  1. Hi Nimo. May I ask about your experience with the K-1 interview process at the US embassy in Kenya? Process with medicals? Did it take long to get an appointment for the interview?

    Appreciate your feedback and insights.

Wooii getting here has been the biggest stress I have gone through.so I received my passport on 24th February n my fiance booked our tickets immediately for April 14..he was to come kenya we spend easter in kenya then we all travel to US together.I resigned from work second week of march two weeks later boom the travel ban was announced in kenya. My fiance couldn't come to Kenya n I couldn't travel either but we kept hoping our borders would be open.3months later I realized our visa are about to expire n for some reason my daughter was given 5month visa,I don't know why, though it didn't bother me when we got the passport cz I knew we would have traveled in April. So all along I have been checking U S embassy website n i noted there are evacuation flight almost every week.So mid this month I wrote an email to the embassy explaining my situation, visas are about to expire,I attached flight eticket that we had booked n told them if its possible they can help me in anyway possible to travel with the repatriation flight thats available. They replied n told me only people allowed to travel in the available flight is U S citizens, lawful permitted residents with their immediate relative with valid travel document.I waited till they posted another flight.i wrote again asking if we can be considered as immediate relative of US person since my fiance is US citizen n that's the intention of our travel. They replied n said its ok we contact the airline.By the time I was calling Qatar airline the flight was fully booked. This time I was very keen I waited they posted Ethiopian airlines leaving on 25 June..I called Ethiopian they asked if I am US citizen I said no.I was told to get approval from embassy.I wrote to them immediately they replied n said I got ahead n book the flight.without wasting time I booked the flight.I remember I did not sleep that day all this booking I was doing them past midnight. The following day we had to look for money to pay the tickets..they were damn expensive,233k per seat...I was doing all this because my daughter visa was expiring on 8 July  n she turned 21yrs old in may,so she could not qualify for reissuance of another visa..n considering K's visa are not considered critical at the moment. If I would have not managed to get her in U.S before her visa expires,it would have taken me like 7yrs to get her here..So I thank God he made it possible for us to travel.

Which visa ate u applying, fiance or spousal?

So,have you submitted DS-160 form?if yes go ahead n create an account n get to learn process to follow.I didn't get a communication to set an appointment...once I got an email acknowledging the DS-160 the rest is on your side.Be alert cz I know once they open for interview there will be a big rush n huge backlog.

Which state are u moving to?

That was some roller coaster ride but it's good you were proactive about contacting the embassy. The airlines have really capitalized on the evacuation tickets. I've been monitoring the embassy website for reopening date.

I'd even forgotten we had Easter somewhere! It feels like it's been ages.

I'm on K-1 though I wish I had known about CR-1 at the time of the petition. I would have gone for it instead.

I was to travel in May for vacation but obviously got cancelled. Waiting to see if UK opens up the country next week.

Aki thanks, your info has been really helpful. I already filled DS-160 but I haven't submitted. I'll submit it today then proceed with creating an account. I know it'll be crazy once they reopen but hoping that with the ban on some IV it won't be as bad

I'll be moving to Texas. How are you settling in? I'd like to stay in touch, if it's alright with you

Its been a a total night mare for me but am glad its over now.I have also known CR1 is the best but let's hope you make it here before end of year.,mimi niko Kansas...Be very protective on looking for interview date..for me my fiance used to wake me up at 2am to check if I can get an interview date..I remember I had even emailed the embassy asking if that system is OK cz I had tried over a month trying to check for available interview date without success..check as many times as u can..,.I think I can write a whole book about my experience...

We are settling well, its hot n humid but we are managing..next week will do court wedding n get a marriage license, get Social security card so that we can apply for adjustment of status..I wish you all the best, keep in touch.
