We finally got the Fav. Recommendation! I'm sharing the time line here.
Thanks to all of you, this blog has been super helpful. Please don't panic, if I learn something by looking at the different cases and time lines is that they are somehow unique...
I have no idea how or when will we get the receipt notice to track the USCIS part...
I'll continue sharing my updates with you!
Best!

They are requested in either case. You might want to check the previous posts for answers to such questions.
I think either case. There cases, like mine, in which the money came from my country but it's administered by a US entity...

Did you also have US government funding?
Mmm not directly, it’s more a grey area. The funds were from my country though...

Hi waiverTR
As I mentioned earlier, I got funding from US government. So mine will be automatically sent to sponsor view. But I was surprised it didn’t show up in the timeline when they asked for it.
Interesting... mine has two steps, "Sponsor views -requested" and "Sponsor views- sent"... you never had those steps showing on yours?

Hi All,
I have applied for J1 waiver on the basis of NOC. After 4 months of wait I received the favorable recommendation on Feb 10th and received hardcopy of FR from DOS on Feb 14th. But I am still waiting for I-797C notice of action from USCIS. Its already 2 weeks which does not look normal depending from the posted timelines here. Do any of you facing/ faced the same issue? What should be next course of action from my side?
Thanks
Hi,
Would you mind sharing your timeline of the DOS? My case is still pending... almost 3 months now..
thanks!!

Omg!!! This is terrible, I thought it was 12 to 16 weeks the whole process! A friend of mine did the same process. My embassy is Colombia, and she got the waiver in exactly 4 months.
Thanks for your reply.
how often do you guys check the DOS status?

My final timeline:
2019/09/12 -- Submitted online application
2019/09/12 -- Sent e-mail to Brazilian embassy requesting NOS
2019/09/13 -- Mailed documents (SOR, passport, DS-2019, DS-3035, $120 check, two self-addressed envelopes) to DOS via UPS in São Paulo
2019/09/16 -- Package arrived at DOS (verified via UPS tracking)
2019/09/18 -- $120 Check was cashed (appeared as "Dos Waiver Fees Payment" in the bank statement)
2019/09/18 -- Brazilian embassy sent NOS to DOS
2019/10/02 -- Documents appeared as received at DOS
2019/10/07 -- NOS appeared as received at DOS
2019/12/18 -- Received e-mail from DOS saying my application was in administrative review
2019/12/19 -- Favorable recommendation sent by DOS
2019/12/31 -- Received DOS letter at home in Brazil (they used one of the self-addressed envelopes)
2020/01/08 -- USCIS posted I-797C (receipt notice)
2020/01/17 -- USCIS posted I-797B (approval notice)
2020/01/24 -- Received letters from USCIS (both receipt and approval) at home in Brazil
It took 3 weeks for the documents and application to appear in the DOS website, 8 weeks for me to get the favorable recommendation, and 5 weeks for me to get all documents at home -- around four months total. Some tips:
- Regular check works if you have a US account;
- You can purchase self-addressed envelopes at UPS; in the end only one was used, but that might be specific for Brazil; USCIS uses their own postage;
- Although you can, I never called USCIS -- I just waited for the I-797;
- In the end you are going to get the letter from DOS (which they also send to USCIS), I-797C (receipt), and I-797B (approval); and
- Start soon... I wish I knew I could request the waiver while I was in the US; anyways, everything worked in the end.
Please feel free to ask questions, especially if you are from Brazil -- I can provide more specifics about how to prepare your petition, documentation, etc.

Hi!
I've currently applied for the waiver based on a NOS from my home country. This is my timeline to date:
- Request for Sponsor Views Sent December, 04 2019
- Sponsor Views Requested December, 03 2019
- No Objection Statement Received October, 31 2019
- Fee, Form DS-3035, Form DS-2019, Passport Data Page , Statement Of Reason, Other Received September, 03 2019
I was wondering if anyone has a similar timeline. And on the other hand if anyone has any advice about whether it is necessary to contact the sponsor to speed up the process. My J1 (a short stay) was partly funded by the department of state (>$1000)
Thank you.
Hello,
I'm currently waiting... the DOS received the NOS on Dec. 10, but they haven't requested the sponsors views yet... now that I see your case, I can see that there was also a gap between the date that they received the NOS and the Request of views... not sure why it takes them so long though..
The rest of my documents were received on Nov. 25th.
Please keep us posted!
Best of luck!!

I have no idea why there are so many discrepancies in the timelines.... In my case it took one month to show the docs received in the system, and it is still pending.
I check the status everyday... maybe I should just relax and don't check that often.. :S

Hi, @LauCC Thank you! My timeline started on July 18th when I saw they received my documents. Then, on October 17th I saw the NOS from my Embassy in the system. On Dec. 20th the FR showed up as sent. I received a letter from DOS in which they Grant my waiver. It was addressed to USCIS, they sent a copy to my Embassy as well. But since then, I haven't received anything else. I called USCIS but I need the case number, and I don't have it. I am worried about it. So, in total there has been almost 6 months.
Oh I see... well I have no news, I’ll see how it goes. Thanks!

@LauCC Hi, LauCC, My FR showed today in the system!!! Finally, after being waiting for 2 months. I am soooo happy!!.
The delay seems to be in general, 2 of my friends sent the documents a month ago and there is nothing in their systems. Hopefully soon. All of us in the same situation, but trusting, everything will be in place soon. Be patient.... I was almost becoming crazy thinking about the FR
Good luck and hang in there with USCIS times!
Hi! Congrats on your FR!! so your timeline was 2 months total for the DOS?? that's great... hope mine goes like that... still no news.. since Dec 10th...

Now, the NOS is showing as received on Dec 10th.

Sharing my timeline to see if anyone else is currently facing similar wait time. My case number is 16415XX
October 27, 2019: J-1 waiver application submitted online, case number geneated.
October 31, 2019: Application packet (printed application, fees money order, supporting documents) sent
November 3, 2019: Application packet received (USPS tracking confirmed)
November 5, 2019: Fees money order cashed (was a USPS money order, submitted a "6401 Inquiry" money order enquiry at my local post office, received a copy of the cashed money order a week later).
November 19, 2019: NOC sent to US DoS (Confirmed by email from Indian Embassy in Washington)
December 10, 2019...: No information regarding my case in DoS's online system.
Department of State Advisory Opinion Finding:
Item Action Date
Currently, there is no information regarding the status of your case. If you would like additional information, please contact Public Inquiries at 212ewaiver@state.gov I sent an email with all required information to the email address on December 3, 2019, but have not received any response yet.
Does this timeline seem normal? I would at least expect to see that my documents (except the NOC) received since they were delivered over a month ago. Anyone else in similar situation with no updates at all for over a month?
I am getting nervous especially because one of my colleague (same country of origin, employer, visa category etc.) submitted her application on October 4, was showed received online on October 14, NOC received on October 25, favorable recommendation sent on November 16, USCIS final approval received by mail on December 4. With exactly the same case, how does one case get all cleared in 2 months, and another not even marked received for almost 2 months?
If anything, I hope someone else with a similar timeline finds this message reassuring that such delays are normal!!!

I'm also in a similar situation. All my documents as well as the NOS were sent to DOS on 19th November, and today (5th December) my status got updated for the first time on the DOS webpage. Although it shows that the DS3035, DS2019, passport bio page, statement of reason and the fee have been received, there is no mention of the NOS from the embassy. I'd like to know if many of the applicants are observing this incomplete status update from the DOS.
Has the status page for your application been updated to reflect the receipt of NOS yet?
No... it hasn’t been updated... I check the status every day... I hope this is the “normal” process 😏
