Letter is a good idea, but if you haven't given up: I managed to receive a "no credit report" confirmation by calling TransUnion. The first person i talked to would/could not help me out without a SSN. I explained the situation for 5-10 min and then asked if I could talk to a supervisor. This supervisor immediately helped and had no issue with sending a confirmation letter after making sure, that they did not have anything on file.

Call 833-395-6938 and dial 0 and be prepared to wait a while!

    Good luck.

Hey! I did this today and it worked for me! I called twice (the first time the operator did not understand/would not help but the second time I called I got an operator who was able to do this! I just explained the visa situation and that my husband has no bank account, no SSN, and has only been here for a month and that I just needed a paper that said nothing shows up when TransUnion searches his name and address. The man did a quick search, said nothing appeared and he would send me a letter stating that and it would arrive in the next 5-7 business days. Hopefully it arrives soon!! Thanks so much for the advice!

Honestly I am also looking for an answer to this question Samantha! The form seems to ask if you have insurance and if not whether you intend to “sign up soon”, I was just going to check that box and deal with the health insurance as the next step once all this was applied for. I don’t leave the house (partly bc of Covid, partly because I don’t drive and have no reason to) and I do almost nothing that would put me at risk of injury (besides cooking and showering I guess) so I have just been maybe too cavalier about getting insurance, knowing it is going to be complicated and very difficult. We spoke to Kevin’s health insurance provider for advice but it wasn’t clear.

Yes I am really confused as well! I will continue calling health insurance providers and seeing if we can sign up, but I dont think they will allow him to enroll until he has a green card. I guess I will attach a letter explaining this whole situation and hope they are understanding.

  3. Hi, I dont have the answer to your question but I am having the same issue. Also, what are you doing for health insurance for the I944? We have tried signing my now husband up for private insurance but all insurance agents tell us he has to wait until he gets his green card to sign up...We dont know how to get him health insurance so that we can put it on the I944. If you have any advice that would be really appreciated, thanks!

  4. My fiance is in the US on a K1 visa. We called our local SSA office today to ask if it is possible at all to apply for his SSN before his I94 expires. They seemed really confused about the question. After about 30 minutes on hold they finally said we should just let the I94 expire and then apply for an SSN the same time we apply for his AOS and EAD. Is this accurate and our best way to proceed? Thank you for the help!

Thanks for the advice, it does help to put our minds at rest a little. We did not know that the health insurance part had been blocked for the time being. And we do absolutely plan on using a joint sponsor. It was just the worry of them putting all those negatives together that we were worried might lead to them being more inclined to refusing us

I didnt know that the health insurance part had been blocked for the time being either? I am the petitioner and I have Medicaid as well. We have an interview scheduled at the embassy for December 23 and so far in all the information they have sent they have not requested proof of insurance for either the beneficiary or petitioner. I assume that means for the time being we wont have to fix it until we do Adjustment of Status in the US. Is that your understanding too?

  6. Thanks for your reply!

Those are good things to consider. I think it is unlikely that he would become a public charge. We are both college educated, both young and have many years of work ahead of us, both have over 30000 in savings and assets, and I am likely to get a job very quickly, its just that the hiring openings for teachers comes about a month after his interview will probably be.

How is it possible to show that the co sponsor is likely to use those assets for the beneficiary? Like a letter from the co sponsor stating how they plan to support the beneficiary?

    Thanks!

  7. Hello!

Petitioner speaking. My British fiance and I will be interviewing at the Seoul, Korea embassy where we both currently live and work legally. Question about the co-sponsor for the K1-visa.

Because my fiance and I have been teaching in Seoul, South Korea, I will probably not have a job lined up by the time we move back to America with the K1 visa. Obviously I will be applying for jobs, but I am a certified teacher and school jobs hire between March-June where I am from and its looking like our K1 interview will probably be in January or February 2020. Because of this, we will be using my aunt as a co-sponsor.

My aunt (co sponsor) has no dependents and lives alone. She is 58 years old and has recently quit her job to take care of some aging family members. While she is unemployed, she does have hundreds of thousands of dollars in assets including savings, bank account, and stocks. I also currently make above the minimum requirement, but obviously my job will end here in Korea when we move to America. Will my aunt be an adequate co sponsor for the interview with all of her assets even though she is currently unemployed?

Furthermore, we plan to live with my grandmother for a while to help take care of her before we get our own apartment. i have been using my grandmothers residence for years as my permanent address in America and my license and mailing address are linked to that. My aunt (co sponsor) lives in another apartment but in the same city, is that okay? Should I try to arrange our own apartment before we move back? That would be quite the hassle but is possible.

The other option is to use my cousin as a co sponsor. However, my cousin is my age (25), doesn't have near as much money or assets as my aunt, doesn't live in the same state as we will, but does have a current job and income of about $45,000 annually.

Any thoughts or advice about which route we should go (aunt or cousin as co sponsor) would be highly appreciated, thanks!
