in the bay area if you are not that choosy in most industries (even with a weaker job market now compared to last year's) but you must research the company thoroughly. Be wary of companies advertising jobs that don't specify requirements, job duties or no skills required. And when a company is interested in your application and call you for an interview, ask questions after they have interviewed you.

You may also look at temp. agencies. Again, research their reputation too.

Thank you. I applied for almost any position available that I am confident enough I can perform. I applied as store associate, cashier, customer service, teller, sales associate etc.. etc.. I can't really broaden my area of search for jobs because I don't have a driver's license yet. I only have a permit and going there means I have to either take a bus or taxi (which my husband don't mind) I also prefer working at night because at least he can take me to work and pick me up in the morning.

What avenue do you use in searching and applying for jobs, i.e. submitting your resume, for these job positions store associate, cashier, customer service, teller, sales associate? Do you search jobs at the company's (that you're interested in) website or do random search in sites like Monster Job, Career Builder and craigslist?

  9. How did your fiance send you the docs, what shipping method did he use in USPS? Global Express, Express Mail are the only ones we trusted. We tried Priority Mail and the letter arrived after a month (it did leave US pretty quickly but when it got in the Philippines, that was when our problems started).

USPS is reliable, but your country's post office is not, sad to say. We have had bad experiences with Philippine Post Office. I would not recommend it to anyone because of our bad experience. Saving a few dollars is not worth the risk if you want to ship quickly and reliably, it ain't worth the headache.

  10. Me, Ash Tree (Ambition) -- extremely attractive, vivacious, impulsive, demanding, does not care for criticism, ambitious, intelligent, talented, likes to play with fate, can be very egotistic, reliable, restless lover, sometimes money rules over the heart, demands attention, needs love and much emotional support.

Wife, Lime Tree (Doubt) - intelligent, hard working, accepts what life dishes out, but not before trying to change bad circumstances into good ones, hates fighting and stress, enjoys getaway vacations, may appear tough, but is actually soft and relenting, always willing to make sacrifices for family and friends, has many talents but not always enough time to use them, great leadership qualities, is jealous at times but extremely loyal.

    We make good trees! :D

  11. I'll answer for my Filipina wife, although I'm not quite sure how it would help your cousin's thesis since my wife has the right degree and got the job using it among other credentials.

    Degree/University: Chemistry/University of the Philippines

    Recent Job: Scientist

Reason: The job is exactly what she desired and is totally relevant to her education and work experience.

  12. To my fellow Filipinos: If there was no USA, what country would you want your loved one to be from?

And to US citizens: If there were no Philippines, in which country would you look for a mate?

In my case, I'd probably get married to an Australian or perhaps stay put in the Philippines. How about you?

I am answering for my wife and I. I, being the US citizen, and the wife being the Filipina.

I did not intentionally look for a Filipina as bride, she just happened to be one. She did not intentionally seek an american or any other ethnicity who would fill the role of a husband or a provider. We had our own individual and very different lives before love struck us. We did not choose each other because of our ethnicities. We chose to marry each other because we fell in love. Later on during the long-term friendship, we discovered more about each other but they weren't the reasons why we "fell in love". I did not choose her because she's a Filipina, or thought that she'd make a perfect wife, I chose her because love made me do it. I love her for the person that she is, and not for who she is or where she is from.

So to answer your question, if there were no Philippines and USA, which country would I (or my wife) choose to look for a mate? There was no such thing with us so there woudn't be.

  13. I dont see any reason why your employer doesnt want to take your extension letter to let you keep working. The letter says clearly "Your conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year. During the one-year extension you are authorized employment and travel". If they still having any doubts about it, they may be call USCIS to ask them if it is a valid document.

To call USCIS and talk to a rep u should dial option 1,2,3

The I-9, which is used and kept by US employers, does not include extension letter in their list of acceptable documents. The Immigration Reform and Control Act imposes penalties to the employer for I-9 noncompliance.

  14. Congratulations!
