  1. Congratulations! Very excited for you! Glad to hear they let you in as well. Maybe they only stop USCs from going in if it's especially crowded that day.

As for the fee you paid, which fee was that (not the mailing fee but the first one.)

It was the Visa application fee $380 (I think) each

Congratulations Tracy .... that is Great news ..... all the best

you said you toke your son with you to the Interview … how is he ? did they ask for him to be at the interview … I thought they said kids under the age of 14 doesn’t need to attend the interview .

    Thanks

He's 13, 14 in September. I am not sure why they asked for him to be there.

They didn't ask him any direct questions, or take his prints ect.

But we were told he had to be there. So we took him.

  2. We went down for our interview today, myself my USC husband of almost 9 years and my son (his adopted son).

I was so stressed last night after reading how someone had been at the Embassy for 5 hours. We were told to leave 2 to 3 hours, and so I'd booked our train back 4 hours after our appointment time. To change our train ticket was going to cost some ridiculous amount of money too!

Also I had read USC's weren't being let in, so I was stressing about that too.

Anyway, we got up at 4.30am to catch our train down to London, we arrived at the Embassy half an hour before our time, and with no line outside the embassy all three of us were allowed right in. We were given a ticket and asked to wait for our number to be called.

An hour and a half later our ticket was called. The three of us went to our window, paid the fee. Then the woman started asking for the documents. She asked for our US address...we don't have one! We live in the UK. We had send a cover letter with our I-130 giving Dave's Aunt's address in case they NEEDED one. The woman at the desk said it wasn't there, and although we had a bag full of extra paper work "just in case" the one thing we didn't have was my address book. So PANIC number one! Thankfully she looked again and found it. Phew! Then back to the documents she asked for my son's birth certificate, long form. OK I have it. Long story but my son's biological father is not named on the birth certificate. So she halted the process again to say it HAD to have his name on. Er No it doesn't, his father has never had anything to do with him. And gave up any rights he did have when my husband adopted him!! She asked for the adoption certificate and then she went off to check it out. Eventually returning and saying that was OK. Phew - heart failure round two over!!

There were a couple of hiccups with the affidavit of support form, but we had lots of back up paper work which served it's purpose well. She told us to take a seat and we'd be called back for another interview. Time was getting on, and I asked how long she thought that would take, "Within the hour". Looking at my watch I realised that we would be pushing it for time if we had to wait an hour and then the interview took a long time.

About 15 minutes later we were called back for our interview. A really nice woman said she had some questions about my son and his father, and that was fine we could answer all of them. She said we'd filed the wrong form for him, as he's adopted by the USC and we had to have another form. Thankfully we hadn't been sure which one we needed so Dave had completed both. Phew!! I was expecting the "Where did you meet?" type questions but we got none, maybe being married 9 years means we don't have to answer stuff like that I don't know. She asked when we hoped to go over and I think that was about it. She told us we were approved and that we could go and pay for the mailing fee's - which by the way have gone up!!

That done we had time for a quick bite to eat before we got our train back. Now we just have to wait for our Visa's to arrive.

  3. Hey guls n guyz

It's a nightmare to contact US embassy london. Calling that premier number gets u no answer to any question about visa case. All they do is give you a bloody ref. number and londonconsular email address to query.

Have you mailed on this address recently?

How long did it take to get a response from them?

I emailed last Monday for correction of my name on my CR-1 visa, and still no answer besides telling them that I intend to leave the UK permanently very soon.

I emailed them only a couple of weeks ago. I had to put that ref number in subject. I got an email later that day saying it had been received and that they would reply within 5 days, then next day my email was answered.

  4. I was actually fine about it until I starting looking on here to see how everyone elses went and now I am pooping my pants!

My husband is coming with us, and I've read that USC have been turned away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fingers crossed all will go ok!

  5. The other thread got me wondering - are there any folks immigrating to the US from the UK and NOT interested in pursuing US citizenship? Simon is not interested, at least for now (my thought, not his, he has no intention at this point).

Just wondering if not, why not? I certainly don't have any problem with someone not becoming a US citizen, that is an extremely personal decision. Only curious as to why someone would make the choice one way or the other.

ME! I am hopefully going to get my Visa soon and move to the State with my Husband and children and I have NO interest in becoming American. I am Bristish and want to stay that way. If I could have dual nationality like my children then I'd be happy to do that, but I don't want to give up my nationality

  6. Good deal! It's another "to do" to tick off the list!

EDIT: Tracy, I'd like to add you to the UK interview list - you can join us in the "waiting for a date" group. (Sounds lonely, doesn't it? :P ) Just to clarify - you are filing K3, correct?

Sure that's fine by me. And yes it sounds loney. K3 er yes I think so!! That sounds about right!! lol

    *whispers* You're DCF, not K-3. ;)

LOL what would I do without you

Good luck, girl! I know how much you are looking forward to being USA bound! You might even make your ideal date! :luv:

That would be so cool if we could.

But on the down side, the interest rates have gone up and the estate agent said they are expecting the market to slow right down - not good for us!!

Got my fingers crossed that you're not affected.

  8. ..as I'll probably be on here a lot seaching advice from you all.

I am Tracy, Brtitish Mum of 3 married to American Dave.

We've been married almost 9 years, and currently live in the UK.

We've decided it's time for a change and we were hoping to be in the States by August,

doesn't look like that will happen as the VISA's seem to take much longer than we thought!!

Nice to meet you all and I hope to chat with you all soon :goofy:

  9. I am married to Dave (who's american) we've been married 9 years, and live in the UK, We have 3 children.

We decided we wanted to head back to the states, and hoped we could be there in August, for the kids going to school September. We have JUST filed the I-130 in London.

And she is one of my bestest buddies (even though I neglect her terribly!)... :luv:

You do!! You left the country without me. And without visiting me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I still love u

  10. I am married to Dave (who's american) we've been married 9 years, and live in the UK, We have 3 children.

We decided we wanted to head back to the states, and hoped we could be there in August, for the kids going to school September. We have JUST filed the I-130 in London.

    thanks :)

So you are doing a process known as Direct Consular Filing; read the Guide from "OK, Ready To File" on.

You can look for the required documents in the Embassy Info link in the blue bar, top of the page.

You can read other London expereinces in this forum, and the IR/CR forum here--the main difference is that everything that those folk submit to the 'NVC', you will submit directly to the Consulate at your interview.

The kids need to get their US passports squared away (and UK) if you haven't done so yet.

Dave will want to start looking at the Affidavit of Support I-864 and getting his tax return docs and financial info ready.

Typical cases are concluded in about 6 months (I-130--->visa)--there is no set timeline.

Thanks this is really helpful. Two of the children are dual nationality and have there passport already. The eldest is my son, Dave's adopted son, so we've been told once he's on US land he can have dual, but we have filed I-130 for him too
