  1. Hello,

Does anyone know what name you are supposed to put on the I-90 form when you change it ? The form is not clear in that it doesn't ask what the old name and new name are. It only has you fill in the name, address, etc...

I put the old name in and got a new green card with the old name.

Now I need to resubmit the form. Should I put the old name or new name in the first column ?

    Thanks

  2. As far as I know it is not a requirement. I have friends who kept their family name and it was no problem. It actually works better that way because your country of origin passport probably has your family name, and so if you change your name to married name here, then your green card will be different than your country passport. That is the case with my wife now and it has been a problem when traveling back to her country of Ukraine (only the Ukrainian passport control seems to make a problem about it).. Anyways, if I was to do it over again, I would not have changed her name when she got married to me..

  3. Live and learn I guess.... We could still attempt to have her passport changed in Ukraine instead of her green card here, since we haven't actually changed her name yet, were still in the application phase for that.... I could suggest that to her and see what she sais, any rate, I guess I'll see which one takes longer...

I thought passports were 10 years ? Guess I didn't check to see yet

    Thanks

  4. Hello, My wife changed her name to my name (US) when we got married. So her green card has her married name, and her Ukrainian passport still has her Family name. When we traveled to Ukraine, the passport control in Ukraine, gave us big problems when returning to the US. They said the names did not match, even after we showed him a copy of the marriage certificate. It was a big problem, and he said something about a "stamp" that was supposed to be in her Ukrainian passport. So when we got back, we figured it would be easier to change her green card name back to her family name so it will match her Ukrainian passport. It has been almost 6 months and were still waiting to get the new green card with her family name (we already went to court to legally change her name back, and had biometrics and everything, called they said they are "actively processing the case").. Anyone know how long it could take, and what is the "stamp" the Ukrainian passport control was talking about ???

    Thankyou very much

  6. Hello,

My wife is trying to show in her Ukrainian passport, that her name changed when she married me last year in the USA. This is so her green card married name matches her Ukrainian passport when we travel (we had problems in Odessa because her passport is in her maiden family name) . We were told today from the US Immigration & Natu that the Ukrainian Consulate in the USA (Chicago for us) can put an Addendum in her Ukrainian passport showing her name changed when she got married. Not that the passport is replaced, only add a page document to it.

Does anyone know anything about this "Addendum" ??

    Please Help :crying:

  7. Hello to All,

Does anyone know when I am creating the Letter of Invitation for my wifes' Mother from Ukraine to visit us in USA, will it be a problem if my wife and I both use our married name instead of her Maiden name when addressing the letter ? Her green card name has changed to our married name and so it does not match her mothers name... in other words, will the Embassy question if her mother is actually her mother ?

  8. I can only think that Passport Control in another country (for example Ukraine) is concerned with their "citizens" leaving the country if they don't have proper documentation to go somewhere (for example USA). That being said, Ukrainian passport name does not match green card family name (since changed after marriage). They would need to ensure the person leaving has proper docs to leave, and in the case of the names not matching, they gave us a very difficult time even after presenting a valid marriage certificate.

How long before she can get a US passport (she currently has her first green card for 3 months now)? Then we wouldn't need to go through the major pain of changing her name back on her green card, and everything else that's been changed... example, SS#, DLicense, Car title, etc....

    Thankyou

  9. This one is kind of unique, perhaps..... My wife is Ukrainian and she came here to the US on a K-1 visa. We since married and she has already received her green card. Only problem is, the green card is in her new married name and her Ukrainian passport of course is in her old maiden name. Last time we came back from Odessa Ukraine, the passport control there, gave us a big problem about this name difference, even though we had an official marriage certificate showing the name differences. So after we got back here to the US, we contacted the Ukraine Embassy to learn about how to change the name on her Ukrainian passport to her new married name. As far as I understand we need to return to her hometown in Ukraine and then have it changed there, which could take atleast two weeks.. If we only stay two weeks and there is a problem, that could be a big problem for us... So, I think another option would be to get a I-131 travel visa stamped in her Ukrainian passport with her old maiden name... that way the Ukraine passport control would not give us a problem about it... That costs $300 bucks though !!! Other option would be to change her green card name back to her maiden, but that would not be good too because all her new documents are in her new name... Thanks for reading this and if you have any good ideas, please let me know. Thankyou.

  10. Does anyone know how to change the name on a Ukrainian passport to the new married name ?

My wife and I were coming back from Ukraine (she already has a green card in her married name), and passport control was not going to let her come back (in Ukraine) because her Ukrainian passport has her maiden name on it and doesnt' match her green card with our married name. Needless to say, we never want that problem again..

    Thanks.

Temp solution is to always have a copy of your marriage certificate that shows name change and use the VIP service on departure.

Call the Ukrainian Consulate in Chicago, New York, San Francisco or Washington DC (dependant on your local) ....

Thanks, but there is no VIP service in Odessa Ukraine.. In fact there a bunch of you know what... We had a certified copy of the marriage license and they were still aholes about it, saying she would have to stay in Ukraine while I go back to the USA, she was ballin on that one... I will call the consulate to see what they say..

