  1. My wife came here on K-1 Feb 08, married in April 08, filed AOS May 08.....Papers have been in limbo since. Finally touched 12/21/08 and paperwork is at our local processing center. We did not apply for her SSN because we received some bad infomration and were under the impression we had to wait. My question is, since she deos not have her SSN, should I apply for a ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) for her to claim her on my taxws, or wait for the paperwork to clear before April 15 ( I hope) and apply for the SSN>

  2. well it seems i forgot to put copies of my W2s with my wifes AOS and that was what my RFE was for. so far i can only find 2007 i still need 2 more years. if i go to my local IRS office can they get me copies? will there be a chage for them? i saw irs.gov i can order them but its $39.00 for each year. kinda pricy!

Go with the tax transcripts - as mentioned. They're free and will certainly do the job for your RFE.

I received an RFE for the same thing. I sent in 3 years of TAX TRANSCRIPTS and they still wanted W-2's. My AOS papers were filed in July and they were just sent to California processing today.

  3. My future wife is here on her K-1 visa and we plan on getting married on April 21, 2008. We want to take a trip to Colombia after we are married and file for AOS, which should be on April 28. We are planning an August vacation.

I know I have to file the I-131 Application for travel document form for her. Do I need to file a seperate I-131 for my 5 year old step-daughter that is here on the K-1 visa with her mother? I did not see any space on the I-131 that is used to add a dependent.

    Thanks.....bundy

  4. Can someone give me the rundown on when I apply for the social security numbers for my novia and daughter? Do we need to be married first and have already filed the AOS? Do I have to file for work authorization with the AOS or after in order to get the social security number? What if she is not going to work? I assume we do it at the local social security office. Do I need to make an appointment?

  5. Congratulations Bundy. That is great news. :)

Was Paola able to determine why the 5 women before her were denied?

    Thanks everyone.

She said one of the women did not have all the required information in her packet, so the visa was denied and she was immediatley scheduled another interview date for mid February. The other four she was not sure of and was afraid to ask.

  6. Hello everyone! Haven't posted in a while. Great to see so many approvals! Paola's interview is next Wednesday and she flys out Sunday for Bogota. Medical on Monday, shopping on Tuesday, cita on Wednesday! She went yesterday to buy a jacket for herself and daughter because living in Cali, they never really needed one. She is so nervous about the interview. We have waited so long for this moment and we just want the visa so bad! Congratulations on all who received their visas and good luck in all your future endeavors! Hopefully I will have some good news to post next week!!!! :innocent:

    :dance::dance:APPROVED!!! :dance::dance:

Today was our interview and everything went great! Paola arrived at 5:30 this morning and was finished around 11:30. Get this..........the interviewing officer (a lady) did not ask any questions and did not ask to see any infomration Paola brought with her (pictures, emails, letters, etc). Paola said all she did was look over her packet, checked to make sure she had everything, and said your approved! YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! Very easy and I expected it to be much harder, but it was pretty quick and painless. Hope to have Paola here Feb 1 and POE will be Miami!

On a sad note, Paola told me that 5 women before her were denied! She was very nervous when she went to the window because of all the denials that were being handed out. She was also nervous that I didn't attend the interview because everyone else brought their novio or husband. She was the only female there without her significant other. So, it seems that it is not necessary for the petitioner to attend the visa interview and having them there has not bearing on the outcome.

Thanks to all that helped me get thru the rough times, those that shared valuable information, and those that kept me in check! I owe a ton to Visa Journey and it's valuable members! Godspeed on your journey!

  8. We are not until the 18th of January, we are very well prepared, yet I find myself going to sleep at night wondering what I am forgetting???? Sandy and I are arriving in Bogota on Sunday the 13th, lab and medical on Monday the 14th (Dr Gonzalez). Sandy's 18 month old daughter is not required to have lab work, yet has to have a medical exam (of course additional fee). Dr Gonzalez informed Sandy she could have her vaccinations done at the Red Cross in Barranquilla prior to arriving in Bogota no problem.

In reading Scott's note after his interview (thank you again Scott!) He stated that the bank required the DS-156 in spanish? This is not what the Embassy told me on Wednesday when I called? My forms have all been completed in english including the N/A in all fields not applicable. I guess I will make an additional copy in Spanish, no problem.

I do not speak alot of spanish, and Sandy speaks little English, is this a potential problem in the interview? We have loads of photo's together, from my trips to Colombia, including the Baptism of her daughter Barranquilla, vacations together in Cartagena, Isles Rosario and Santa Marta. Many e-mails in spanish as I have translation software on my laptop. Phone records, money tranfer reciepts etc.

