  1. Hi Nimo. May I ask about your experience with the K-1 interview process at the US embassy in Kenya? Process with medicals? Did it take long to get an appointment for the interview?

    Appreciate your feedback and insights.

      Hi Highnesd,

I had a smooth experience in the embassy..my fiance had an immigration attorney that processed our application. So around 12th December the attorney had submitted D-160,remaining part was me getting an interview appointment. It was a big challenge to get a date.Didn't manage to get a date in December and January until I think the 3rd day in February that's when I found few open days open n Immediately booked interview date.

Before I got the Interview date in January I had contacted the IOM enquiring about medical appointment n they booked me a date even without interview letter. They informed me if I have a letter from NVC with case number it was enough. At the IOM you will spend the whole day there.First they give counseling.proceed to blood n urine test..they check for syphilis. Then Xray for T.B.eye sight test n pregnancy test n finally vaccines.By the time u leave they give u xray on cd n vaccine certificate.if u have evidence of vaccine u have received remember to carry them.

At the embassy,my interview was at 7am.you are allowed to enter the embassy 15min before interview time...you will go through security checks..remember not carry things like laptop, charger, earphones sharp object like nail cater.

The first desk, they check DS-160,passport photo ,interview letter n if you are on the list of people with interview on that day.Next you will enter the building at the reception I guess.they ask for DS-160 n give u ticket number.you will be told to stay outside n wait for ur ticket number..at our time there were many people so we waited for like 3hrs.This is because Nairobi is the main hub that process such visa for applicants in kenya, uganda, burundi, south sudan,Djibouti...my ticket was called at counter 9..there was a Kenyan lady..she collected my documents..passport,photos,police clearance, birth certificate,my fiance tax returns, affidavit of support, divorce decree, his birth certificate..NVC approval.she asked some questions,if I have been in military, whether I have ever applied for U.S visa before, whether I have other kids apart from the one i was with at the interview.I was told to wait outside my ticket will be called again.I waited for 2more hours n my ticket was called to a different counter.I knew this was now the real interview. The guy on the counter was friendly..he asked what my fiance does for a living, how many sisters n bro he has, whether we have gone on vacation together outside kenya, when we intend to wed, since I had lived outside kenya before, what i was doing in that country, where I work..n that was it my visa was approved.took our finger print n was told I will receive my passport at DHL after 2weeks.

Before the interview the immigration attorney had prepared me with questions asked during interview..so all I can say mine was smooth..apart from getting interview date was nightmare it took 2month n now the travel ban that  caught us n almost messed me.But am good now.

Thank you so much for the detailed response and the heads up on the medicals, much appreciated. I'm glad things went well for you, sans the travel ban. By the way, how did you hack getting a flight out?

My case was forwarded to the embassy mid March just when the shut down came into force. I'm hoping for the best with the interview wait times. Did they send you communication for you to initiate booking the appointment? I wanted to create an account but it requires that I have received communication to go ahead and book an appointment.
