  1. My wife took the oath today. Finally, we are really done with USCIS forever. Good luck to everyone.

    Congrates!

Hubs had his interview today and passed! Hurray! Oath on February 5 2009.

Can't wait to get all this behind us. Good luck to everybody still waiting!

Congratulations!! You're almost done. The hard part is behind you.

  2. Hi everyone. My wife's interview in Seattle went very well on November 18, 2008. She got there at 1000 as per the interview letter, waited about 15 minutes and then went in. The lady was very polite and spoke very slowly and clearly. My wife asked for the old test. The lady was looking through the paperwork while asking my wife the questions. My wife said she believes that the lady asked more than 10 questions but wasn't really keeping track. She got them all right so the lady just kept asking questions while she looked through the paperwork. She had to write and read one sentence. That was it. One thing that took my wife and I both by surprise that you all may want to know - the lady asked my wife for proof that she lived in Washington State. I would have thought that the interview letter mailed to our home with the address on it was enough, but apparently not. Luckily my wife has a WA driver's license, which was fine. That's the first time I've ever heard of that. Anyway, everything went quick and we were out of there in about 30 minutes total. Oath is 3 December, and then this long trip will finally be over with. Take care and good luck.

  3. Sorry, can't help. We're still waiting for my wife's interview date. We did her biometrics back in April and haven't heard anything since. Seattle seems to be very slow compared to other field offices. If you don't mind me asking, can you tell me your timeline from the time you did biometrics in the Seattle office and the date that you got your interview? Thanks, and sorry again I couldn't be more help.

  4. Just in case you were wondering, 248 days is a little more than 8 months. Wonderful. Hopefully it will not take that long

You should feel lucky - I filed last September at CSC, my "estimate" was 425 days! and, it looks like that may be accurate......

Sorry to hear that the CSC is taking so long. Hopefully things speed up for you guys.

  5. Just got an I-797C Notice of Action. It says our application and fee were received and that it is in process. Also, "You will be notified of the date and place of your interview when you have been scheduled by the local USCIS office. You should expect to be notified within 248 days of this notice."

Just in case you were wondering, 248 days is a little more than 8 months. Wonderful. Hopefully it will not take that long

  6. I just mailed out the N400 application for my wife's citizenship. I just figured I'd start up a new topic as this latest (and hopefully the last) journey begins. I'm hoping by this time next year my wife will have her citizenship.

Since we live in WA, I mailed the application and the ridiculous application fee to the Nebraska Service Center. But I know that it eventually gets processed by the closest field office, which for us in in Seattle.

So if there's anyone else in this boat, let's stay in touch.

  7. Hello,

I've got a question for all of you recent NSC filers. My wife is now eligible to file for naturalization. The earliest I will file, however, is SEP 08 because we've got some trips in and out of the US between now and then. We will also be moving next year, around MAY-JUNE 09. So from SEP 08 - MAY 09 is the window I've got at our current address and service center (Nebraska) to file. 9 months total.

I am not familiar with the normal processing times for NSC for N-400s. The question is, is 9 months enough time? That would include everything, from the day I mail the first packet until the day we are completely finished and she is a US citizen? If that's not enough time, I'm going to wait until after we move because I don't want to have to go through another change of address/change of service center again in the middle of an application.

    Thanks.

  8. For my 2nd biometrics for my AOS (the first had expired) I had to reschedule - I received the notice December 22- the day before our flight to Houston for Christmas holidays for an appointment December 29th - our return flight was scheduled for the 30th. The biometrics letter had a statement at the bottom about notifying them if you are unable to make that date and need to request another - along with the statement that if you failed to show your case may be considered abandoned. I wrote right on the form itself that we would be in Houston that date returning the following date and requesting the first available appointment after January 1st. I photocopied our flight information (and kept a copy of the notification as well) and included it with it and then put it in an envelope, drove to the actual biometrics office and hand-delivered it rather than risking it getting lost in the mail over the Christmas season. When I got home, I then called the general information number, went through the steps for 'have an appointment' and spoke to an agent who also took down the information and said I should receive a notification for a new appointment within a few weeks. It may have been overkill, but I keep thinking about what would have happened if I had received the notice after we had left for an appointment prior to our return! I wasn't taking any chances. So, yes, it can be done - just make sure you notify them of the fact and the reasons for the request. My new appointment was re-scheduled for February 2 so there wasn't that long of a delay.

I can tell you what my wife and I have done several times now. We have received our biometrics appointment paper. I went online to the INFOPASS link on the USCIS website. I scheduled an appointment BEFORE the appointment on my biometrics letter. And three times, I scheduled the biometrics appointment for a different support center than the one on my appointment letter. It worked every time with no problems. The support center never asked any questions either. I'm not saying you won't have problems doing this, but it worked for us 3 different times in 2 different states.

We got out biometrics appointment about 4 days after the first receipt notice that we got.

    Hope that helps.
