Starting to get a little worried now. Only 7 people remaining who filed with CSC and haven't yet received approval.
I wouldn't be worried much except that our AOS process took longer than most. From the time we had our interview until approval was ~3 months, presumably because it took that long to complete the background check (or at least, that's what we were told). I'm concerned that the background check may hold us up again...

Quick update: our name check apparently finished (3+ months after interview), as we got the card production email on Dec 20th. Finally!

Hello all.
We just finished our interview this morning. The good news is that the interview was pretty easy -- mostly he asked us to confirm basic info from our application like date of birth, parents' names, date & place of marriage, etc. Nothing difficult or contentious at all.
The bad news is that our FBI name check hasn't been completed. We've read some threads here about problems with the name check, so we're a little worried. The officer confirmed that it's basically an indeterminate amount of time -- it could be 2 weeks, 2 months, or a year before it's complete.

So after several false starts, it's finally taken care of. Now all that's left is the AOS interview...

We received the status update the same day that card production was ordered (8/17). The update from the day before was stating that they had received our response to the RFE. I guess they just saw that we signed the document this time, and so they approved us the next day.

Approval notice on AP recieved today by mail.
I wonder why they gave me 2 of them. And none of them is copies.
Is there a special reason for this?

We received an RFE for the EAD last week. We sent it in certified USPS the next day, and now it appears as if the USPS might have lost our mail. It's been a week and still hasn't been delivered.
If you're keeping count, this is the 4th thing that the USPS had a problem either delivering to us or from us.
We had the same experience. It took them 18 days to recieve our mail. And it's only a few miles from were we live. We contacted USPS and was told it could take up to 30 days.
First, congrats on your AP! It was big news for us as well, as we're planning on having another marriage ceremony overseas in a few months.
Well, I threw my weight around with USPS and it seems to have helped. I called USPS on Sunday and was told that if a certified letter hasn't been received after 5 mailing days, you can start an inquiry into what happened to it. The person said that I needed to do it during the week, however, because the computers that process those inquiries are down during the weekend... or something to that effect.
So I called back yesterday morning and told USPS I wanted to start a formal inquiry into my apparently lost mail. I gave them my info and tracking # for the package and was told they'd call me back within a day to let me know what they've found.
As of yesterday morning, the status of the letter was "Accepted" at my local post office. Surprise, surprise, the letter was delivered to USCIS yesterday evening. I'm not sure if it was coincidental, but there's probably some chance that it was sitting on the floor of some post office and they didn't find it until I asked them to start looking for it.
Short version: If you send something certified and it's not delivered within 5 mailing days, call the USPS and ask to start an inquiry on it! I hope this helps someone!

Hello all. We have a question and we're hoping someone might know...
Is it absolutely necessary to have a new social security card (with new married last name) when you go in for your AOS interview?
My wife was here as a student originally, and her I-20 expired very shortly after we were married. Well, she just went to the local social security office to get a new SS card (with her new last name), but they wouldn't give her one because they said her I-20 is expired, and so she doesn't have any documentation indicating that she's allowed here in the US permanently. The person wouldn't accept the explanation that our AOS is in process.
If her previous last name on the SS card is fine, then we won't worry. But if anyone has any information to the contrary, it would be great to hear it now.

Just out of curiosity; what was the RFE for preceisely? Did you use tax transcipts or just photocopies of your returns? Was the RFE for W-2s and/or 1099s?
We just used photocopies of our returns. The RFE was pretty vague. I don't have the document in front of me right now, but I remember it did say something about W-2's and/or 1099's, or that we filed for an extension.
Of course, I'm as sure as I could possibly be that we had already submitted everything we possibly could... But at least it seems fixed now.

Still a long way off, but that's fine since it looks like it will take us some time to gather the documents we need to bring.

Just wanted to update our situation since I haven't posted in a bit...
A couple weeks ago, we received an RFE for our AOS. We mailed the necessary info back on 6/28. Today the online info has been updated for AOS indicating that they received what we sent and are processing it again.
Still no touches on anything else since 6/20...

Well, I was wondering IF anyone had called USCIS to find out, and then if USCIS was willing to tell exactly what was missing.
I'm asking because we're in a joint sponsor situation, and I'm not sure whether USCIS would be willing to talk to me about the joint sponsor's tax information (it may be a privacy issue). I'm wondering if I will need to coordinate a 3-way phone call with myself, the joint sponsor, and USCIS.
On the other hand, if someone tells me that they had a similar situation, called USCIS, and USCIS couldn't give them precise information, then I won't bother calling USCIS (or setting up the 3-way call) at all!
Any help?

Hello all.
We've applied for AOS, and just received an RFE for more information about our taxes. They want us to send in all W-2's, 1099's, etc.
We think we already sent in everything that we have, so we're not sure what we could be missing.
For anyone who has been in this situation before: did you try calling USCIS to ask them what you forgot to provide? If so, were they able to tell you that information, or did they not know?

Hey all.
I just wanted to update my situation from a couple pages ago, in the hopes that someone in a similar situation in the future can learn something. Here's a quick review:
- Filed for EAD/AOS/AP on May 18.
- Moved across the country at the end of May.
- Never received anything -- not even notice of receipt (I-797C) for any of the above applications, even though they were sent out on May 24th. The reason is that the USPS didn't forward our USCIS mail to us, for some reason.
- On June 14, the online case system said that notices were returned as undeliverable to USCIS for all three applications.
- Besides the I-797C's, we were concerned that we wouldn't get the biometrics appointment information, and we'd miss our appointment.
- I called USCIS on Thursday last week, but they said they couldn't see what notices, exactly, were sent to us. They said all we could do is have the notices re-sent, but it could take up to 30 days to receive them. We knew we would miss the biometrics appointment by then!
Finally, we set up an appointment with our local office through Infopass for today. We explained everything to the immigration officer, and at first she told us the same thing: on her computer, she could only see notices were returned on the 14th, but not any information about the notices themselves. After a few more minutes, she told us that there was "another computer system" there where she could try to find more information about our cases. She said that only certain employees there had the ability to access the system.
After a few more minutes, she returned and had a printout with information about every notice they have mailed to us, including the date when it was sent. The biometrics appointment info was indeed sent at the end of May. Additionally, an RFE was sent out on the 8th -- which we still haven't received.
In the end, she because it's been awhile since the biometrics appt info was sent, she set us up for an appointment at the local ASC office today! She also said that she'll try to find out info about the RFE and she'd call us about it later this week. She said RFE's usually want the info within 30 days, so we hope she gets that info right away.
But the moral of the story is: schedule an appointment through Infopass if you get stonewalled anywhere, especially by the customer service number. Your local immigration officer can do more!