    Thanks.

  12. once we got married, we took the marriage certificate to the Social security office and got her ss card in her new married name. They didn't have any problem with that, as long as you get there before the I-94 expires, otherwise you will need to wait until you receive the green card (SS office wants to see proof of legal status/residency). All papers I filed for status (I-485, etc..) I used her new married name. I never mentioned other names. If they don't ask for "other names" then don't list them, if they ask on the Bio G-325 you could list the maiden name as is shown on the SS card... I don't think it is a big deal, I used the new married name for everything I could and then go back and change the SS card like the agent said.. Thats my two cents

  13. Does anyone know how this works ? My wife is from Ukraine with a Ukrainian passport. She just received her permanent resident card last week (we live in Michigan, USA). We are going to visit her parents in Ukraine, but the flight back we stop in Germany and need to stay overnight there because the next flight back is the morning after. Will this be a problem for her since she only has a Ukrainian passport ?

  14. Greetings to all,

My wife and I got the notice to appear for an interview (scheduled on September 5th, 2007). They have required us to bring a lot of documents with us....here are the questions:

1: "A completed medial examination (Form - I693) and vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope (unless already submitted)" - She already submitted the information when she went for her K1 interview in India. She had to do a complete medical checkup and vaccinations. When we submitted the AOS application, we sent in a copy of her vaccination forms in India and didn't receive any RFE. So, do we have to get the medical checkup again and vaccination supplement again? Or, can we take a copy of her medical checkup done in India for K1?

2: "A completed affidavit of support with all required evidence." - I have already submitted this with the AOS application. What do I take to the interview?

3: "Petitioner's Birth Certificate including the certified translation" - Have already sent it for both K1 application and AOS application. Do I need to get another certification done or can I just take copies?

    Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance!

Also does anyone know if we need to bring an interpreter for my wife (to the interview), since it said "If you do not speak English fluently, you should bring an interpreter to the interview".... I don't think they would let me interpret for my wife, since I could potentially skew the questions/answers. Anyone know about this ?

I also would very much like to know the answers to your questions. My wife just received her notice to appear for the interview and they asked her to bring all those documents too. She already took a medical examination in Kiev, Ukraine for her K1 visa and received a vaccination supplement. Will these be ok to use ?

We received a package (sealed envelope) from the US Embassy in Kiev during the K1 interview and they said to bring it with us to the US, so far it has been unopened. Would we need to bring this with us to the interview ? Perhaps this is the "sealed envelope" they refer to.

It depends on where your wife is from. I have Obsession for Men which I've used for a long time, and most women here in the states love that. My wife is from Ukraine, and she did not like it. Of course it could be her personal preference but she did mention that she liked the smell of this one man we passed in the grocery store one day. He was middle eastern, and if any of you know, they usually have the common cologne smell they wear over there. If I was you, I'd take your fiancee to the store and have her pick one that she likes after she smells a bunch of them. Otherwise you risk that she will not like the one you choose. Even if another woman picks it for you, it is personal preference and everyone is different.

  17. Does anyone have an idea of the processing time for a B2 visa at the Ukraine US Embassy ?

If I remember correctly it took about 3 weeks or so from application to interview for my wife's parents.

Thanks for the good info. I understand. Grandma is sick now and so Father will stay in Ukraine to help her. Only Mother will make the trip this time, so we won't need to receive both visas. Mother needs a new passport though and she said that Ukraine is not issuing passports right now (I guess they ran out or something.... she said it is a big problem...) Anyone ever heard of this problem ?

  18. Today, I took my wife to the Michigan DMV (Secretary of State) to get her a State I.D...... They issued the State I.D. using my last name (married name) but they said they couldn't use her Ukrainian middle name "Volodymyrivna" on the State I.D. because it wasn't listed anywhere on her Ukrainian passport or K-1 Visa/I-94 form.

This is a patronym, it's not a middle name. Why would she want to use it at all? It's her business, of course, but I don't understand why someone would want to have a patronym-looking middle name.

When you file AOS, you just need to be consistent and use the same combination of names everywhere. It should match the SS card and DL.

Yes, I see your point, but we already submitted the AOS today using her Birth middle name "Volodymyrivna". So it will not match the SS Card and DL. So if the Social Security Office and Michigan DMV are difficult to change the middle name to "Volodymyrivna", then maybe it would be easier to change the green card to match the SS Card and DL once we receive the GC.. It doesn't matter to her, either way, we were just thinking it makes sense that everything should match her Ukrainian Birth Certificate and Passport...

So, we returned to the DMV and Social Security Office with her Birth Certificate, Marriage License, Passport (which wasn't any help because her middle name isn't listed on that), and the Social Security Office was pretty cool about changing the card to show her given middle name, the DMV was resistant to change it but after a few minutes of conversation, they agreed to change it. So now everything matches, and it should be ok.
