  1. Hi all,

Not sure if anyone out there will have had a similar situation. But my husband has his interview this Thursday. (I am American and live in the UK with him). We have just received a call that an immediate family member back home in the states has died. I know typically if all goes well on Thursday they will take his passport and mail it back to us. My question is this: Does anyone know if they are able to return the passport next day so my husband and I can travel home to the states for the funeral?

I did try to phone the embassy as a long shot but I was told the visa office doesn’t receive calls, so we would just need to speak with them at the interview on Thursday. I’m just trying to find answers ahead of time to help with planning the travel and to ease my mind a bit.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Hi all, hoping I can find a little guidance here.

My husband (UK) and myself (US) were married in 2018, filed for my UK spouse visa, and I moved to the UK.

We are now in the process of filing for my husbands IR-1 visa so we can both move back to the US together. I was feeling quite confident that I had a good understanding of what we needed, all of the paperwork, forms, payment, etc, and have spent a lot of time on the govt site following guidelines there. However, I’m starting to feel a little lost about what I need and when I need it. Instructions online are very specific for people who are filing while living apart (US partner living in US, UK partner living in UK) but I’m finding it hard to find info/instructions from others who have done it while both are living in the UK.

I am looking for a list of exactly what documents we need and when we need them, as well as when payments are made.

We have completed the Petition phase, completed the online DS-260, and have an interview booked. Here are things I’m uncertain about:

I believe we do NOT submit any supporting docs online, they all come with us to the embassy for the interview, is this correct?

Because we are filing via the embassy and not a visa centre, I did not receive a letter to book an interview, but I was able to use the link online to schedule it. I believe we will NOT have an interview letter to bring with us, aside from the confirmation from booking the appointment, is this correct?

When using the embassy portal to book the interview, I was not prompted to make any payment. I believe we will be paying in person on the day of the interview, is this correct?

I hope all of that makes sense, and thank you in advance for any guidance, answers, advice.

  3. Hi all,

I'm super new to posting here. I've often referred to this site to read up on things but have never needed to ask a questions so bear with me. I am a US citizen who has immigrated to the UK, but am now applying for my UK husband to immigrate with me back to the US. This question is annoyingly specific to someone who would be in a similar immigration situation.

I am a US citizen living in the UK on a spouse visa (my first 2.5 years). I have my BRP card that allows me to work and re-enter the UK if travelling, etc. However, my wallet was stolen with my BRP card in it. I've taken all of the appropriate steps to replace it, and am now in the 4-6 ish week waiting period for it to be replaced.  This included reporting the BRP card stolen with the UK government as soon as I noticed it was gone, which essentially cancels my current BRP number.

Now, on a separate note, my husband (UK citizen) and I recently filed the I-130 to begin the process of getting his visa for us to move to the states. Within that application, I included a photo copy of my BRP card to prove my being allowed to currently reside in the UK. Here are my concerns and questions: Do I need to notify the office that my BRP card was stolen in relation to our application (if it has already been reported stolen to the government)? Do I need to mail in a new photocopy of my new card when it arrives, or can I just take this with us to the interview when the time comes? Will my card being cancelled cause any issues with our current I-130 application?

Thanks in advance with anyone who may be able to shed light on this.
