Congratulations to all of you who have been approved, transferred or received your EAD's.
Interview was yesterday. Long wait, but relatively painless interview. We assembled a comprehensive portfolio of personal items, most of which was redundant - the interviewer was mostly interested in our photo collection. Apparently my wife should be receiving her green card in about two weeks. Does that sound right? We're almost positive that's what the interviewer said.
The whole process has been convoluted but reasonably swift, and almost glitch-free. I hope everyone else is having a similarly (and relatively) pain-free experience. Now Sumiko can soon start looking for work after a 3-month layoff - whee!
(Since we've been "approved", should my entry for 'Interview Date' be moved to 'Approved/Date'?)

Yeah, we discussed the whole EAD thing. The problem is, on top of all the additional paperwork and fees, there's no guarantee how soon she'd receive one - it may come a month before green card approval, or a week, so it's quite the gamble. She (well, we) just doesn't trust the ol' bureaucracy in all its glorious inefficiency.

Ah, thank you. Clearly I failed to browse the whole thing.
I'm curious just how big the spike in applications is relative to, say, last July, and if they hired extra help to help battle the tide of paperwork. Though we're patient, things may get tight between the time my wife's student/work visa expires (end of this month) and she (hopefully) receives her green card and is able to work again. Oh yeah, and she can't leave the country until then either, so we may have to delay visiting my new in-laws.

Hi Tajoumaru, unfortunately the USCIS has slowed down A LOT. I don't think that anyone will really be able to tell you when the check will be cashed. Many people have checks still not cashed and theirs were received around the same time as yours. Since you have confirmation that they received it, we know that they have the check, so don't start worrying yet, I'm sure we'll hear that checks are being cashed soon.
And I assume the slowdown must be due to the recent surge in volume, courtesy of applicants avoiding the egregious fee hikes.
And please, could we be added to the spreadsheet? I updated the spreadsheet in an earlier post but it didn't stay.

So you put 'other' and...? Were you a U.S. citizen petitioning for a non-citizen?

I'm a U.S. Citizen filling out the G-325A form, sponsoring my wife for a change of status from F1 visa to permanent resident. My question is, under the "This form is submitted in connection with an application for:", what should I put? I checked "other" and wrote "Petition for wife's I-130". Is that okay? This is an absurdly confusing question I've discovered.
Secondly, within the thick black box at the bottom of the G-325A form ("Applicant:"), I put my name, and under (Alien Registration Number) I put "N/A". That's correct, isn't it?
Thirdly, under my mother's name, should I put her married name and then her maiden name in parentheses like: Smith (Jones), or just her maiden name and nothing else?

• I am a U.S. citizen; my fiancée is a Japanese citizen and has been living in the U.S. since March 2003 on an F1 (Student) Visa.
• She completed her degree at the end of 2006 summer term and her Visa expires at the end of this August (2007).
• We've been planning on marrying this summer, perhaps early July.
• We both have full-time jobs, working as contractors.
• We have a substantial "nest egg" saved.
• She has had a very difficult time finding a full-time, permanent position because of the employer-based Visa sponsorship issue (i.e., few companies seem willing to sponsor these days, for whatever reason).
• We have been together for 3+ years and have several "bona fides" that can attest to the legitimacy of our relationship.
• We have no children.
• We basically live together but do not share a lease contract (we each have our own place).
• We do not have a joint banking account but would open one if necessary.
So it seems we're to go the AoS route to get her permanent residence status. We haven't been able to find specific info about adjusting her status from F1 to permanent resident, and we're not sure if we need to send in any paperwork before we tie the knot. We're also unsure if we need to do an I-130--the info page here lists forms G-325a, I-864, I-485, in that order. Our plan was to marry, then send all the paperwork in shortly thereafter.

I've reviewed TONS of materials, including here and elsewhere, but it seems the more I read the more choices there are, and thus the increasing confusion. Is this a typical K1, or K3 Visa situation? If so, do we start with I-129F form, or I-130? She's been living in the same state for 4+ years and has no intention of going back to Japan unless there's no choice in the matter. We really don't want to bother with an immigration lawyer, so I came here for some help.

Yeah, our comprehensive and chronologically arranged photo array was undoubtedly a bonus - as was Sumiko's prior refusal to join the Communist party.
We only had two wedding photos, though family members and friends were well represented in other pics. And, our assortment of wedding cards was probably a boon.
