  1. Related question...

My wife and I will initially move in with my dad in the US.  I am the US citizen and have been living abroad for some years.  I kept my US drivers license, bank / investment accounts, auto insurance, and always filed US taxes.  I have prepared my I-864 and my dad will be a join sponsor and has prepared an I-864.  We intent to live with him for a month or so while we out own place -- does this necessitate that we use an I-864a because we will, for a short time, be a household?  Of course now we are not one household as my wife and I are still abroad.

Hope this question makes sense... 😕

There are no visa interviews being conducted at consulates anywhere due to the global pandemic.  So - even if you could get an "exceptional circumstance" petition approval, no visa will be issued until the consulate opens up again.

Yeah, I know that there won't be any issuance of visas or interviews conducted - my question is whether sufficient consulate staff are working to either grant or deny an 'exceptional circumstance' petition at the moment...

You can always send them an email and ask, since it still takes a good two months to have the VOH. If you currently have a case that is being processed at the service centers in the States they won‘t accept any exceptional circumstance cases

I guess my question is really whether the consulate's decision to grant DCF is influenced by any current staff shortages because of COVID -- i.e., if the same underlying 'exceptional circumstances' are less likely to result in a grant of DCF now vs. when things are more normal post-COVID.

  4. How is COVID-19 impacting everyone?

I recently secured a job offer in the US needing to relocate in the next few months.  I am going to contact the consulate to check if they can process DCF as an 'exceptional circumstance'.  However, I saw the following in a recent email update from DOS:

    Quote

"The U.S. Embassy in Berlin and Consulates General Frankfurt and Munich are only offering emergency services.  All routine consular services remain suspended."

So, obviously there is only a "bare bones" crew working at the consulates now and DCF is not an emergency service, but do you think that the consulate will be able to tell me whether they'll *eventually* be able to grant the DCF?  Otherwise, I've thought to wait another month to request the DCF.  I wouldn't need to relocate until mid-May at the latest.

    Thanks!

I would be extremely grateful for any experiences of people with this as well.

Otherwise, I'll most likely begin this exact process next week, but through Rome. I am currently awaiting a US job offer to come in and will be applying for DCF under exceptional circumstances. However, my wife is also in a high-risk pregnancy, so we are hoping that speeds up the process as well.

@Hubby14  Are you a resident in Germany or Italy?  Just trying to understand the Rome bit ;)
