1. An elderly woman had just returned to her home from an evening of church services when she was startled by an intruder. She caught the burglar robbing her home of its valuables and she yelled:

'STOP! Acts 2:38!' ('Repent and be baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven').

The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done.

As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar, 'Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a Scripture to you.'

'Scripture?' replied the burglar 'She said she had an Ax and Two 38's!'

2. You are right You have no idea of my relationship. We have known each other for years and I have known the family for over a decade. I have never implied that Joseph is lazy or going to live off me when he gets here. My comment about him not making as much as I do is a reference to my income level. I am not some welfare mom or some little old lady living on disability, so lonely for company and praying someone will drop a paycheck in my lap. Those are the types that will frustrate a hard working man as a burden and will find their home empty once again.

I am not sure why you singled me out, maybe you have something against interracial marriages but whatever you trip is that is fine. Joseph has long admired white features and that is part of what makes us tick as a couple. He has never really cared for the type of woman that spends hard earned money on hair and nails. His education there is as a construction costing manager. He made a decent wage by Nigerian standards. He was never one of those Nigerians I have had contact with that have money for things and could never quite explain how they got it. ( To me magic money spells scammer ) Right now there isn't much call for construction here in southern California so he will probably work out of his specialty. Maybe do a switch to something else. Either way he is looking working in a new country and will not be paid as a highly experienced , highly educated employee straight off.

I am not heading for a free fall by any means. Joseph is not well off in Nigeria but he was doing the best he could. He owns a couple of pieces of property that as of right now don't have dwellings on them. He is older and unmarried because when he was younger, he paid bride price for a woman, educated her and lost her to an automotive accident while she was doing her youth corp service. I have been to where she is buried on the family property. We have talked about plans for both properties as well as caring for his parents ( he is the oldest son so that falls on him ) We have talked traditions such as head shaving if he predeceases me. His father has broken a kola nut in my honor. His youngest brother and I hit off well because we are both electrical engineers. Another is a doctor. Joseph has given a lot to make sure they didn't have to leave school due to lack of money and never asked me for anything. Why would I at this point develop a sense of cheapness and tell him to reschedule an interview over a few hundred dollars. We want to be together so if for a bit more money comes out of my pocket I am fine with it.

What is meant by the statement in red? Please explain

It simply means that he doesn't want a woman that spends money looking like a harlot with fake nails and excessive makeup and hair nor that wears clothing showing off their body to everyone.

What's a harlot? Never mind I will google it.

4. Hello Everyone,

I am back from the dead. I have been lurking around and not logging on heck I forgot my password. Now that I am in, I wanted to tell my story. I too was an avid VJ viewer. Our interview was February 6, 2008. Fortunately for me we were placed in AP. I can’t say the reason why because I’ve been placed under advisement. I can say this, in my personal opinion I was “spared” from the GC scammer. Here is my story. I went to Nigeria, had a lovely time. Came back to the states filed paperwork and the journey began. Filed in June, approved November. That’s when the s*** hit the fan. Let me back that up, got back to the states that’s when I open my own “personal bank of America” at least that’s what my SO thought. I was sending money to him like I had a slot machine in my house or as I stated my own bank. It became unbearable. My personal obligation was not a factor, long as I sent the money as promised. I remember one incident where I had to put my car in the shop and I called him and told him that the money I promised to send I wouldn’t be able to because of the amount it caused to repair my car. His comment was, “but you promised”. Then I thought maybe I should break it down to him in Naira that didn’t help. So I folded and sent the money. I then stop promising. And he stop asking for money, he gave me these sad stories. And being the generous person that I am, I would say how much you need. After we were approved I stated to him that I could no longer send any more money because we needed to prepare for the physical and anything else needed. That didn’t help; he told he needed money for his children Xmas, Wow. My thought what is this? Why am I doing this? I barely know this man. Do I really love this man enough to keep sending him money sometimes twice a month? It didn’t bother him, I knew when he needed money he would call early in the morning, middle of the day, late at night etc. I stop calling back as often. I was the one calling, sending money and he was not making a contribution. Red flag. Now I am paying attention. I am embarrassed to tell this story but I feel it’s time to let it go and share. I am not trying to rain on anyone’s journey, just telling my story. He too got robbed the day before his first medical appointment. Heck I laughed. Didn’t ask for money because I nipped that in the bud before he parted his lips. The money for the medical was sent the day he went to Lagos for the medical. I didn’t give him the Western Union number until he was in Lagos. He wanted me to provide funding for the trip there and back, plus the medical. Not going to happen, by this time I am tired. I don’t care what happens at the interview now. I threw my hands up and prayed that if this is for me then let it be. The interview day approached finally. Got that call at 6:30 am US times 02/06/08. AP AP AP What is this? I cried, I cried, I cried. Just think I thought I didn’t care. I went to work finally at 10am left work at 2pm couldn’t function or concentrate. We spoke the next day. The conversation we had and what he was telling me was indication that I was being scammed. Now ladies/gentlemen that’s my personal opinion. Can’t give you the origin of the conversation but I can say his comment was, “I didn’t trust you that must”. What the F*** is that? Trust me, but my money was trustworthy. I am not bashing anyone but him. Idocare, I can identify with some of the things you are saying. Not sure what u meant by approaching storm, technically that could mean anything. If I had to relate my journey to that comment, I avoided the storm. I thank God for AP and I stopped the process shortly there after. I didn’t give it a second thought. I am happy that this journey is over and my life is back to basic. Most importantly my savings is looking pretty good AGAIN. Hahaha. Sometime when I hear the song, “The River” by Noel Gourdin, I think of my Tunde. One day I called him just to hear his voice, he was happy to hear from me. And then he asked for money and I said, you are kidding me right, he said, NO. No more international calls for me. I will close my friends, and I pray that you all will have a successful marriage. No one knows your heart but God and You. Not error free.

