I am wondering if anyone knows if Social Security Administration Offices will still book appointments for K1 holders to get a SSN if the government shuts down. My SSA office said I couldn’t apply until 10 days after I have been in the US, and I am concerned the government shutdown will postpone this, potentially until after I’m married/filing for AOS.
I know in previous shutdowns Social Security cheques were still sent out, but new applications weren’t processed. I’m not sure if SSN would fall under the same area or if they’re considered essential.