So in short, I am hoping that there is no major red flag here due to the language barrier that we are working rapidly on to improve!

I do not think the language will be a problem. My novia and I speak Spanglish. We speak to each other in a huge mash of the two languages, me focusing on Spanish, her English. We communicate very well together. I have met many people that speak NO SPanish and their spouse speaks NO English. They got their visa ok. I'd try not to worry about it.

Did you alrady set your appointment with Dr. Gonzalez? We have our interview date on Jan 16 and we were told they were not making medical appointments for January yet?! Was I given bad info? Since our interview is on Wednesday, we are trying to get the medical for Monday. However, we were told to wait untill after the holidays for making the appointment. I have not booked the flight yet since we do not know when the medical is! This whole process is a domino effect! Can't book the flight without the medical, can't book the hotel without booking the flight! I'm going INSANE!!!!

    Oh yeah.............Congrats Scott

  9. Thanks for all the great places to stay! I appreciate it very much. I will see which is available and grab one. I also appreciate the posts concerning the medicals and vaccinations. Very helpful information! I will not be able to attend the interview in January so my novia and her daughter are going solo. It is so hard trying to plan everything when I am here and she is in Colombia!!!! I am pulling what little hair I have out! I can not wait for all this to be over.

Can someone answer this simple question: I received my tax transcripts for the last three years and am going to submit them with the I-134. I will also add the last three months of my paystubs and a letter from my employer. Do I still need to send my W-2's and my 1040's? I thought the tax transcripts would be ok in place of the returns and W-2's, but my novia is telling me that I need to send them. Which should I send?

    BUNDY<

I only submitted 3 years tax transcripts, 3 months of paystubs and the letter from my employer and this is brought with you to the interview with the affadavit of support and was accepted at our interview on 12/04/07 and We were approved. This is my experience and had no problems, Our interview was less than 5 minutes and we were Approved and the vice consul never even talk to me or ask me any questions other than to tell me congratulations, your wife is approved. if you have the tax transcripts for the 3 years, YOU DO NOT NEED THE W-2 OR 1040'S

    (L) Brian and Yenys (L)

Thanks for the information. I will not be able to travel to Bogota when my novia has the interview, so I want to make sure she has all her "ducks in a row". I'll just send all of the above just in case.

  13. Hello everyone. My novias petition was forwarded to Bogota 11/23 and am glad to be out of USCIS/NVC. I am going to start researching Colombia Club to see what I do now. Hopefully we can get an interview date in early January! Thanks for all the information you all have provided. It really helps!

  14. Called today and NVC has my petition as of yesterdays date. 17 days from NOA-2 email to petition being received by NVC. The lady told me that the packet should be sent out to embassy in Bogota Friday. My estimate is an interview date in January.

That's really great to hear Bundy. Congratulations!!

Thanks Thai....it's been a long road. I am so happy that my paperwork is about to be out of the "machine" known as USCIS/NVC. Hopefully in Colombia they can handle things smoother and we can get the visa quickly.

  15. anyone gathering the documents needed for packet3 ahead of time??? kinda overwhelming all the forms that need to be filled out.

I had them downloaded, filled out and in an envelope addressed to the Embassy before the Consulate ever even received our case.

That's cool! But how do you get all the forms?? I tried that and the forms are almost all expired??? I don't know what I should do to prepare ahead of time???

I'll PM you the links. :)

Hey Sienna, can you post the links here as well so I can get a jump start on the next step! I would greatly appreciate it!!!

  16. Interview went fine and WE HAVE A VISA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am thrilled but no details yet because his sis had to pass the good news online as hes in london celebrating with no way to contact!!!

    :dance::dance: WOOT!!!! CONGRATS!!!!! :dance::dance:

That's excellent!!! I can only imagine how RELIEVED you must be. What a long journey it's been, ey?

Just to give a ray of sunshine to everyone.... after the NVC gets your case, it MOVES SO FAST!!!! The NVC sent out our case to the Consulate in London on Oct. 30, they received it in London on NOVEMBER 1 AND..... sent out our Packet 3 on Nov. 1 as well!!! SUCH a welcome change from all the months spent THUMB-TWIDDLING waiting on our NOA2.

    Go May filers Go!!!!

Thats great news! At least it is moving along quickly.

Ok, since the excitement of receiving my NOA-2 has fizzled, what do I do next? Wait for the hard copy of the NOA-2 via snail mail? Then what? Please explain how to check if my papers have been sent to NVC. Once they reach NVC, will I receive a notice from them telling me when my papers are sent to the embassy in Bogota? I got the intitial process of filing for the K-1 down, now I need help for the stages leading up to the interview. Can someone break it down for me?

    Thanks a million.