5. Hello everyone,

This is a very interesting site. I've learned a lot from this site, thank you all for sharing. Unfortunately, my journey is ending. I guess my question is, would I have to contact VSC or just don't respond when or if I am approved? This was a very difficult decision and it is really affecting me. Thank God this is a long weekend.

Congratulations to all that have received their approvals and for those who will receive their approvals soon in case I don't come back to visit.

6. Hello VJ Family,

Since we have to wait this period out without our better halves, I was wondering if anyone knew what calling card gave the most minutes to Nigerian land lines and Lagos numbers. Right now, I have been using one that gives me about 50 minutes for $2.00.

Please if you have any information, I am willing to try new avenues to bring my monthly calling cost down.

Yes, I do utilize Skype, MSN, and Yahoo. But, I cant possibly sit at the computer all day. My schedule is really tight.

Thanks in advance,

Missy

Where did you get that card from? I am using VIP Communication and CTA Africa. Too expensive. I just call now and say I love you and hang up. :help:

7. I am sure that many of you VJer's received mixed reactions upon announcing your engagement or marriage or your foreign spouse or fiancé.

For this reason, I would like to pose a question.

1. Why would one person's happiness make another person so sad?
2. How could such a happy time in your life become bitter sweet to so-called friends and family?
3. Does misery really need company?

I guess it is good to know who your real friends are, but it sucks to find out at such a happy time in your life...

(Sorry....that was actually 3 questions)

Feel free to post or vent your own experiences.

Girl don't worry about "those so-called friends/family" Be happy with your decision. Bump what ya friends say!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!! I am patiently waiting. And YES misery love company. I am happy with my decision and I will wait patiently for my fiance to arrive here so that WE can start OUR lives together. Go on girl.

8. Hope all is well with everyone and that your process is progressing to your satisfaction. By the grace of God, my fiancé POE will be JFK, when he gets his VISA. Fortunately for me it's only a four hour drive to my home, if a problem should arise. My question is, is there a fee for the EAD stamp at the POE @ JFK? :help:

Hi Akoto,

there is no fee for the EAD stamp, I went through JFK too. The EAD stamp is valid as long as your K1 visa.

Karin

The Temp EAD is free and is valid for 90 days from the date you enter the same as your I-94..... your K1 is valid for entry for 6 months from the date of issue... once you enter the US it is no longer valid except is very extream circumstances ie. you have to leave the US befor marriage and before the 90 days is up....

Thank you Karin and Kez, this is a wonderful site. May God continue to Bless You and your families.

11. Hello fellow VJ's.

I am new to this site and I am so glad I found it. It appears to contain a wealth of information. I have a question that may have already been asked before but I was unable to find such a question during my search on this site. Here goes....

My current fiance and I have met via the internet in October 2006 but have never met in person physcially. We do however, maintain daily contact via webcam, Yahoo IM'ing, emails, telephone and text messaging. He proposed via webcam, I accepted, and he Fed-x my engagement ring...*lol* We would like to be married in Nigeria in December 2007, and then file for a K-3 Visa for him to join me here in the U.S. in 2008.

Since this will be our first time ever meeting face-to-face, and I have to have a Visa to travel to Nigeria to marry abroad, what is the best Visa for me to apply for? If I understand it correctly, in order to apply for a Fiance Visa you have to show proof of having met at least once in the past two years? Should I apply for Tourist Visa in order to see him for the first time, although we plan to marry during our first face-to-face visit? We both realize that I will come back home after we marry in December, but I plan to apply for his Spoual Visa upon my return.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You will probably need a "visitor visa" to enter the country of Nigeria. I recently visitied my Fiance, I had to have a entry visa. I am sure you will find the information you are required to complete once you marry your fiance.

I take it your question is about the visa you (the USC) will apply for to visit and marry your fiance in Nigeria. That's not what we deal with here. We deal with the process of bringing foreign fiance(e)s spouses and family members to the USA. For information on visas to visit Nigeria, go here.

http://www.nigeria-consulate-ny.org/consul...mmgrat/visa.htm

Google "Nigeria Tourist Visa" for an agency to assist, if needed.

Be aware. Somebody going through the visa process to bring a fiance or spouse from Nigeria posted this morning something to the effect of....There are some countries from which it is easy to obtain a fiance or spouse visa and some from which it is extremely difficult. Then there is Nigeria. Be assured there is a reason for this.

I advise you to become very familiar with the process and Nigeria issues before your trip.

13. I actually have been searching and searching and searching for a reasonable ticket to Nigeria, and I think I have found the best one for the money. The ticket is $1310.00 from Jfk in New York and the flight is 11 hours 15 minutes. I will leave here at 3pm and get in Lagos at 715 in the AM.......I like the way that sound. Not too much money and not a long trip If this is the best I can do I will be out of here on June 23....wish me luck I haven't seen my husband in almost 6 months

Hi Mrs. Akindel,

I am a newbie. I took the flight to Lagos Nigeria on 05/19/2007 leaving JFK. Acutally the flight was 10 hours 15/20 minutes. I know that the itinerary says 11 hours 15 minutes but it's less.

May God bless you on your journey that you will arrive safely to Lagos and back home safely.
