I think he's saying that his fiancé started 6 months of DOT at St. Luke's - they give sputum culture results every 3 months during the process - the results for this particular sample was clear.

My wife went through this process, but her experience likely won't line up with your fiancé, for several different reasons. It's been a while, so the details are fuzzy, but I recall St. Luke's having her come in about a month after her treatment ended for a follow-up. During the follow-up, they automatically scheduled another medical. So, I would expect about a 1 - 2 months after DOT before you can safely schedule an interview at USEM. Then again, my wife went through this during the height of the pandemic, so the timeline might have been affected by that.

    Thanks

  2. My fiance was dinged with the dreaded Sputum. She has made it through the first 3 months and is apparently clear now. Of course she has to fulfill the full 6 months of treatment still.

My question relates to the end of treatment and how soon we can schedule new medical and the interview (obviously pending passed medical).

She gets plenty of opinions from others at St. Luke's but in looking for someone who has been through it and not "going" through it.

Approx how long after that final treatment at St. Luke's will you be able to reschedule the medical exam? She's been told that she will have to wait an additional 2 months for final sputum results. Her current tests are all negative at this point. Wondering if she has to wait at all (after) considering that.

Bonus question. Others also tell her the time will be extended depending upon how many Holidays the clinic was closed on. True?

Thanks in advance for any advice

As much as you want to try to "move things along", getting the medical done too soon will shorten the visa validity.   Visa validity is tied to the date of the medical (day 1).

And as mentioned already, if she tests positive for TB she will have to complete DOT therapy (6 months of taking meds daily at St. Luke's).  Upon completion of DOT she would take a new medical and the visa validity would only be 90 days.

You are K-1, is your status on CEAC showing READY?

We are actually still AT NVC on K1. My thinking (maybe I'm off) was that the 6 months didn't start until she could pass the medical. I'm anticipating at least a 2 month delay and potentially much longer if she is positive (although no symptoms).

  4. My fiance got a chest xray locally and it showed a bit of scarring that they listed as "likely caused by PTB". I'm wondering if it might be a good idea for her to get the medical at, St. Luke's started since she will likely get into Sputum protocol at this point.

Any thoughts? Not concerned about the cost. More so trying to use the (stopped) clock to our advantage.

Why don’t you open a Schwab account?  The atm fees are all reimbursed. I had 4 atm withdrawals last month at 250p a piece and on December 31st all those fees were put back in my account. Same this month, 4 withdrawals so far and will be reimbursed on January 31st.

I will definitely look into that one. Thanks

Personally I just setup a new checking account at the same bank my primary checking/savings is at and sent the debit card to my Fiance, then gave her the pin so that she can use the account to withdrawal cash at the ATM no questions asked.

Works well and I just setup an automatic transfer from my primary checking to the second account the 1st of every month.

Were you able to put her name on that card? I sent one to my fiance but she can never use at stores because it only has my name on it. The ATM fees pile up otherwise

I don't know. We haven't received anything official since the NOA2 letter. I managed to get the NVC case number by calling them directly with one of the phone numbers provided here. No welcome letter, email or other notice from the NVC. It just says "AT NVC" if I check online.

Can I ask what number you called.?

Looks like they won’t allow this until a vaccine is widely distributed which for the Philippines will be mid year or a little bit later.

    Hang in there.

I can see a situation whereas proof of vaccination would get you in. Reality is, we simply don't know.

Hey guys, I know there have been some rumours about the K1 visa interviews not being scheduled until the Schengen area is no longer under the travel ban to the U.S.

Well, today I saw this video, QndA from U.S. embassy in Czech Republic (who is under the travel ban) as you can see, at 32 minutes into the video, she confirms embassy in Prague is indeed processing and scheduling interviews for K1 visa.

That means that other embassies in other EU countries should follow in the future despite there being a travel ban or not!

This is good to hear. Finally entering that phase. Just need the embassy to open.

You can mail her  Sim card via DHL, it take 3-5 days, once she arrive in the US, the line will be active. Roaming is expensive and very unreliable.  The best and cheapest option would be using WiFi at the airport, but as u said, you don't wanna put your eggs in one basket, mailing her a sim will help.

    I like that idea.

I've traveled back and forth 15 times and have had cases where I cannot connect to wifi. I need to help her avoid that feeling of panic.

  11. Just looking ahead to my fiance arriving in the USA. I'm hoping I can go get her and help her travel back here (from Philippines) but that may not be possible.

I'm looking for advice on the best way for her to be able to contact me by cell phone once she arrives in the USA. We can communicate via FB messenger as long as she can get wifi but I don't want to count on that. I'm thinking along the lines of a sim card that she can pop in her phone and activate herself? Something I can mail to her in advance

Any advice? She has never traveled and is very scared of the long road here.

  12. We recently had to change my Fiances phone number do to an ex stalking her. How can we update this so that she doesnt miss out on any communications? Does the embassy communicate at all by mail? We are just past the NOA 1. My concern is that she lives in a squatter area in Philippines and the addresses arent so clear. I noted to call her OLD number for any deliveries so I really need to update that.
