They are cracking down on such universities or visa applications where one gets CPT on day 1 or within few months and doesn’t even need to come to the class after one semester. Majority of good universities provide CPT only after one year of attending In-person classes and that too only during summer or winter break and they have to enroll for full time in-class courses during semesters or may provide some limited CPT hours during semesters.

Since you asked for the reason:

Your denial was solely because of the university. Yes, some lucky others may have been approved for visa for the same university but any good CO would reject that.

Okay that's a relief thank you for your comment and all of the other people who helped me understand what happened!

Your timing is somewhat strange too. For graduate school, applications generally have to be in between October and December to start the following fall.  I’m guessing you had a spring admit to this place, for which applications presumably had to be in some while back.. Graduate school is not generally a case of you just start whenever you feel like it. Whichever way you look at it, you have plenty of time to research for the next application cycle. Although, seeing as you don’t exactly know why you got denied, it’s hard to say if another application will be successful or not.

    thank you for the comment

My understanding that for an advanced degree that the Institution was nearly as important as the qualification, just wondered travelling all this way and going to a third rate Uni, well seems odd.

I had my doubts at first yea but as I said I got to know many Algerians who went there and I also met with some of their professors when they held a conference here that's why I applied for me and what I need it was a good opportunity.

I’m not sure what you want. Almost every private college offers some funding to international students and some public ones do too (usually the lower ranked state flagships or state colleges like Nebraska or Ohio State and sometimes even the better state flagships), though funding varies from very limited to very generous. If you’re looking for a list, I’m not going to sit here doing your research for you, especially as I have no idea what you actually want to do or what your grades or test scores are. If you have been serious about wanting to properly study in the US rather than just look for an easy visa, I would expect that you would already have done all this research already, to be honest.

Don't get me wrong I didn't ask you to go and do some research for me I thought you had something in mind already that's why you talked about that, that's why I asked, and yea I've done my research but couldn't find any this university was my last resort because I will be getting my degree this month and I don't want to waste time because of some personal issues, anyway sorry if I offended your or something, I didn't mean to.

You stated early on that you have good academics. There are reputable colleges in the US that offer funding to internationals with good academics.

Can you elaborate on that please?

By the way, I doubt that the low graduation rate was a reason for denial - as long as you have a valid SEVIS and funding it is not up to the CO to decide if the university is a good or bad investment for your education.

    yea I read so too

I am not hugely knowledgeable on all this but firstly two years CPT sounds like a lot for an 8 month program, plus I thought you had to be full time not part time (second part) to get an F1 visa. I am not sure when all the people you talk about went there, but I do know that more recently there has been a crackdown on colleges that are seen to be flimsy pretenses at education and basically get their students through the promise of OPT/CPT work permits, so that may be part of the problem. The other part, which is probably more important and would have saved pages of speculation here, is the existence of the word “falsified “ not once but twice on your AP paper.

well the papers they give here in Algeria are so standard there 3 types of papers the white one means your accepted and has the info on how to pick your passport, the yellow one means you're not accepted due to 214B which is the only reason for rejection they hand out and the last one is the pink one means you're on AP (and there is only one for AP not like the other embassies they have them printed out and they just choose one at the end of the interview), so every paper for AP has those words like "falsified" and believe me they choose the right option each time and for my case they didn't choose any one of those ones because everything I have is legal, I have done my research and if they face someone with falsified information they won't get off easy.

A random school in Iowa (of all places...) gave you a scholarship?  Sorry I'm just baffled.  I can only assume that the lack of funding (what if the scholarship falls through?) and length of program is your downfall.

but he didn't ask for the funding at all he just asked of what the university asked me to bring, also most people who get the lack of funding problem and go to AP they get asked to deliver papers that show a proof of funds, for my case I wasn't even asked to show the proof of funds I had neither did he tick the "Lack of funding" option in the paper he gave me so I really think it isn't the issue, as I said a lot of people went before and they showed the same amount of money that I showed.

Probably didn't meet the "full course of study"  standard - meaning it would be a two or 4 year program.  Add 1 year OPT.   Or 2 year associates plus 1 year opt and 2 year opt-stem.

You are lucky you don't have a lifetime ban.  Well you probably do.

it's a 8 months full time studying + 2 years of CPT and part time studying, it meets the standard because a lot of people have already went there from all over the world it's not a new university it's been on for years now with this kind of program.

  9. 5 minutes ago, NikLR said:

What was the degree in? there's nothing that gives only 8 months.  It's 8 months per YEAR for 4 years.  Even their ESL program costs a minimum of $6600

It's a bit of a weird school to choose to be honest. What made you choose this one?

it's a professional master's degree you study for 8 months then you apply for an internship and at the same time you study online to finish the remaining courses when you're done with that you get your master's degree.

I chose it because of the scholarship and the courses they are offering, also I know a lot of people who went there and they are all in better places.

