  1. Hi everyone, what is the best flight right now to fly from Ho Chi Minh City Saigon to Seattle, WA?  Price is not an issue.  Just want the quickest and most hassle free travel during this Covid19.  My Wife got her Visa this September and planning to Travel to Seattle, WA in late November or Early December, would not want any later than that because her Visa will expired in a couple months after that.

I have try to Book with EVA Air in early December and they already Cancel my flight and I have to rebook for Late November, and don't know if they Cancel again because they say flight are Cancel if not enough people book.  I book EVA because right now it's the easiest so far just one stop in Taipei and transit in 3 hours to another Flight to Seattle.

Was thinking Korea Air or Japan Airline, but they have too many stop and may have a more harsh requirement check when landing and transisting.

All travelers to the US are required to provide certain information before check-in. This is known as APIS (advance passenger information system), and is a CBP requirement. If you check in online you therefore provide this on the website, if you check in at an airline desk then the agent notes the details. Different people need to provide different types of information, example US citizens and residents just need basic info and passport details (and green card details if relevant), visa holders also need to provide address in US and maybe other info (been a long time since I had to do that bit).

    https://www.cbp.gov/travel/travel-industry-personnel/apis2

    https://www.dhs.gov/publication/advanced-passenger-information-system-apis-update-national-counterterrorism-center-nctc

Lets say if you book your flight through a Travel Agent and they didn't or forgot to fill out the API, will there be problem or they can fill it in when you check - in?

I prefer booking directly with the airline as that's the most hassle-free option in case of flight cancellations.  In these uncertain times, flights often get canceled...

Also, they noted on the link I gave you that: "If your credit card transaction has been successfully authorized through Verified by Visa or MasterCard® SecureCode or American Express SafeKey® or JCB J/Secure, you will NOT be required to present the credit card upon check-in at the airport. In addition, the cardholder does NOT need to be one of the travel companions."  Try calling their office to make sure.

But yes, sending your wife the money would be another option.

But how do I know when booking on EVA Air website, the credit card will go through authorized Verified by Visa or MasterCard?  Mine is a Visa Credit Card, but on their website it asking for the 3 Digit Code on the back, and in a statement it did say if you have to input that in, you have to have the physical card with it.

I don't want to have to paid for it, then it didn't go through the Verified process I have to Cancel it.

I understand the hassle with the credit card but what is your problem with putting in her passport number? That's a pretty standard procedure

It's not problem entering the Passport Number in, even booking through an Travel Agent they still need to do that.  My concerned was the Credit Card problem since I can't really be there or give her the physical credit card and they may Cancel her flight.

EVA Air recommends to contact their city office prior to the day of the flight for the credit card verification procedure if needed.  Ask your wife to call their office to get clarity on what she needs to present to avoid any hassle during check-in.

Here are the details from their website -- https://www.evaair.com/en-global/public/credit-card-non-card-holder.html

If I book a flight through a Travel Agency, can I skip all this step?

Maybe I will just send her the money so she can book her own ticket.

Pre-COVID times, I flew with EVA Air for all my trips to the US.  From my experience, their check-in staff were very thorough in checking my travel documents.

On the booking page, under Travel Document --

    1. Select Passenger Passport for "Document Type"
    2. Enter your wife's passport number (not visa number) under "Document Number"
    3. Select Vietnam for "Country/Region of Issue"

For the travel visa section, EVA Air gives you the option to leave this blank.  I did and never had any issues checking in.  The staff will check your wife's CR1/IR1 visa at the counter.  They would know that it's a valid travel visa.

Just in case, tell your wife to also be ready to provide your US address.  Not sure if their policy differs by country of origin, but the check-in staff would ask for the US address I'd stay in before giving me my boarding passes.

Thanks Chancy, it's just the information I needed.

Also, I will be buying her flight Ticket on EVA Air Website with a Credit Card.  But I heard EVA need to check for the physical credit card that use to purchased the ticket.  Since I can't be there, does a screen shot of the credit card good enough, or if I book online and already paid I do not need to show them the credit card?

  6. What I mean is, if she already have her Passport and Visa, can she just bring those to them to fly.  Do I still need to fill out the Passport and Visa Information when booking a flight.  It say at the bottom Travel Visa may required, but what she have is not a Travel Visa.  It's a Immigration Visa Permanent Resident.

I'm a little confused filling it out.  Under Document Type do I select "Passenger Passport." and in Document Number, is that where I put her Visa Passport Number?

and under Country/Region of Issue, do I put Vietnam?

  7. Hello everyone,

My wife got her Visa and I'm currently booking a flight for her from Ho Chi Minh City to Seattle, Washington with EVA Air.  On EVA Air website it is asking me for Travel Document, do I need to fill all this out.  It did say "Only the * are mandatory."

Has anyone has any experiment with this?  Will there be any problem if I book it without filling those out?  She just need to present her Boarding Pass and when come to US present custom border with paperwork right?

I attached an image to help what I'm talking about.

    Thank You

  8. Does anyone have any recent interview in Ho Chi Minh CIty Consolation?  I went off all the checklist for the Interviews and was wondering if original I-864 is needed for the Interview?  My Lawyer fill out for me and already summited to NVC and already approved.

On NVC Website it is also stated that it is not needed.

    3. Gather Documents Required for the Interview

Every visa applicant, no matter their age, must bring certain documents to the interview, including photographs, the original or certified copy version of all civil documents submitted to NVC. You do not need to bring your Affidavit of Support or financial evidence you submitted to NVC..

  9. Hello,

I just received back from NVC my files and fees have been accepted and now they forwarded to the ambassader in Vietnam for an Interview Date.

My question is, I file my Green card and submitted all documents to NVC on Feb 20, 2020 before Feb 24, 2020 that the Public Charge Rules take in effect.  Do I still need to fill out the DS:5540?

Also, there is a question on the DS:5540 that ask

4A. Will you be covered by health insurance in the United States within 30 days of your entry into the United States?

Yes No If you answered "yes" to Item A, identify the specific health insurance plan and date coverage will begin.

How do I go and purchased Healthcare for Spouse to have Proof that I will buy Healthcare for her because I have no ways to know when she will enter the USA yet.
