  1. My "husband" changed his mind about immigrating here to the US. He inially came here on a K1 visa that I secured for him but left due to some family "emergency" before we filed any papers(we were married here). We then started down the path to CR-1 and he has changed his mind yet again and now(and forever in my book) wants to stay in Nigeria. Now I need to clean up this mess. How does one file for divorce if the spouse is out of the counrty. He is making no claims to my assets, we have no children, and I have no intention of seeing him ever again.

If he were to file for divorce in Nigeria would that be legal here? This whole process was bank/budget breaking and I dont want to spend another dime on this person.

  2. Hello Everyone...

The other day I saw an infomercial (yeah I know) for the Magicjack and got curious.

This thing may work if your SO has high speed internet connection and a plug in phone. Has

anyone tried this out yet? What I wanted to do was set it up here and then send it to my

hubby and be able to talk via telephone for free...(minus the yearly cost). I saw in an OFFTOPIC

thread that folks were using it with good success. I know one drawback for us is the proof of

relationship aspect of not having a phone log to show at interview, but I'd rather like to save some cash

    also. Anyone????????

I've never hear of magic jack. But I do remember that we were talking about using VOIP services like Vonage and sending a phone and packet oversease to make the calls. That actually gives you a log of calls and it's like a local call cause you choose an american phone number. It's pretty cool. But My fiance doesn't have internet connection at home, so it didn't work for us. Several of the ladies on MENA use it. I remember JPrincess still uses it for her hubby to talk with family back home as much as he wants. If that internet connectivity thing pans out in SS Africa, I think that would be a great option for us. Right now, everyone uses cell phones.

Yeah that is a drawback for many...and even in my husbands case his service gets slow or drops him sometimes. But spending $100+ a month on phone calls is

eating away at my pocket book... and with gas prices going higher and higher if I can save 50% on phone cards then why not. I figured even if it dosent work I can use it when I travel internationally. Also initial costs are $39.95 + $6.95 s&h. $19.95 per year there after.

It' so cold now my little hubby gonna be a FUDGECICLE when he gets here.

  6. Good Morning Everyone...

    (Just thought I'd be first)

Well I so have a quick question. Mr Husband and I are getting tired of just chating online. So I thought it would be fun to play an online game like Monopoly or something. For the life of me I can't figure out how to do this. Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions. Just looking for something different to pass the time.

About the hoagie... Have you daughter get it the day before or as late as possible. Tell her to ask for no sauce or mayo (I know that's what makes a hoagie good), also have them leave it whole. then She should put the wrapped sandwich in a zipploc bag and suck as much air out as possible. If she does this your hoagie shoud be very yummy.

I did these for a cousin that moved from Chicago to Arizona and was craving from up on 115th Street. She didn't come up for air for 20 minutes.

    Have a good day YALL!

  7. Holy #######! You mean to tell me it's a REAL Delta flight from Atlanta to Lagos...and not a (pretend) code share flight!!! Sweet! Airline employees get great discounts on interline travel on most carriers...Unfortunitly North American Airlines does not have an agreement with other carriers so no employee discount and that was the last one I had heard of going non-stop. You were always stuck going through Europe....BUT DELTA!!!! A nonstop! That's good for a long weekend in Lagos.

  8. Chipas, Zainab and Zee playing in those environments must have been awesome. I don't care where children are, they always find a way to have fun.

Ladies what about the toy trucks made from cans and or large juice boxes and pop bottle tops for wheels being pulled by a handle made from a metal wire hanger. I'm kinda cheating, I have seen the kids in Jamaica pulling them. :dancing:

Mrs Chi Town (Uno) I have three words for you:

Chinese Jump Rope (with the rubberbands); Jump in, jump out, jump side to side, jump on, jump in, jump out. :P

Kick Ball with the big beach ball in the alley using people garages as the bases. :goofy:

RED LIGHT - GREEN LIGHT (need I have to say more)

    next level of

chinese jump rope, with the rubber band rope pull to your knees...ouch!; clap in, clap out, clap side to side, clap on, clap in, clap out!

wait til' the lights go out to play "hide and go seek *cough* get some"

eigth grade graduation singing "children hold on, to your dreams, believe in love, let love be the light to show the way, and love will shine on you one day"

and "super transfers on sunday", ride all day long for $.100

    "garretts" cheese and carmel mix

    Uno...