The interview was over with the falsified items. But . . .

Unfortunately the University does not speak for USCIS.   A local community college here recommends $300 to $500 per month indicentials for full scholarship students.

If you had gotten past the falsified info you probably would have gotten hung up with not having plane reservations.

    What University was it?

    Maharishi International University
I've told him that I had 4000$ and the program was a 8 months program

Based on what else the CO ticked,  I would think "other" is the least of the issues  . . .  1 falsified often leads to getting a ban.  2 is pretty bad.  The CO probably wanted to know how the SEVIS Fee was paid.

You might have a scholarship but you also need funds for travel and incidentals.

yea he asked me about how I got the money and so on I answered that my uncle helped me so he asked about him too and that's it, he only ticked "Other" nothing else I guess the other issues are not for me, as I said the university said that I would need 2000$ minimum for personal expanses, so I showed an amount greater than that, he didn't ask me to show him the proof of funds he just asked where I got the money.

If you want help you should upload it here so we actually know what your status is.

it's in French/Arabic, it says that:

Dear applicant you got rejected under 221g but you might have a chance to get accepted

Please give information regarding for the following:
    -Original I20 or falsified

    -SEVIS fee Payment

    -Falsified picture

    -Lack of proof of funds

    -Passport

    -Other

and that's it, he ticked "Other" as I mentioned so I don't know what he meant

    Dude. Yesterday you said

    And today you said

You’re claiming you are not on AP but keep saying you are when you describe the interview. If you are taking about previius AP then maybe um don’t because it sounds like you are describing the most recent interview when you go into great detail in this thread

yea I am describing the latest interview, I got sent to AP then after 3 weeks I got refused that's what I meant!

so yea I was on AP then I got rejected

  14. Just now, SusieQQQ said:

So the upshot of that long post is yes you are actually on AP and not outright refused as your first post claimed?

in that case there are myriad reasons you could be on AP, ranging from checking the funding offer is genuine to security concerns and anything in between.

No I am not currently in AP I made this post after I got refused last wednesday

  15. 17 hours ago, SusieQQQ said:

Ok, so it’s not the funding. (Just to confirm, you got a total full ride scholarship covering all expenses? Airfare? ) Not unusual for them not to ask questions- they mainly go by what’s in the DS160.

I am a little confused because your initial post said you were denied without even going to AP and one of the posts you added today says you are on AP. Which is it?

well to clarify things, this scholarship covers everything except the airfare, and they also asked for around 2000$ for personal expanses which I had, so on October I applied and I got rejected right away without any explanation, the paper I was given had the code 214b which means I didn't prove my ties to my home country (correct me if I am wrong) but the problem wasn't here the problem was that she didn't ask a single question about my ties or my plans after graduation to sum it up no question that could lead to the 214b in fact she didn't ask that many questions at all just why did I choose the US and why did I choose that university and who's helping me with the personal expanses, I was confused so I asked her because I knew what's 214b before I went to the visa interview I did my research, anyway she didn't reply with anything helpful, so I just went home then I talked to the university and they decided to change my entry date so I applied again for this month on the 2nd of January, it was very satisfying this interview he asked a lot of questions he smiled and so on then suddenly his facial expression changed (after around 7m my visa interview was longer than the ones before me) and he asked for the acceptance letter which I found was weird because it was so sudden i mean we passed the university subject and went to why did I choose the US and who's helping me with the personal expanses, anyway I handed it to him he read it very thoroughly like he really took his time with it then he said he'll be sending me to AP and that's it.

Nothing to do with Brexit, La Manche!

I always wonder how people afford US Tuition, lot of moaning about UK Tuition rates and they pale into insignificance compared to US costs, From an Algerian perspective even more so.

Remember reading about a couple in CA, I think she is a Lawyer and him a Dentist and between them they had racked up $650,000.

I can't afford them both, I just was successful in securing a scholarship in the US that's why I applied there

Student visas are not granted based on who is better academically- the only bar for that is acceptance at a university. The most common reasons for refusals are (1) the CO did not believe you have enough funding to properly cover your stay (also raises risk of work in violation of student visa) and/or (2) you did not demonstrate sufficiently strong ties to home to overcome the presumption of immigrant intent that is applied to all non-immigrant visas. It is probably unlikely that you will be successful in a future attempt if nothing in your circumstances changes, so Europe may indeed be a better option for college for you. Sorry, it probably does seem unfair.

Well I didn't need funding because the scholarship covers everything, also he didn't ask a single question related to my ties to my home country

There are lots of good universities in countries other than the US--look at the UK, Canada, Australia, France.....  something about your application that they didn't like.  If you are strong academically, you should have lots of options.  Sorry to hear about your refusal but if I were in your situation I would look elsewhere.  Good luck!

I can't afford it in other places, this was a scholarship
