  1. Hello,

I'm sure this question has been answered before, but I don't seem to be having much luck with the search feature.

I am getting ready to submit the I-751, and I'm compiling evidence right now. How important is it to supply two Affidavits from people who can attest to our relationship? We feel we have enough documentary proof of our relationship, but the affidavit thing seems very confusing.

Did anyone else leave this out of their application submission?

    Thanks in advance,

    Misty

  2. It's both if you do have a case pending..(I know, its confusing) I'd file it again then, call in a couple of weeks to confirm if you don't get the letter/confirmation.

In about 2 weeks, I'll be filing for lifting of conditions. Should I file then, and provide a copy of where I had submitted an AR-11 a year ago?

As I'm digging through the house frantically, I also cannot find the confirmation that should have come for my sponser, and I now I can't entirely be sure I ever even received one :(

  3. Hi folks,

It's been awhile since I've been on here. I'm at the happy inbetween place of conditional permanent residency.

    Until today. I'm freaking out.

A year ago I moved, and updated my address online using AR-11.

Today I received a reminder to file to lift conditions, and it was addressed to my old addressed. I called USCIS, and they told me to refile AR-11. But if I do that, how can I guarantee that someone will get my new form??

When I asked if I could call someone who could bring up my file, she said "no". And she was generally no help whatsoever.

    Now what do I do?

In 3 weeks I'll be applying to lift conditions, and I don't want them to deny because they never received my updated address request!

  4. hmmm... I filed an AR-11 online back in December, but never received any confirmation. I did not know that I was supposed to. My husband filed an I-865 for the affidavit, and he did receive a confirmation.

We have now moved again, and refiled the same forms with our new address. How long should I wait before checking to make sure the AR-11 was received, considering I didn't get a confirmation the first time?

  6. hmmm... now I'm really confused. When I collected EI, it was based on the fact that I was living in the US on a K1 Visa, like I've seen many other posters on here do. There was nothing secretive about that when I applied for EI... the benefits people were aware I had moved to the states, so I should think they would have taken out more taxes based on that already.

Oh... maybe I just need to call CRA... good times

  7. Thanks Trailmix!! Ok, now what if I recieved EI benefits for the first few months of 2008 while I lived in the US, what happens there?

Also, my accountant advised me to state that I moved to the US on Jan. 1st, 2008, to keep everything clean for "tax purposes". If I do this, how does that affect refunds and such? And can I still complete that form as a correction if the return was for 2007, but I say I ceased to become a resident as of the first of 2008?

Is your head spinning yet?

  8. Also, Cassie (if you are reading this)... What was your experience after having filed your NR 73? Have you already put a post on this that you can link to?

  9. Ok, I'm opening this one back up with a new question...

I moved to the US Dec. 4th, 2007.

When my accountant filed my taxes for that year, he did not fill in the info that I was no longer living in Canada, and I did not know any better to ask him about it. When my return came back, he told me to fill out form NR 73.

It seems the majority of people on here are against filling out the form unless CRA asks for it, but these same people also seemed to fill out their last tax return properly

So now what do I do?

I don't want to NOT notify anybody, but I'm sure if filling out form NR 73 is the best route either.

    Please help!!

  11. Hey everyone,

Now that I have my 2 yr permanent resident card, what documents do I need to bring to travel between Canada and the States?

The last time I travelled, I brought my advance parole documents. Are these still needed now that I have my perm resident card?

Also, the last time I travelled, I got pulled into secondary while they processed my advance parole. What can expect this time? Will it be a smoother crossing?

  12. I think it's funny that most people put down types of food they would miss. Including myself. I would miss mexican food and Chipotle and Qdoba. Cheap beer. Definitely the weather. KY has some nice weather, though I did miss the 5 inches of snow this winter that is typical in Ontario. Butterflies and fireflies seem more abundant here, which I love, but I hate that there are bigger and badder spiders. And ticks. I've never had to buy tick treatment for my dogs in Canada.

Of course, I would miss my husbands family, but right now I miss my family more.

Cheaper gas prices are nice, even though they are going up up up.

  13. Hey folks,

I've seen a few people mention on here that they have "Canadian satellite".

    What is this?

Is there a service provider out there that carries Canadian programming?

    Thanks!

  14. wow, I'm astounded at the number of replies!! I forgot how much fun posting in the Canadian forum can be :)

Thanks everyone for sharing your tips and thoughts and experiences.

Like most people, I made the assumption upon moving here that things were going to be "just like Canada". And in some respects they are, but in so many deeper aspects, they aren't. I also think my biggest downfall is that I go around my new city, trying to find things/places/events that are the same as what I had in Canada, and when I can't find those things, it really makes me miss home. I've recently been on the search for good hiking trails (in Waterloo, Ontario, I was surrounded by peaceful and secluded hiking trails that I could walk my dogs). I can't find that here. In fact, most hiking trails in Kentucky are labeled as "preseverations" and dogs aren't even permitted!!!

I'm a big outdoor person, and to find that same access to nature here has been tough, and has left me missing home in a big way.

I miss a lot of the food, too, but my husband and I get creative and we try to make a lot at home, like our own poutine.

Of course, I miss the obvious, like healthcare and our liberal culture. People here like to think they are liberal, but they really aren't. And the segregation between cultures makes me sad. I miss the multi-culturalism of Canada.

But being with my husband is certainly heavenly. I only have to remember what life was like a few months ago, stressing about getting a K-1 visa approved, and I feel blessed that we are finally together.

I used to take comfort in knowing that a visit back to Canada (and my mom's), was only a 9 hr drive away. But with the rising costs of gas, that road trip is no longer economical, therefore the trips will be fewer and farther between.

If there are any Canadians in Kentucky (or Cincinnati), give me shout. I would love to hook up :)

  15. Ok, so I moved to Kentucky about 6 months ago, and I'm feeling the home sickness. I've been reading through the forums here from other people who were also feeling home sick, and I think it's only added to my melancholy-ness.

I would love to hear from other Canadians who have moved to the States. Please share your stories on how you adjusted to your new home, or how you deal with the home sickness. Please, no venting here. I'm looking for inspiring stories on how my fellow Canadians overcome that horrible feeling.

7)Now your picking ur financial institutions! 1st one will be ur Cdn bank, second pul down menu is ur USA bank. They should be listed there already if it is properly set up, click on NEXT

8)Now to the exciting page!!! This is where u see the rate they will be giving you. And there is a REFRESH button just below that rate! U can keep hitting refresh and hope it gets better, it may a tad, or it may not. At this time you can confirm the trade OR CANCEL it!! Ur not stuck to the trade UNTIL you confirm it!! As of 2023 Sunday Custom house would give me $98.59 usd for $100 cdn.

As well you can send money from ur USA acct to Canada. One just has to re-register ur accounts!! This time you do it all online (not mailing.faxing in) takes only a few minutes!!

As well the staff at Customhouse are very friendly and more than happy to walk you through the steps.

When I first set-up Custom House, I set it up to transfer funds from US to Canada. Now I want to transfer funds from Canada to US, but it is asking me to fax in a signed sheet for confirmation. I thought I didn't have to do this once my first account was set-up. Have I done something wrong?