You are my sister...or I think we grew up next door to each other... I got you on all of that.....but what about Catch A Girl Kiss A Girl

  9. Well, after raising h*ll in Atlanta, New York, Washington, Lagos and, Abuja I finally got an answer. All visa payments are now to be made via www.immigration.gov.ng After navigating you way hopeless through this site you will find the site is primarily for Nigerians. Before you do anything make sure you have your picture the correct pixel size(120x140no more, no less, it will not work with any other pixel size). Next fill out the online form and upload your picture on to the form(Print the completed form before you enter). Next click on the payment key. It will request you make payment at one of the Nigerian banks listed for the amount of 4100 naira(wonder if someone over there can pay for your visa?). You cannot make a payment here... you must blindly stumble around the site to find the Google check out link. At the Google link set up an account(if you dont have one already) and pay. Then go back to the visa site to confirm they have your payment. You can also see the status of your visa...Wait you're not finish. You now have to print everything and MAIL it to the consulate or embassy of your choice. Include your travel itinerary, invite letter, copies of all the application and confirmation forms AND either $20 standard or $65 expedited processing fee. Send this to the consulate/embassy(ATL NYC, DCA). Because I hope to travel over again within 12 months I requested a multi-entry visa(I was told to write this MULTI_ENRTY VISA in bold letters accross the top of the application). They said the cost was the same as the single entry visa(we'll see). I also included a pre-paid self addressed next day return envelope. I Fed-Ex it all today so they should have it tomorrow. I'm praying that I will have the visa by the end of next week because I have to have another visa issued. Thanks for the input and I hope this helps the next person..

  10. Thanks for the input but let me clarify. I am the USC and am REQUIRED to have a visa to enter into Nigeria. In the past we would download the application and send the correct documentation + $100.00 to the consulate or embassy. The fees have increased and there is a new way to get the visas issued. You go the the website as stated previously enter the infromation and pay online. I have no sure idea what the new fess are because now I'm stuck trying to fill out the form. It REQUIRES you upload a picture from your PC, but the pixels are so tiny (100-140 height x 120-160width). I have tried dozens of times but it's not working. But wait there is a help desk phone number...IN ABUJA!!!! aaaarrrgggggg!!!!!!! If anyone has had success with this in the last couple of weeks can you let me know how you did it. Now I have tried calling the consulates in both New York and Atlanta..and the embassy in Washington. IF you can get someone to answer the phones...EVERY SINGLE TIME they transfer you to a FULL mailbox. Help please I am at the end of my rope.

Yeah my girlfriend and I thought that was what we were suppose to do. It took us hours to download the picture to find out that we didn't need to do that. I called the Embassy in DC and got a different answer. You will probably need to call. And yes it will take some time to get them but I was blessed to get them one morning early. Another thing, the website required that we purchase tickets first. By the time, I finished explaining that I shouldn't have to purchase the ticket to get the VISA, what if I didn't get the VISA. The lady told me to bring the application, correct fee, and letter of invitation. I had no problem. Keep trying to call them please. Another thing, I had my girlfriend FedEx me her passport and fee, I walked both ours into the Nigerian Embassy and got them back in three days.

Thanks for the suggestion...In checking the website today they have listed that they will not accept walk-up anymore and they refer you to they're new website. I was unable to contact them today due to a holiday so I'll try again tomorrow. I also tried about 10 times to upload a picture onto the application but no luck again... At this rate I may just cancel my trip.

  11. Hello,

I'm a little confused....you are a USC wanting to go to Nigeria? If that's the case, you shouldn't need a visa, your US passport should be sufficient.

Yes she will need a visa to visit Nigeria...Sorry, I am not sure about the price...For a USC wanting to visit Ghana they will also need to apply for a visitor's visa in Washington D.C.

Thanks but these are the old fees...I guess they didnt think to UPDATE ALL of the websites

  13. Has anyone had a Nigerian tourist visa issued lately? I called the Atlanta office and was told the visa fees have increased and that the payment has to be done online. The officer said the fee are now $220 for a single entry and $224 for a multi enrty visa. I know the visa fee have gone up around the world(for instance China visa is now $100 vs $50 for a single enrty visa) but this is a 100% increase!...Just wondering what anyone else has heard. This applies to a USC visiting Nigeria..just to be clear.

  14. Thanks for the replies...The problem was my husband was here only 3 weeks. From the first week after his arrival the family started calling saying they were about to have the family home taken away but some con-artists. No amout of phone calls could resolve the situation. His life's work was being stolen, so he had no choice but to return. We were married before his return and were unable to apply for the AOS.

  15. We were approved for a K1 visa and married per the K1 requirements. Before we could adjust status he had to return for a family crisis. Yes this was a difficult decision and I hope others never have to make this choice but it could not be helped.

Now we are faced with filing as a K3 to be re-united. I have read the guides and I'm concerned about proving a bonafide marriage. He was here so short that we were unable to establish bank accounts or other assets. No one attended our civil ceremony and we were ok with this because we had planned a large celebration for the fall. He was able to get a social security card and a state ID but nothing else. Is there somewhere I can find a longer detailed listing of things to include to support a bonafied marriage?

No this is not a case of marrige fraud just an example of how life can take an odd turn just when you have it figured out.
