If you're happy to be apart that long, why not get married, file for CR1, takes a year, so will be done after he's had his year working. With the CR1 you can enter the US and work immediately rather than waiting months for AOS with the k1.

Hello, me and my fiance have just reached the stage where the NVC has forwarded info to London Embassy and he just got the letter in the mail with instructions for setting up interview and all that. He just got a new job in the field he wants to work in when he comes to the US and would like to work a year at the job so that it looks decent on a resume and he'll have some experience to make it easier to get a job in the US. Would it be possible to postpone the visa interview for at least 8 or 10 months? (Given that you get 6 months to move to the US after approval).
