thanks for the advice - very helpful.

Thanks for the replies.
I should've been a little more specific - I'll be posting to Germany (overseas) and may or may not be deploying from there. If I delay the process but don't have the embassy extend my petition, will I have to restart the process? Thanks again.

I'm currently waiting for NOA2/approval of our I-129F petition for the K1 visa. It's reached the point where I don't believe we will have the visa in time for our projected wedding date. I don't know when the next time window for us to possibly to get married will be - I'm in the military and will be going overseas soon; there are a lot of unknowns.
Is it possible for me to stop the visa process right now (say, once the NOA2 is received) and continue pursuing it several months (possibly up to a year) down the road when we know more about our situation? Or will the application "expire" and we will have to restart the entire process?
I've tried reading around on here and on USCIS for answers but I haven't been able to find anything. I would appreciate any advice on this matter. Thanks.

So I'm right behind then - I'm WAC 0720

I am wondering the same thing...according to the timelines, it looks like NOA2 -> interview/visa takes 3-4 months on average, but I hear processing times are getting shorter. If I get the NOA2 by November, and barring any administrative delays, could my fiancee expect to have the visa by February? Or is that cutting it too close? We're shooting for a mid-February wedding...

So it looks like us end of June filers are getting approved; that's great news! I was getting really nervous about my case being delayed, but it looks like I should be hearing something any day now...it's been about 4 months since NOA1. *crosses fingers*

jodee, thank you very much, that's exactly the information I was looking for...I think that answers all my questions. Could I send you a PM about some specifics?

We considered it, but I have to go to officer school in July and won't be done until the first week of February, so we didn't plan on getting married any earlier - I don't know if/when I could get off while in training (I might not even get any time off for Christmas, not sure yet)...though if we got married earlier somehow I guess that would help a quite a bit.

Long time lurker, first time poster.
I am sending in on Monday (6/18/07) my I-129F petition for the K-1 visa for my Japanese fiancee; we are tentatively planning on getting married in February 2008, probably mid-month (provided she has the visa of course). However, I am in the Army and am on orders to go to Germany no later than the first week of March. We plan on filing for AP and AOS as soon as we're married.
Is there any way my fiancee can accompany me to Germany without having to wait 2-3 months for a conditional green card or AP? Or will we just have to wait? I don't know if there are any exceptions for military orders, or if this situation would qualify us to file for an emergency AP.
I've read the forums for a while and can't find any information on this specific topic. I would really appreciate any advice or information. Thanks.
how to cancel petition?
in US Embassy and Consulate Discussion

I emailed the NVC asking about how to cancel (I broke up as well), they instructed me to contact the embassy and request in writing that the petition be withdrawn (it was at the embassy stage). I'm sending the letter on Monday.
It's weird how things change, it doesn't feel like long ago I was putting this application together and working so hard at that (last June), now I'm asking that it be cancelled...craziness.
